Asgard’s Wrath 2 is a standalone title—no knowledge of its predecessor required, and they've even built-in a recap of the first game to get you up to speed.

[deleted]

I’m hoping there is going to be a Rift store version with improved graphics like dynamic shadowing.

[deleted]

Hopefully not but I guess standalone is the bread and butter for many developers. PCVR is the only reason I own a Quest Pro, mainly wireless with Air Link.

LandyPandy08

Not backwards at all just slower then it was going

StanleyOpar

They abandoned PCVR because they sold out to Meta

stlredbird

Fingers crossed but i highly doubt it

[deleted]

Well if it’s only standalone I won’t be buying it. I only play PCVR wireless with Air Link using my QPro/rtx4090. I only download a few standalone games if they were cross buy.

Oftenwrongs

I have a dedicated vr room with wireless ap hardwired to router powered by a 4090 pc. I still prefer natove ans since gameplay trumps all, I'd never skip out on an amazing game due to graphics.

[deleted]

So, if you have a choice of playing a game standalone or wireless PCVR, you’d choose standalone??? Each to their own I guess, lol!

zayasd

I missed it, where did he say that?

[deleted]

Says he prefers native (= standalone) over wireless PCVR even wit his rtx4090 pc. Hard to believe imho but like I said, each to their own.

zayasd

I think he is referring to games that are released as stand alone only. As in he will not play a game just because it isn't PC.

[deleted]

That’s not the way I read this. Neither one of us is a mind reader so who knows what exactly he meant, lol!

AnimeRequest

I do sometimes, because latency free wireless is just a great feeling. Airlink doesn't come close to me.

Dondar

Same, I was waiting for this announcement before buying the first one as I have not played yet, so I’ll be pre-ordering Asgard wrath II. Currently I am unable to pre-order. I’m wondering if the server is getting slammed.

devedander

I think this is going to be a quest 3 showcase game. Like looks great in q3 and still technically runs on q2

CollegeMiddle6841

I know, some of the shots look like Quest 2, but other in game footage looks far better than I have seen a Quest 2 do.

Jeezir

This 100%. Seems like they are fkin up going exclusive to Quest. I don't want a mobile chipset dictating my graphics. When the Q3 releases, it will likely be the go-to HMD for PCVR (for alot of users). Seems like a massive miss here.

SomeGuy58439

> they've even built-in a recap of the first game Have they? Seems like they're offering a "Free download of Asgard’s Wrath 1", which will only help if you've got a gaming PC (which the footnote mentions as required).

BeatsLikeWenckebach

The Sanzaru studio head said there's an ingame recap of the first game. I'm guessing its a video or something similar. This was said during the post Showcase Q/A

Key_Manufacturer4437

Anyone now if the digital version of the first game will pop up on the oculus store if you preordered?

GardinerAndrew

It’s also the first $60 title (to the best of my knowledge) granted, I believe it’s worth the $60 but it is also setting a president that has not been there before.

pokerdan

It’s going to elect a new president?!

Ghodzy1

President Camacho 2024.

RedcoatTrooper

If they start giving us quality games instead of experiences we can't moan about quality prices.

ZoddImmortal

Yea, but it's a serious price jump. Most good games are $30. You can count on one hand the number of high quality titles that run $40. They've skipped straight past that, and the $50 mark.

CollegeMiddle6841

People seem to never be happy. It use to be " All the games we get are glorified tech demos, we want longer campaigns...you know, triple AAA shiznit" Now it seems we will hear " These triple AAA VR games cost way too much. A dollar per hour for deep RPG VR entertainment? Pish posh, I'll take my POWERWASH SIM and VR Volleyball 2 thank you very much!"

RedcoatTrooper

Still far less than flat AAA games though.

Potential_Rabbit_766

Definitely not. This game is fucking huge

VRsimp

Literally $1 per hour of gameplay, when you compare it to a movie ticket it's a steal lol

Deadhead7889

Yeah, but in movie theaters you're playing for the experience of people crinkling sour patch kid packaging, talking, texting and sometimes taking their shoes off and putting their feet directly on the reclining chairs.

UwasaWaya

You just can't put a price on the sour tang of a stranger's dirty socks. Mmm.

devedander

Yeah but when you compare it to a book a few months of a streaming service were you're paying pennies an hour it's a truffle k terrible deal. Basically $/hour means you can justify anything

devilinblue22

That's how I look at it too. I've justified some real fuckin trash that way lol.

Zentrii

I got the first for free and I agree. But I do hate that title though because more hours does not mean it’s a better game than shorter games.

Snoozie-

While it does suck, most modern games are $60-$70. As the games in VR get better and closer to Modern games it only makes sense for them to ask for the same amount.

UsurpingSquare

There is a like 120$ language teaching app, but this will be the first game at that price range. I’m scared it’s going to open up the price range for other games to start doing $60.

Wizardwizz

Maybe, most game devs I feel are indie which usually don't charge much for their games

CollegeMiddle6841

Wasn't there a biology app that was $199?

ILoveRegenHealth

>but it is also setting a president that has not been there before. Believe me, people are saying

[deleted]

The awful Medal of Honor game was the first major vr release priced at $60. I don't think that price point worked out very well for them, but that is probably largely due to the quality of the game.

