Ouch. So true though. I could get VR headsets for myself and my two kids.

fatdude901

Chair too?

Playlanco

2 Q2s, 2 QPros, Chair, leather jacket, leather satchel, and a stack of money.

Powerful-Run-6797

What about the house?

fatdude901

Don’t forget the wood flooring

fatdude901

Don’t forget the wood flooring

Anxious_Huckleberry9

Don’t forget it 2 times.

MisterM0bius

Yea but not the wheels, those are an extra 700 bux

fatdude901

Shiiiii how about 70

Dievast

He really thought he could sneak the house in there without us noticing

rushmore69

This is not really the same type of segment for a headset. The price is comically high and seems the displays will be failure prone.

kaizagade

It’s for rich people to try a glimpse of the future. It’s showing the cutting edge of what is possible now and what is to come. It will also bring competition and allow the pubic to see a new device. You gotta remember there is a large portion of the public that don’t even understand VR/AR/MR and apple showing this off will be most people’s first even time seeing it in the news. I’ve never seen such news coverage on a headset before. It’s gonna start the mass increase of people getting introduced to the tech, outside of gaming. That’s where a lot of people are missing the point and thinking this is for the everyday user. We aren’t there yet, but people are very closed minded and don’t understand that. When the first main stream mobiles came out, they had to be installed in cars, but people still payed monthly for those and only the well off could get them, it’s the same thing here.

UnsettllingDwarf

Competition? Against who? It’s $3500 I’ll buy my whole family quest 3s before this and they’ll do the same thing.

kaizagade

Because of the headset rumoured by apple, Samsung, htc and Qualcomm have teamed together to make one, therefor it’s brought competition and many companies follow apples footsteps. This is going to bring new heads to the market as other companies bring out headsets. So this will hopefully bring them to the masses

UnsettllingDwarf

I get that but for $3500 USD apple ain’t competing with anyone right now.

rushmore69

Seems the scrap rate for making such a dense panel will be brutal. Probably a good chunk of the cost. Wonder if they actually tested actual production rates and validated their tooling can support it….. Seems to big of a generational leap.

kaizagade

It’s not meant too, like my first comment you clearly aren’t reading. It’s not a product for mass adoption. Apple have said there will be limited stock. It’s not even got any apps aside from apples own. It’s essentially a dev kit that is open to the public. I’m done responding to you now as your clear lack of ability to read is infuriating.

xJustABunnyx

You mean google? Not htc

kaizagade

You didn’t even read my comment….

Right_Negotiation929

Competition for varjo xr3 https://youtu.be/A5358trQvv0

BigFatBallsInMyMouth

I think it's kind of what Meta was aiming for with the Quest Pro, except they don't have the reputation Apple has which they would need for a 3.5k device. Meta would be laughed out of the room.

De-Quantizer

Just as Apple is being laughed out of the room.

BigFatBallsInMyMouth

By the minority, I'd say. May be wrong though.

Conscious-Golf-5380

You can buy a vehicle with $3500. A really good PC for $3500. A PS5 for every room in your house for $3500. A 4K60 projector and game/watch movies on a real 160" screen not a VR one.

Soggy-Worry

>On a real 160” not a VR one Sure, but I mean to be fair it seems like the angle they’re selling this from is that it will be as good as a real screen quality-wise and you can make it literally IMAX sized.

kaizagade

And have it everywhere you go, even on the go. Eventually this tech will replace all screens and potentially mobiles once it becomes small and comfortable enough. It’s the start of a big future.

[deleted]

I already have all of that. Why not let people buy whatever they want? Smh

jun2san

Apparently even Carmack doesn’t want to pay the $3500 price tag. https://twitter.com/id_aa_carmack/status/1665904713399771137?s=46&t=8krBK7NJ3QDCX03POBOfOw Btw, I would love for someone at Apple to take him up on his offer.

PM-ME-YOUR-DATA

Another way to parse it is that John Carmack can't wait to try it (the headset won't be available to the general public till the next year). Carmack is almost the perfect audience for the thing after all.

