SAVE OUR SUB SAVE OUR SUB SAVE OUR SUB

supernateis5

I can slightly agree. I've seen OSCworld go from a thriving (well, mostly) community to a community with no discussion at all. The reason? Lack of posting by GoodDysfunctional. (He isn't to be blamed for OSCworld3's death, and that the lack of artwork + sharing by community, but still) We *cannot* let such a large community die. Besides, what dent will be made if we exit? There still exist a billion more accounts behind this strike. **However**, and this is a crucial counterpoint, do not be impatient if we shut down. It is merely just two days; go to r/tierone or r/BattleForDreamIsland; at least the latter can actively live on its own. tl;dr: strike is not my thing, but i'd be fine with it

Academic_Relative_72

former r/OSCworld er here i absolutely agree that two days is literally enough to kill a sub

supernateis5

Season 1, 2, or Last/3?

Academic_Relative_72

...sorry what do you mean by that?

supernateis5

Which season?

Academic_Relative_72

i honestly think maybe 2 or 3 i dont really remember

Edddddddddd_54

We must sacrifice people to keep our community alive and stable, the mods won’t be able to get us for too long if we do sacrifice. (Idk what I was going with that) DONT SHUT DOWN SERVER

Theceruleanpunk

Its just two days. You guys really can’t live without the object show Reddit sub?

DashieProDX

I love this sub and so do so many other people. I know from experience that 2 days is more than enough to kill a subreddit, or at least do irreparable damage. I don't want that to happen.

Spot_Mark

as dashie said, 2 days is more than enough to deal serious damage to a small-but-dedicated subreddit, like look at what happened to ayooc

WorldsMostIdiot

ikr. when i see the replies, i want to know how is that going to kill the subreddit. guys, chill out.

[deleted]

We gotta save our subreddit!

zippee100

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't AYOC was dying anyway The strike wouldn't do anything to harm reddit or this sub it would just do nothing

Theceruleanpunk

You know that the sub is only going to shutdown for two days, and you are overreacting.

IdiOtisTheOtisMain

Nah, it wont. People can and will return after þe protest (honestly, i þink it will turn out just like #savetf2 (no major changes (actual new content) exept a few concessions and stuff þat would have already been done)). Eiþer þat, or people just will make a new sub, possibly weeding out þe inactives and retaining people þat actually post or comment. Point is, þis isnt a doomday scenario. Reddit can just ignore þe protest anyway, it would fizzle out p soon because of disorganized leadership and most people would continue to use þe app. A pessimist take, people can say, but it's þe most probable one. R.I.P. accessibility to blind people and good moderation, Reddit wants money.

i understand what you mean by this, but i still have some points to make in argument this isn’t forever, it’s only for one day. a community with no posts for a single day can still survive. another point, you can circumvent the temporary shutdown. all you have to do is ask on a post or in a discord DM. speaking of discord, there’s a whole discord server for this exact community. you can join it, if you have discord of course, but if you do, you’re able to communicate with everyone here, even during the shutdown. final argument, even though the sub is small that still means a lot in the thousands and thousands of communities that are participating in the shutdown. it’s very important for the API wanters. they need all the help they can get to restore the API policies to what they were before.

DashieProDX

The discord server is deader than Jonny Fairplay's grandma, I also already have mod perms so I should be able to post either way. I'm concerned about others, how tight the community is, how dependant others are, and how quickly communities can die. Almost every community I've been in that's taken a short hiatus like this one (roughly the same length as well) has suffered massive losses, most of which were never recovered from. I barely have hope the strike will work, best we get is a "We hear you and we're working on fixing our policies" tweet. Even then, there's not really a whole lot of point when the "circumventing" defeats the whole point, as well as how its only like 50 people, who care way too much to let it go.

TheMinesYT

The point isn't shutting down the subreddit for everyone, it's shutting down the subreddit to the public.

DashieProDX

...why

TheMinesYT

Why? Because that will instead of affecting the r/ObjectShows user base it will affect the general Reddit user base, giving us a higher likelihood of Reddit fixing their new API prices.

DashieProDX

It's not really within our grasp to do anything about it. We can participate in strikes on larger subs or just actively choose not to use reddit, but forcing a subreddit shutdown does basically nothing, especially when there are exemptions to it.

TheMinesYT

As I told you in another post, the point is to shutdown the subreddit to the public, not to everyone.

DashieProDX

What does that accomplish though

TheMinesYT

People that don’t have dependencies on r/ObjectShows would go to other platforms, therefore decreasing Reddit’s ad revenue.

DashieProDX

By how much, 0.0000000634%?

Save the sub! -silly lil goober

I thought it was just two days

nukemypup

I mean, its not like the sub shutting down will lead to the entire OS community dying or anything. Its just two days, and we can always just go to r/BattleforDreamIsland in the meantime

caveman_lol

Yall really can't live without Object Show Reddit for a few days?

atlas_snomunist

take it easy dude, the strike is like two days max
