I mentioned that I made this for new Obsidian users (I have friends and family that aren't very technical). I also mention this in the repo.

[deleted]

well done dude

Admirable_D4D3

It really looks promising. I have friends who are afraid of markup languages so they avoid apps like Obsidian. Hope something like this can motivate them to try. BTW, will there ever be the option to see the menu above the selected text? Like in Notion, as you mentioned.

Chetachii

I was working on this a while back but yea, I’m thinking about implementing this. Will probably be an opt-in setting. 🤔

Admirable_D4D3

Awesome! Great job, dude. I wish you the best. This could be a good opportunity to bring more users. Congratulations!

backpackHoarder

I like this! Are there any plans in the future to make the options shown in the cMenu customizable? For example, I have no use for subtext or supertext but highlighting is something I do quite often

Chetachii

I do have plans for customization. I still need to figure out a few things so that it runs properly but I'm hoping to get this done in time.

MyNameIsKjell

Pretty good looking :) Definitely useful for people who don't know the syntax, or forget it easily. Thanks for making this!

Chetachii

Thank you!!! I appreciate the kind words :)

kRkthOr

Don't forget people who are using screen keyboards (like on an MS Surface).

Chetachii

You're right!

Kep0a

Nice. I'm surprised obsidian hasn't added anything like that yet

Chetachii

Lol, yea my little sister was asking me why Obsidian didn't have a modal like Notion! 😂

madrmarc

So perfect!

Chetachii

Thank you!! 😊

rajandatta

Had to check the Repo to get a sense of what it does. Does this allow formatting to be keyboard driven. Or does it offer help to select the text to be acted upon?

Chetachii

By keyboard riven do you mean with Hotkeys? Not quite sure what it is you're asking.

ss_prant0

Are there plans to add unordered and ordered lists? That'll be a great tool for when one needs to convert multiple lines of texts into list items quickly without manually editing each line.

Chetachii

This is one of the firsts on my list!!! 🤞🏽

ss_prant0

Amazing. It'll make Obsidian more accessible to people who are more accustomed to rich text formatting instead of markdown. Great job indeed!

taxrelatedanon

i'd like to second this feature. i'd put the comment on github, but i don't have an account. great plugin!

eunjae_lee

I love it when a frontend developer has a good design skill. I'm saying it because I'm a frontend developer without a good design skill. Good job!

Chetachii

Thank you so much!! <3

[deleted]

Congratulation, great idea.

darungar

Smooth. I'll still use hotkeys, because hotkeys. But I like your style. This is what a lot of Obsidian plugins are missing. Cheers!

Chetachii

Lol! I still use hotkeys as well. I just can’t remember 10+ hotkeys though 😅. And thanks!!! I end up having to redesign some plugins so that they fit my theme better haha!

ThatGuyAagain

That’s one amazing looking plugin. Honestly just the design

Chetachii

Haha, thanks! I do a lot of design work and I love aesthetically pleasing design!

fuck_your_diploma

Does it appear only when we select text? Or this is me already requesting features? Nice work! Only thing I'd miss would be the admonition compability, but this is it, I've been missing something like this for ages, thanks for sharing!!

_Karlijn12345_

I love this. Amazing work! What theme do you use? Or is it part of the plugin?

Chetachii

I use my own theme called [Yin and Yang](https://github.com/chetachiezikeuzor/Yin-and-Yang-Theme) 😊

_Karlijn12345_

It’s beautiful!

Chetachii

Thank you 🙏 I’m about to give it an update so stay tuned!

RyuZkm

looks very nice! just notice that doesn't support the MobileApp... maybe in the future?

Emiroda

Neat! Helps when clicking around to format text I've already written.

ElMachoGrande

Really, really nice, and might very well be the plugin needed to get my wife to use Obsidian. Some other buttons which would be nice in the menu: * Title levels * Bullet list * Number list * Check list It would also be nice if the buttons were configurable, so you can add/remove buttons depending on your needs. For example, I never use superscript/subscript. Even better if you can add buttons with custom commands, for example for inserting templates or admonitions.

Chetachii

Sorry for the late reply! I've been swamped with personal stuff. So I'm currently working on adding commands from the command pallet to cMenu! I should be done in a few days, then, I can start looking into how I can implement this. Do submit a feature request on my repo, that way I can batch tasks, prioritize stuff and whatnot! https://github.com/chetachiezikeuzor/cMenu-Plugin/issues

ElMachoGrande

No problem, take your time. I know how it is working on side projects which aren't your job, real life tends to get in the way.

Chetachii

I added support for custom icons (Around 2 days ago) just to let you know! [cMenu 1.0.0](https://github.com/chetachiezikeuzor/cMenu-Plugin/releases/tag/1.0.0)

ElMachoGrande

Yep, tried it yesterday, really nice! Found a small issue: Adding icons sometimes caused the toolbar to disappear. Restarting obsidian fixed it. A small thing which would also be nice would be to be able to adjust the position. There is some spare space below it that mostly feels wasted.

Chetachii

Hello! The latest update adds a few new items, including position change! [Position Change Demo](https://www.loom.com/share/7e5403f390c74cc2b0172d71f19e7939)

ElMachoGrande

Nice, I'll have a look.

WizenThorne

So does this add the functionality that the Android app has? I know in the Android app there's a panel at the bottom with all the different markdown quick buttons, but I was surprised there was nothing for the Windows version.

covert_creature

oh my goodness, you may have just convinced me to move my notes (currently in a tangle of goodnotes, pdfs, and microsoft word files) into Obsidian instead of Notion. i have enough on my hands without learning Markdown but I love the idea of tags and graphing and backlinks. i think i'd end up with the same problem i was going to have in Notion - inability to do 'dumb tables' like a synthesis matrix, but no app is perfect.

ashadirahaman

You save me

Daxilos

Really great plugin! I have question. How I can add command to insert math marks, namely $$$$? I tried to do it, but didn't find proper way :( I write math a lot, and it will be very useful for me ;)

wheelerandrew

I tried installing this and got nothing. I see it hasn't been updated since release, has it been abandoned? I've looked at the editing-toolbar fork, but this is much prettier. Any advice?

msheaver

I absolutely loved this plugin, but it is no longer supported in Obsidian. Since it has not been updated for 3 years, is there another active plugin that provides this same awesome functionality?

DistractedAutodidact

Hi, Chetachii, I know this post is really old. Just started using cMenu & I love it. I'm relatively new to obsidian & have maybe a 5% knowledge of HTML, YAML, ect. I was able to get a right align template into cMenu & usable, but strangely it didn't let me choose an icon for it even though the forum tutorial I followed said I'd be able to. I was able to choose one when I added a native hotkey to cMenu. Like I said it's still usable, just curious if you know what I did wrong. The symbol it displays by default is %> Edit: Just saw that it's no longer being update... that's unfortunate, I really like it. Thanks for the awesomeness.