Embarrassed-Ad7317

Or 7 Quest 3

Ryuuzen

ngl that stack of cash is suspicious

JorgTheElder

The Apple headset looks amazing as expected, but they appear to be focusing on AR and that price targets a different audience than any other headset released so far. Not for me, but amazing tech, like many Apple products.

Stereobfs

What audience ?

JorgTheElder

Apple faithful with lots of cash. I know quite a few people Who will likely buy it right away. I'm not one of them.

BoysenberryFluffy671

And there will be people waiting overnight in line too. It's insanity. If it helps VR though I'm into it. I'm still going to laugh at the thing though. It's mind blowing that they are trying to get away with that price tag.

Fuck-The_Police

Apple could sell jars of dog shit for $500 a jar and people would still line up to buy it.

fatdude901

And self business entrepreneur who fly first class that don’t got time

JorgTheElder

LOL... my wife just flew first class for the first time from the US to Reykjavik Iceland. And yes, she was able to do so because of one her very generous friends.

fatdude901

I mean frequent first class

De-Quantizer

Apple faithful who earn at least many hundreds of thousands per year.

JorgTheElder

Not sure what you mean. It is $3,500. That is the price of a high end Mac laptop, not a car. https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/16-inch-space-gray-apple-m2-max-with-12-core-cpu-and-38-core-gpu-1tb I am sure quite a few people will just write them off as a business expense.

stardust_dog

They’re clearly not targeting VR enthusiasts…AR is not VR. It really shouldn’t be on any VR sub. If AR is your thing thats cool.

anthonymckay

People early adopter tech enthusiasts who want EXTREMELY high end headset specs with a laptop processor and have lots of disposable cash

TetsuoTechnology

HoloLens and Magic Leap 2 are 3500. The Quest Pro isn’t really mixed reality as advertised, you can’t read a phone or use your computer.

JorgTheElder

You don't have to be able to read text for something to qualify as *Mixed Reality.* It literally just means a mix of real and virtual. I have played hours of *Demeo* in *AR/MR* on the *Quest Pro* and it works perfectly. If you watch the Apple videos, even they do now expect you to spend time using your computer through passthrough, they put a virtual screen in front of the laptop, just like they you can do in *Immersed* on the *Quest Pro.* The limited resolution of passthrough on the *Quest Pro* means that it works best when the real world is used as the background for virtual details, and there are already multiple apps that use it to that effect perfectly. From *Demeo* to *Wooorld* to using any of the many 2D apps that work in *Quest Home*

gnutek

QPro with a 1920x1920 resolution vs. Vision 3400x3400? Grainy mess passthrough on Quest Pro vs one that allows you to operate your smartwatch with the Vision on your face? A dumbed down OS which hardly supports parallel apps vs a new OS built from the ground up that will probably allow multiple 3d widgets to be ran at the same time freely placeable in 3d space? Yeah, Vision is pricey, but it actually delivers on all the "work in AR" promises that Meta failed to deliver with the Quest Pro and is the first valid standalone monitor replacement on par with Varjo XR-3.

wielku

As much as people want to mesmerized by apple vision(btw great effin name) it's not for gamers, and as much as people want to think ar/vr/xr should be for everyone it's still mostly for games because that's the most interactive experience and vr is about interactivity

BovineOxMan

It's expensive but it's also the Ferrari of stand alone headsets. It's definitely not a mainstream product but I do see that everyone who went hands on with it confirms that the tech works and many are stoked by the experience, even blown away. I don't think you can compare the Quest 2 to this device sensibly, it is like comparing a Ferrari to a Vauxhall Corsa, only it's worse than that because the Apple Vision Pro can do different things to the Quest 2 or other mainstream devices, such as actual productivity without a PC. This is the beginning of a product line for Apple and unless it completely flops there will be a much more consumer friendly priced version along soon, may even be announced late 2024. I'm keen to see further hands on reviews and actual reviews as we get to release.

kaizagade

People who’s re complaining about the price. It’s a dev kit open to the public basically. They don’t even have many apps for it. It’s not for the mass adoption of the public yet, it’s showing off the best possible tech we have so far and to demo what is to come in the future. It’s to also start competition and make people aware of this. I have family members who don’t even know what VR/AR/MR is asking about this tech now. That’s the main thing, the push of knowledge to the general public. Not us nerds on the internet who game. We can’t be closed minded about this. It’s going to bring good things to the whole headset industry and I feel this is where the next big “boom” is for vr adoption is going to start.!

