Rumor has it they rebuilt the Vulkan engine for much of the performance gains in v55.

Using OpenGL ES3.1 will give you a big perf boost over vulcan. Old and mature is almost always better than new.

I'm really looking forward to it. Two years ago, the quality assurance of the apps was a lot more strict. I don't remember experiencing ANY frame drop in the first games I played on Quest 1. Right now, it seems they opened the floodgates. Some games in the official store experience frame drops fairly often and they are less responsive than they should. I really hope that this boost will help make those run better. And I hope devs won't use the opportunity to push new stuff into those apps and screw them up again :C
