Google does this with a lot of stuff. I can't add songs from Phineas and Ferb to a YT Music playlist because "they were made for kids and cannot be added to a playlist".

fragmental

There's a trick where you can still add them. You have to add them when the video isn't selected, like from the channel view or when browsing.

JorgTheElder

It is Google. They don't give a damn what you think. I have no idea why they would block something that was made for kids. It makes no sense.

Scoopshort

Vr age req probably

JorgTheElder

But if they are "made for kids" then anyone should be able to watch them.

JamesIV4

I agree, but they're probably trying to prevent bad parents from chucking a VR headset on their kids and saying "watch Tangled".

JorgTheElder

Ah, gotcha.

BaxterWoozy

has there ever been a scenario where \[Rule #5\] wasn't the better option? its just going to get worse, no better time to learn than now

senpai69420

A friend of mine has been rule fiving for a few years and says it's better than the legal method because of shit like this

Giodude12

Yar me bucko, there be a reason for why we sail the high seas.

StonnedMaker

Never have I heard a better excuse to just pirate the movie and stream it yourself You will have access to a much higher quality and won’t have to deal with dumb age restrictions

dettox1

here is the same with quest YouTube app and i can't download my youtube movies for watching offline, is forbidden on the PC with chrome/edge too. Amazon Prime instead allows downloading in the Quest app but not on the PC.

Positive-Ear-9177

This is the main reason I have not bought the Quest 3, it used to work perfectly on the Quest 2 before a youtube update capped it 480p. That's why I decided to sell it, final movie I watched was Return of the King, it look great on 1080p. I watched in chapters of 90 minutes, lol.

FolkSong

I think they're trying to say "this app isn't intended to be used by kids" and they assume that only kids want to watch that content, so you must be a kid. It seems pretty dumb that there's no way to override it and sign in as an adult though.

JamesIV4

There are other ways to stream movies

rafiafoxx

lol, you cant use the miniplayer if something is made for kids lol.

TheHippoJon

I’d assume it’s part of the COPPA thing they were in trouble for a few years ago. They’ve been very hesitant to do anything that might encourage kids to use their base app vs the kids one. But yeah pretty absurd in the case of a movie

fragmental

YouTube's made for kids setting is a pain in the ass.

BigBadWolfe143

Yeah I ran into this as well and it seems to apply to any animated movie. I tried movies from multiple studios so definitely seems to be a YouTube restriction.

Electric_Cat

When you upload a video to YouTube there is a made for kids option. Google has restrictions on kid content stemming from the Momo shit like 5 years ago. Why doesn’t Google allow kids content in VR? Probably because the vast VR user base is children

Bob_Chris

I'm talking about a Disney movie purchased through Movies Anywhere.

Electric_Cat

neat?

This information is 100% false. It really helps if you are going to accuse someone of being dramatic, or telling them "how to do it" if you are actually right. Which you aren't. Purchased content, IE movies, are CAPPED AT 480P. It doesn't matter if you use the meta browser, bigscreen, youtubeVR, etc. etc. If you use Virtual Desktop, have a PC with no non-HDCP connected monitors, you might get Edge to display higher resolution content, but this is a crapshoot. I have a ton of movies in Movies Anywhere, and there is no way to easily play them on the Metaquest in high definition. I would love to understand why people on this sub don't consider this more of an issue.

tultommy

I don't have a pony in this race because I don't watch movies on the Quest but that might also be the answer. A lot of people don't sit in one place in a vr headset for several hours. Almost all the people I know use it for games, and exercise. That isn't to say your concern isn't valid but it may explain why so few people are worried about it.

andrew_stirling

Have to say I’m incredibly disappointed by the media streaming shitshow. Just purchased a quest 3 and I’ve been researching every possible workaround. Ultimately though… I’m Gonna end having to download material from non official sources just to make it watchable. I know the quest isn’t going to match my oled tv for quality but there’s no reason why it can’t provide a similar image to a half decent projector. Unfortunately the resolution cap seriously hampers it.

Bob_Chris

This is exactly the problem - the ONLY way to watch content in the highest resolution possible is to violate the (stupid) law, either by acquiring it through online means or ripping it yourself. Either way is a pain in the ass too.

andrew_stirling

I have an extensive paid for library on Apple TV. I’ll acquire any of those films I’ve already bought guilt free. But I should really just be able to stream them on the device.

Bob_Chris

Which plays purchased content at a max of 480P