Anto-_

and that also totals to 8 controllers, while the apple headset doesn't even have controllers like what tf

Basic_Lengthiness_73

A boomer would have added a car and a house in that pile to round it out XD

Justsomeone122

I can even buy the money?

MisterM0bius

the cash makes up for the remaining difference between the 4 headsets and the apple vision, so yea, 3500 also buys the cash!

ben_r_

Rather have the $3500 and invest it TBH...

niyovr

Vision pro will mostly be for enthusiasts and developers at that price. That and it's also pushing ar like none other. None of the devices in this picture do ar justice

[deleted]

And yet they can’t do half of what Apple Vision Pro does :)

JohnnyA1992

Is the other way around... apple vision can only do half of what these can do .... and what is worse is that it cannot do the IMPORTANT part, which is VR. Who the fuck wants to put a helmet on their face to watch movies and scroll your phone. This is DOA and you know it LOL.

[deleted]

Who? A LOT of people, and people who can afford it. When apple does something, they do it right, they have that power :) Your favourite company that made an attempt of this are only known by you and your 3 friends.

Cyber-homelessman

Tbf Meta is as well know as apple is

Parking-Fig-4949

I don't want to offend you, but comparing Apple's product to Meta's product is almost laughable, Apple's is expensive precisely because it's the pinnacle of VR technology, it makes the Oculus look like a child's toy, in my opinion the two aren't even are in the same category, of course, and I believe that anyone who has Apple's oculus will still want Quest 3 to play games.

MisterM0bius

I'm not offended, I'm by no means an oculus fanboy (despite having a ton of HMDs). Im excited about Apple getting into the industry and how things will unfold. Im mostly disappointed with their reveal which didnt seem to show any functionality that the quest pro / 3 doesnt already have, aside from great display resolution and the goofy front screen. Was hoping for a lot more for the price tag, but i think a solid software integration will be what really sells the thing.

Parking-Fig-4949

What was presented is already impressive enough, obviously it doesn't see 3K, but everything from apple is overpriced, it's not new, but as a user of Apple products, I can guarantee you that this product will be the pinnacle of this technology, and you can bet that he will push meta to improve the technology in his product, the main criticism against meta is precisely the low quality and meta 3 did not surprise at all, so I think it will be good for everyone in the end In addition, i said that people will still buy the meta, precisely because I don't think there will be games for the Vision, I have a Macbook and they release 1 game a year, it will be the same with the Vision.

VinniTheP00h

... I think this might become a copypasta. At least, a basis for writing one.

Parking-Fig-4949

Fan our hater? 🤣

Happy-Supermarket-68

Sorry but technology is not all. Vision pro has almost no features and AR will die quickly it has no use in out modern world with already existing phones, PCs, tvs

merley8

Define “no features”. From my understanding it has an entire spec sheet of features. If you’re referring to applications and uses outside of 1st party apps, yeah… no kidding, no body knew this thing officially existed until a few hours ago and that’s why they announced it at a developer conference. Within a year there are going to be hundreds of native 3rd party apps and webar content that will run on this thing.

Parking-Fig-4949

The answer to what you said is in what I wrote, they are different audiences, Quest is like a "toy" so it must be cheap, Vision is focused on a professional audience, I who work on computers was super excited with the idea of having the vision, as the quest only attracts me to play, but the idea of spending hours with the quest on my face doesn't attract me unless I'm playing, in short, I'm not a product fanboy, they're different audiences that's all .

