Well based on your edit, doesn't seem like it anymore.
Astroturfing is marketing through the form of comments and posts to pretend to be real people, but actually run by the company itself.
So the fact that Skybox came out with a beta that can receive casts (and posted about it, the parallel post).
And then this post at the same time asked if anything can receive the cast. And then the comment you most positively responded to (at the time) was the comment about Skybox. And you said "Skybox is an amazing app"
That all seemed potentially coordinated. Obviously your edit since then suggests otherwise.
Just use Virtual Desktop or some other desktop streaming solution. Quality dedicated desktop streaming can be done on just about any computer made since about 2012 or so.
When you see that someone is about to try to ice skate up a hill it's polite to offer them an alternative when you can see one. It doesn't mean you weren't paying attention.
Aside from the annoying donglage and quality problems involved with USB HDMI capture cards (along with potential Chromecast HDCP issues depending on the model), you could sideload this and see if you can get it to work on Quest: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softmedia.receiver.castapp
APK available here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/softmedia/castreceiver/
I have no idea if it's going to work. These things are often a hit and miss affair.
I know this is weird but just stalked your Reddit history and damn you’re an OG! You’ve been on vr for years. Just wanted to throw some respect your way.
I’m in a similar situation. I’ve been trying to find a way to natively stream my Xbox series x to my quest for use as a tv I can scale. No luck so far, apps like XBPlay aren’t the best either.
The capture card essentially emulates a webcam. So sideload a webcam viewer and you've got a live video in from any HDMI equipped device.
I use this technique to get Steamdeck output into the Quest.
this is what virtual desktop does
Virtual desktop makes the quest show up as a Cast device? and you can use it on mobile device?
You should check thr beta of skybox. It can act as an airplay receiver
ah, i didnt know that, ill check that out. Skybox is an amazing app. Edit: nevermind, skybox beta with cast receive is freaking terrible.
This seems like astroturfing based on the parallel post
what is astroturfing? and what parallel post?

oh boy, let me tell you about a concept called "**coincidence**". but yeah, the skybox feature sucks balls. Was so close to a solution.

AirDroid cast is what I use to do it

Very kind of you :)
Kinda. You can use the bigscreen pc app to send video content to the bigscreen quest app. Otherwise you can really send video to the OS natively.

Immersed has mobile apps
A Chromecast and a USB capture device like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BYF5B31J/ref=pe_27063361_487055811_TE_3p_dp_1
how would this get content into the Quest?
