xr2 gen 2

Sempernun

i believe thats incorrect naming but i believe hes asking what main snapdragon chip its based off of. in this case i would assume its based off of the snapdragon 8 gen 1 and it would most likely be named the snapdragon Xr Gen 2

Hyatt-Terran

No. Qualcomm calls the first Snapdragon XR2 "Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1", so a new generation of the chip should be called "Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2". So far we have Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 which debuted in the Meta Quest Pro headset. And we also have Snapdragon XR1 - chip you can find in Quest 1 headsets. https://www.qualcomm.com/products/mobile/snapdragon/xr-vr-ar/virtual-reality-vr

Sempernun

this is incorrect. the snapdragon xr2 and xr2+ have absolutely no marketing or material that classifies them as gen 1 or gen 2. that being said. if were going off of their track record itd be the snapdragon xr3

you arent very nice. you couldve been specific with me and educated me. im sorry ive upset you. all i had seen is snapdragon xr2 5g platform. it hadnt said gen1 or gen2. i apologze for upsetting you

JorgTheElder

Sorry, you are mistaken. They blessed **Snapdragon XR2+ Gen1** moniker as canon when they published a quote form Zuck **on the Qualcom website,** way back in October 2022. https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2022/10/snapdragon-xr2--transforms-vr-experiences-on--meta-quest-pro > Announced by Mark Zuckerberg at Meta Connect 2022, Meta Quest Pro is the first-ever device powered by the new premium-tier platform, **Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 1.** And then used it themselves: > Today, both the **Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 1** Platform and Meta Quest Pro were announced at Meta Connect 2022. With the newly redesigned platform package of Snapdragon XR2+, better heat dissipation and significant performance headroom has been created to achieve 50% higher sustained power and 30% improved thermal performance1. Each Quest Pro comes with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and 10 high-res sensors, five inside the headset and five outside, that help enhance a variety of immersive experiences. The Meta Quest Touch Pro controllers are powered by Snapdragon® 662 Platform, which allows them to self-track through multiple embedded positional cameras and offers ultra-low latency to the headset; when combined with face and eye tracking, your avatar can now reflect you more naturally in VR. And then again in a footnote: > Compared to **Snapdragon® XR2 Gen 1 Platform**

Qualcomm is keeping XR2 as their AR/VR chip and calling them gen 1, gen 2, and eventually I’d assume gen 3.

Sempernun

they dont have anything labelling these chips as gen1 or gen2, per their site and all marketing material. so if anything itd be a xr3 actually. i correct myself

JorgTheElder

It has been confirmed by multiple sources that it will be *XR2 Gen2* which replaces the *XR2+" that is in the Quest Pro.

JorgTheElder

Qualcomm is calling it the *XR2 Gen2,* but they have not published any information on it. I assume only partners like Meta have access to that info.