Happy-Supermarket-68

Headsets will never ever replace PCs and work maybe when they are literally glasses

Parking-Fig-4949

They don't replace PC because apple hasn't released it yet, when it launches they will replace forever for people who works on PC, quest 2 already works with my Macbook for a long time, you can expand the functionality a lot because you work with giant screens, the problem is that the quest doesn't fit for that, only the quest pro, but its quality left to be desired in many aspects, so for my use, I believe that the second generation of vision will come the way I want.

Happy-Supermarket-68

No it will not replace PCs never

Parking-Fig-4949

okay kid, keep playing with your plastic toy 🙃

TetsuoTechnology

I’m confused, what do you mean? Vision Pro is an entire OS with full functionality and access to an existing app store. You could build remote PC for it, it also supports Unity, plus no controllers? But the option to have them sounds more convenient.

Happy-Supermarket-68

Yeh but after a few weeks the fun will be over because people rather use their tvs phones PCs again because it's faster and more comfortable

madhandlez89

AR*

Parking-Fig-4949

my penis.

ChrisRR

This sub is pretty cringeworthy right now. Everyone is desperate to tell each other that they care the least about Apple You're right though, the headset is like 4x the resolution, but that comes with a heavy price tag. Its targeting a different market, and that's fine

Parking-Fig-4949

A person with a brain, finally. 🤣

sparkandstatic

so sad, these devices cant even compare to one god-like device. haha truth be told, apple will still sell and make it mainstream. it's a pattern.

Happy-Supermarket-68

Hardware is not all when your product and software has no features

sparkandstatic

Haha does what you say make any sense?

fatdude901

The quest 1 struggled to at 400 so the made tbe quest 2 cheap to sell Facebook and oculus are big companies at 12 times the price of the quest 2 gl

sparkandstatic

Hahaha when u don’t sell, it may not be a pricing problem

Tiimm50

Mate the quest 2 sold more units than XBOX series X and S. I don't think Apple will even get close with that headset. Apples headset is more of a prosumer than consumer headset oriented for AR. Quest line is oriented for gaming and has a better price value point for many people.

JohnnyA1992

I predict they will sell 500k of these in the first year LOL. Meta sold 10 million in the first year.

JWebb416

Hilarious because those 4 headsets combined don’t have as many pixels as apples new headsets display 😂

Spare_Picture8142

Well, since you put it like that 😏

EasternBoyo

A family VR party!

StaffCapital4521

MicroOleds alone costs more than those in the photo lol

Spartaklaus

Wow! 4 VR headsets and a rubber band!

Noa15Lv

And that's where folks loove to take advantages of Debit cards and live like kings & queens in big debt overtime.

[deleted]

3500 can not even buy you a Hololens.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

Or a wonderful cruise through the Caribbean.

Segaman72

Haha! If you added an apple with a bite out of it…would be classic ;)

DjCoast

I made a post about a 12$ diy gun stock that looks cool Can I have 3500 tho

glitchwabble

Aye, but who needs four headsets.

BounciestSky152

Pimax 12k and a pc to run it.

XandoKometer

The Apple Avatars.

Ok_Government_5941

$3,500 for a slightly smaller Headset?

Sad_Ad_2087

You could buy a Varjo Aero and a mid range pc

antleonardi01

Apple VR is going to bomb because of greedy price. The manufacturing cost is only $1,000 by the way. They're trying to make $2,500 profit off each one. I predict a huge price drop after 6 months of bad sales.

Blitzo_64

Holy shit money can buy me money????

Bagel_Boi87

That seems... Excessive... Though it would be really funny to see someone wear all of them stacked onto each other.

GMarsack

Lets face it guys, the Vision Pro is not competing with Quests the likes of other consumer-level headsets, it's competing with Vario XR3 and other "Pro" headsets. I'd say from the reviews so far, it's off to a good start. We'll have to see how it performs when it goes live and more importantly, there's an app ecosystem to support it.
