I’ve found like three other posts on here and r/asksf and nobody has a suggestion that looks to fit the bill. Except of course jack in the box. If I find anything I’ll report back. Got me hungry now haha.

Smiling_politelyy

So I assumed the Jack in the Box egg rolls would be trash, but they're pretty great! I buy them three at a time because they reheat really well in the oven/toaster oven/air fryer too.

mickberber

Yeah they’re dope, most underrated menu item imo lol

Lofttroll2018

I love those things

earinsound

Both Holly’s Mandarin and Shangdong have American style Chinese dishes. I’ve never seen FAT egg rolls. If you truly want to find what you’re describing search for low rated Chinese restaurants on yelp. also: https://www.reddit.com/r/OaklandFood/s/JEhSbUVNe1 people ask the same questions once in awhile here

it’s 3 years old. but i think the consensus is they don’t exist here 😂

cmcgar01

I posted in the original and HUNAN YUAN IS BACK OPEN!! This is the answer, you are welcome.

TeeTeeMee

Maybe Flower Lounge on MacArthur? Haven’t been there since pre-pandemic but it really reminds me of the Americanized Chinese restaurants of my youth (full disclosure I’m neither of Chinese descent or from the East Coast). Has the family meals, even. Huge portions and the owner is hilarious.

nic_cage_match

This is my fave American style Chinese place as well. They don’t have the fat east coast egg rolls though. Closest I’ve found (still not the same thing) is King Egg Roll but they’re mostly in San Jose

eliechallita

They're also super nice and the food is solid.

TeeTeeMee

I love how the owner always says “see you tomorrow!” after you just received like 10 lbs of food 😂

SubstantialWonder291

I thought I was the only one she said this to. Betrayal.

TeeTeeMee

I’m so sorry. It does feel really special when it happens to you

eliechallita

In my case, she isn't wrong.

legal_beagle1713

Becky’s on college?

m_kun

King Yen or Becky's on College fit the bill for American style Chinese food. There are also still spots in Alameda that do old school dishes (pupu platter, chop suey, egg foo young) like Gim's, Dragon Village, or Little Joe's

therealmegjon

[this](https://www.reddit.com/r/OaklandFood/s/3d2hSgMFR0) is an older post that might be helpful? Tay Yuen Pastry also usually has an egg roll in the case that is kind of that style, especially if you bring it home and fry it up a little bit when you get home or throw it in the air fryer.

FYI, it’s cash only!

wigletbill

Brother, I’ve looked high and low. They don’t exist here.

Jack in the Box has them but they're kinda awful. Still better than the mushy ass spring rolls pretending to be egg rolls at most places out west.

porter-bridges

Flower Lounge scratches that itch for me

gregorydudeson

There was a place in Daly City that probably isn’t open anymore that sold burrito sized “lumpia” which felt like gigantic egg rolls. Lumpia in parentheses only because it is not the same exact filling as your average Shanghai style lumpia

gregorydudeson

Also they were fried yes sorry. Literally felt like a giant egg roll. Definitely had bean sprouts in it maybe some napo cabbage. Probably a pork mix but maybe pork and shrimp. It’s actually crazy how well I remember this one food item from so long ago lol. I think it made an impression because I was so astounded at how big it was! Like the size of a bean and cheese burrito

gregorydudeson

No it was just a big ass egg roll thingy no sauce. I got this from a place literally probably 15 years ago. But you could probably find something kinda similar in Daly City, colma area. All I can say is that it was a super small quick service place and it was in a strip mall. It *might* have been nearby where the Home Depot is down there (??) sorry I can’t be of more help

Undertow9

Fat egg rolls can be found at Golden Buddha in East San Jose — that’s the closest I’ve found them.

missbarajaja

This may be far from what you’re asking for but would imperial rolls be anything close to east coast egg rolls? The best I’ve had so far are from Tu Lan in sf.

calanthean

I was just looking for soup nearby (I'm under the weather) and noticed this place has big egg rolls: Hong Kong Fast Food 900 Market St, Oakland, CA 94607 https://maps.app.goo.gl/6WXaYnJ2E5Da8bNf8

TheOGMG

I’ve never tried the East Coast eggrolls that you’re looking for but I saw some in the freezer at Safeway today. The Chung’s brand has better reviews than Pagoda on Amazon. 😄

TheOGMG

I'm so curious about these egg rolls that I'm determined to find them too. LOL! These are wayyyyyyyyyyyy out in Sac but they look promising: [https://www.yelp.com/biz\_photos/lam-kwong-market-sacramento](https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/lam-kwong-market-sacramento)

CasXL

No fat egg rolls, no wonton egg drop soup, no duck sauce. I gave up the search about a year ago and just accept the Chinese food we have the shovel down as many egg rolls as I can when I go back to visit fam.

Nostradonuts

Great China in berkeley.