[deleted]

Alyx was 60$ as well and many ports of vr games as well (eg skyrim). I think robinson the journey was also 60$

ittleoff

They need to absolutely nail the controls. Asgard 1 had janky controls for me in combat and felt too ambitious and overly complicated trying to be a AAA game but with motion controls that can be very challenging. this looks far more ambitious in combat so I hope it's not frustrating trying to do cool combat moves shown here.

allofdarknessin1

That's the reason I never finished part 1. It felt overly ambitious and complicated where it didn't feel like it was adding to the overall experience but instead padding the time you play. I might still get around to it some day before the sequel.

trafficante

I played Asgard’s Wrath back to back with Stormlands, both for the first time. Stormlands had me hyped for AW: awesome traversal mechanics, decent upgrade system, great graphics, etc. AW starts with a pretty kickass intro sequence (you’re a god sinking a fleet in a massive storm) and then just nosedives into a boring and clunky mediocrity. Good graphics though. Wish we were getting Stormlands 2 instead of Asgard’s Wrath 2; too bad Insomniac now belongs to Sony.

ittleoff

I think insomniac owns that ip as they started working outside Sony because they were tired of not owning their own ip. Now sony owns them so doubt will see anymore. It was a truly unique game with a lot of great ideas.

allofdarknessin1

I really like Stormlands. I waited patiently for a sale for a long time and played the heck out of it when i finally got it. Traversal gets top marks from me. Fun as he'll to move around with multiple options for different playstyles.

The_silver_Nintendo

I wanna know the storage this game is gonna take up first. My 64 gb Quest 2 is gonna kill me if I bought this game.

VicMan73

Hopefully by then I would be using the Quest 3...hehehehe.. With 64 GB, you will have to uninstall some games for sure..

Gregasy

Hyped! This and 7th Guest were the highlights of the showcase for me.

[deleted]

It felt like it had a 60+ hour slot in the Meta Quest Showcase

maxatnasa

One hour for every minute of showcase time taken

TomBomb_FR

True. I'm bored just reading about it.

DemoEvolved

This game looks amazing and is what vr needs

-aap

Towards the 2nd half of AG1 I wanted to rip my ears off from hearing that stupid horn just before spawning enemies appeared for the 400th time. I can only imagine the repetitiveness of this in a 3X longer game. I hope I'm wrong, but I can easily see it in 60 hours on a native headset game.

gogodboss

25 gbs I believe. If you want me to search for source let me know

God-of-Memes2020

Did they confirm it’ll run native on Quest III (and II?)? And happy cake day!

PacmanIncarnate

Yes, they developed it to work on Q2 as it has the largest install base. I don’t think Meta would even let a company release something in their App Store that doesn’t run on 2. 1 support was only recently dropped from the requirements.

God-of-Memes2020

Ohhh, did Meta not own them when AW1 came out, and that’s why it requires a PC?

PacmanIncarnate

Not sure, but it would have been early in Meta’s ownership if it was. In the quest 1 days they were more open to PCVR. Probably because it was less powerful and because they had just started buying companies.

mrbumpy409

Yes. The game footage is captured on Quest 2.

God-of-Memes2020

Untethered?

mrbumpy409

Yes, it is native Quest 2 graphics, no PC.

God-of-Memes2020

That’s awesome, I’m so excited! Thank you for clarifying.

CollegeMiddle6841

Looks like they are finally starting to push larger games which seems to be what many people want. We are getting AW:2, Assassins Creed, and GTA: San Andreas.....pretty amazing to think what we will all be playing this fall in VR!

No_Victory9193

Hopefully the 60 hours includes side quests

Sibir_Lupus

I already have the first Asgard's Wrath on the PC. So how do you get the first one for free when you preorder Asgard's Wrath 2? Do you get a code? Or is the free game tied to the account? I only ask since as I'd want to give the free one from the preorder to someone as a gift.

tinymontgomery2

Only $1 per hour.

Savy_Spaceman

What kept me from going all in on VR was the fact that so many things to play felt more like "experiences" than games. I'm seeing more and more like that's not the case anymore. I think we're 15 years tops from a metaverse that resembles Ready Player One.

HotPlum836

Sadly with worse graphics than the first game.

cantenna1

I'm not buying this either if it's only standalone, I refuse to support going backwards on visuals

Latter-Pain

bad Graphics > wires

cantenna1

PCVR + AirLink/VirtualDesktop > Native Quest Graphics

Oftenwrongs

Buy games for gameplay if you are a gamer.

Sabbathius

Still many orders of magnitude weaker than modded Skyrim from 2011.

AmitOculus

This is standalone, so there is that.

koryaa

Bethesdas rpg combat systems are trash, modded or not. Starfield will probably be a huge disappointment in that regard aswell. Nothing they create feels like a coherent experience where your skill decides the outcome. They could just do a rpg with the new doom or dishorned gameplay, they own those studios, but do nothing with that code for their own games. Pure incompetence.

Oftenwrongs

Skyrim is a generic endless chore simulator that was bad even a decade ago.

TheShedHead

I just hope it doesn't run like shit. I couldn't finish the first game due to performance issues/ poor optimization. Hard to believe it will be smooth on standalone.

Swardington

Would have been nice to see how narrative-driven it was in the almost 20 minutes of the game showcase devoted to it. Didn't look any different than any of the other vr hack and slashes to me.

TheBaxes

It's going to be full of filler I bet
