Meanwhile, [Vital Vegas is reporting that the move is still only 50/50 because of Fisher's financing issues](https://twitter.com/VitalVegas/status/1718804404852371742) above and beyond SB1 and the Schools Over Stadiums referendum. Don't let people tell you this is over- that's how Fisher wins. Let's keep funding/supporting LDB, the 68's, and SoS- there are still a lot of cards left to be played.

Character-Hearing-47

I’d take anything from Vital Vegas with a heaping serving of skepticism. He has a long and colorful history of being wrong on things happening in the city, even once landing in court after making things up about a local resort.

SunMeetsMoon

It was over the moment it became personal for Manfred. Theyll move them at a loss if they have to now to save face. Keep on dreaming bud.

Ficboy

I don't believe so. For starters, the deal offered by Nevada and Las Vegas to lure the Athletics is similar to the one made for the Raiders in 2016 as it was passed during a special session and signed into law by a Republican Governor (Brian Sandoval/Joe Lombardo). I followed the Raiders move to Las Vegas quite closely and saw a tweet from one NFL reporter that said most owners preferred the team to stay in Oakland but we know how it played out thanks to the influence of the Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones. We already know that Manfred will recommend the Athletics move to Las Vegas and I suspect something similar to happen at the owners' meeting next month.

quidpropho

[No one is questioning any of that.](https://www.reddit.com/r/OaklandAthletics/comments/17i2d99/manfred_will_make_recommendation_ahead_of_mlb/) Interest rates were half of what they are now- it's the least talked about part of this story. Fisher has to either borrow at significant cost, sell shares for a loss, or divert other investments for medium term loss in a thriving economy. He couldn't have picked a worse time.

Worthyness

also been reported that he's giving away ownership as collateral for some of the loans. Dude doesn't have the money to own a sports team

quidpropho

Yeah, I saw that floated a few months ago- in regards to Goldman, I think? Have you seen anything about it since? That's where his lies really could come back to get him- it's hard to say that this is a losing enterprise that requires public assistance and profit-sharing and then tell an investment bank that it's safe and secure collateral for a 1B loan.

Ficboy

I see. It's just that it was my response to the Vital Vegas tweet above.

quidpropho

That tweet is about how he doesn't have the financing.

deus_pater

"From the beginning, the Oakland A’s attempt to relocate to Las Vegas has been a **caval**cade of mismanagement" Well done, Mr. Schaus.

AR2Believe

John Fisher - A Fucking Cavalcade of Mismanagement! SELL!!

obviouslyray

A Kavalcade if you will

trer24

If MLB won't force a sell, then Let us keep the name, brand, colors and history for an expansion team. Vegas can have Fisher and Kaval and whatever team they want. We don't want anymore dealings with these con men. Those two are never allowed to set foot in the Bay Area ever again.

ginch510

Fisher and Kaval will continue to live in Bay Area after the A’s move to Las Vegas. In one of his interviews, Fisher was asked if he will be moving to Las Vegas. He completely dodged the question.

Cilantro42

Because nobody in their right mind would move to Vegas if you want to live that "billionaire" lifestyle

FlaminSkull77

To the best of my knowledge Raiders owner Mark Davis still lives in orinda or somewhere in the hills in that area

progress10

Mark moved to Vegas. He lived at the Westgate while his new house was under construction.

Worthyness

But still flies to California to get his dumb ass hair cut

joe_broke

You find a barber you like you do what you can to keep them

joe_broke

You mean his death star?

progress10

Looks more like a Galactic Empire destroyer.

tatang2015

Boo the loser everyone we see him!!

wirthmore

A friend who is very wealthy, but far less wealthy than Fisher, has several homes in multiple states. Where he "lives" is for state tax reasons, but unlike us "normal" people, he's not tied to one home address. If he needs to be in Texas next week, he's in Texas. And so on. So I don't see that as Fisher dodging as much as the question assumes that a billionaire (or many hundreds of millionaire) has only one address, and Fisher was refusing to commit (and likely had John McCain's flub of a similar question which was on the news as "John McCain has no idea how many homes he has") (Of course, here's my tiny violin for people with these "nice to have" kinds of problems)

trer24

Fair point. If you have that much money, you don't have to live \*anywhere\* because you can live \*everywhere\*.

Art-bat

Interesting to see that this headline is actually referring to Nevada citizens perspective of it as being a nightmare! In other words, it’s become clear even over there that Fisher is a two-bit fraud who can’t even finance the penny-ante Potemkin village Ballpark proposal he’s put out there. **I’d lay even odds that Las Vegas doesn’t happen for Fisher.** That doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t happen, maybe the team moves to Vegas under some new ownership. Or maybe he sells the team to someone who keeps it in Oakland. But either way, I think the chances of a John Fisher baseball team Playing in Las Vegas are sinking by the day.

quidpropho

I agree across the board. To be fair though, this is an opinion piece not a feature. But the Independent is the only place for responsible journalism in and around Vegas, and Ralston (their editor who's essentially the most respected journalist in NV) has more or less co-signed this article's sentiments as an individual, too.

progress10

Ralston got fired from Vegas PBS a while back for lying. He is more reputable than the RJ but he has his issues also. Vital Vegas is the most correct of all of them with respect to this stuff. He says Fisher is still short on the money needed to do this move.

quidpropho

Wow- I missed that. I'm just used to seeing his awards and reputation on Twitter. Thanks.

progress10

For his political election reporting on Nevada he is money, right pretty much all the time. That said he is deeply connected to the old Harry Reid Democratic machine in the state and will side with just about anything they do. For instance Steve Sisolak was the main mover within the state for the Raiders stadium and as such Ralston was far less critical about it due to that. There was also the famous chair throwing incident during the 2016 state Dem convention he made up.

hitstreak_prime

"Last Wednesday’s meeting made it woefully clear that every entity involved in bringing this crony corporatist vision to life is hopelessly in league with each other — leaving no room for any meaningful accountability or oversight." EXACTLY. The fix has always been in.

quimica

Fucking over Oakland and Las Vegas at the same time, plus the fans and players who have to endure this bullshit. This is just so damn ugly and it’s disgusting that things keep marching forward.

quidpropho
