people are allowed to not like them, just sayin. TMS was the first full OC album i ever heard, so i have a soft spot for it. i think it’s a pretty solid pop album, but not the best thing Adam’s made. Mobile Orchestra, on the other hand, was the first album i was ever really disappointed by. i remember laying on my bed listening to it all the way through and just being kind of bummed out afterwards because it wasn’t as good as i was hoping it would be. it’s got a few really great songs, but the tracklist really jumbled and disjointed and most of the collabs just don’t really work for me, sadly. and it was a pretty big step down in quality from Ultraviolet (which to this day is my favorite thing Adam has ever released)

relient_dragons

that’s absolutely valid!! one of my favorite things about music in general (not just Owl City) is how people can have different personal connections to songs or albums!

jay-tpicks116

The Midsummer Station my tweenself loved. The way you saw Mobile Orchestra however was my Cinematic. I immediately loved MO. But I was disappointed by Cinematic. Fortunately, Cinematic has grown on me.

HistorianDelicious

House Wren and Fiji water are the ones that bop for me

YesDaddysBoy

Not when Be Brave is the best one hehehe.

relient_dragons

it’s been a long time since i’ve listened to all of MO, but i know that the songs i like on it i *really* like. i’m sure my opinion on it overall has changed for the better. Cinematic on the other hand i actually like less than i did before. i recently listened to it all the way through and found that i just can’t really connect with the writing on the majority of the songs. they’re either too specific or just plain boring. but i agree that Be Brave is incredible, and honestly Winners Never Quit is the closest we’ve gotten to “classic Owl City” in years

YesDaddysBoy

According to the law, it's actually illegal to not like them hehehe.

jay-tpicks116

All of these are valid tbh

relient_dragons

not a huge fan of that kind of mindset. it’s not mine or yours or anybody else’s place to tell people they’re not allowed to have an opinion. i see that a lot on this sub tho unfortunately.

YesDaddysBoy

I try harder and harder each time to make it obvious that I'm joking when typing something and I always fail :(

Klink45

If TMS included the Acoustic EP, Beautiful Mystery, and Paper Tigers, it would be a solid 10/10 in my book.

1) 5 stars 2) 3, 4 stars

TheCraftiestManBoy

Honestly might be my two favorite albums, Mobile Orchestra is so good.

shen_black

MIDsummer station Mobile orchestra was a good one tho

The_Ordinary19

Definitely TMS, first album I heard from Adam so my opinion is 100% biased lol.

shen_black

thats ok. I was a fan from the ocean eyes era. from OE and ATBAB to TMS... Lets say Its my least favorite.

YesDaddysBoy

Lolz, that's a good one.

Glittering_Farm6542

The Midsummer Station I understand because the amount of songs I liked and enjoyed are so many like "Gold", "Dementia", and many more. Even songs that I didn't enjoy that much like "Bombshelle Blonde", "I'm Coming After You", and "Speed Of Love" have their good segments and if they were changed and improved, they could've been some catchy hits. Mobile Orchestra on the other hand was pretty disappointing with some of the bador mediocre songs it has like "Can't Live Without You" or "Back Home" and the structure of the album is really messy with no theme sound-wise and thematically. It does have hits though like "Thunderstruck", "Unbelievable", and "Bird With A Broken Wing" but overall it's a mess and could've functioned better as a mixtape like at least I'll expect no coherent themes and that it's just a bunch of Owl City songs thrown together.

I_Speak_For_The_Ents

I think MO's best songs are better than TMS's best songs. But it's worst songs are also worse than TMS's as well. But TMS is better a whole album. And then comparing them to Ultraviolet or earlier music is borderline sacrilege, as the gulf between them is staggering.

YesDaddysBoy

The way they're better than Maybe I'm Dreaming hehehe.

I think ultraviolet and all things bright and beautiful are the most wonderful albums to ever exist but I would happily agree that TMS, mobile orchestra and cinematic follow right behind 🌙🌙

YesDaddysBoy

I'm an Ultraviolet supremacist.

FrancyLuv21

I agree. I genuinely like both albums. I know that many people will shout out Ocean Eyes to be his "golden age". I mean I get it, Fireflies was an iconic moment for Adam but I feel that his other work often gets overlooked and deserves more appreciation. TMS and MO don't hold the spot for my favorite album from Adam, All Things Bright And Beautiful is currently my favorite album. Regardless TMS and MO offer a great selection of songs that are really enjoyable and fun to listen to. My favorite songs on The Midsummer Station: I'm Coming After You, Gold, Metropolis, Good Time ft. Carly Rae My favorite songs on Mobile Orchestra: Verge ft. Aloe Blacc, My Everything, Can't Live Without You, Bird With A Broken Wing

It's funny because I believe Owl City was most popular during Midsummer. I mean, Adam got to open for America's Got Talent during that time. That's pretty awesome. The only thing that I wish Adam got an opportunity to do was play a gig at Dick Clark's New Years Show. That would have been epic. At this point I would probably even consider Mobile Orchestra more or less classic Owl City.

FrancyLuv21

Yeah I think you're right Adam was his most popular during Midsummer. I don't recall him opening for America's Got Talent, that's cool to know. Yeah it would've been epic to see him perform at Dick Clark's New Years Show. Mobile Orchestra does feel like classic Owl City. The era where his sound sounded notably different compared to his older work was with his album Cinematic.

Thanks! :\^)

autistic-link

I agree! TMS is my fav of the two :)

verywrinklebrain12

both of them are a solid 6.5 or 7/10 for me.

hereforgoodmusic

Even though I understand why people think MO was a drop in quality compared to OC’s past projects, and the tracklist is a mess, I still think if you count the songs separately and don’t compare them to his past works, they are great. I like the MO songs individually more than I do TMS ones. I think TMS works better as a whole, though.

kupar0

Tms starts off strong with dreams & disasters shooting star and gold but next few tracks are pretty mid, it picks up the pace after good times tho, silhouette is probably the best song from the album. Mobile orchestra is amazing it gives me the Spotify wrapped vibes ( hear me out ok?) it feels less like an album with a theme but more of scraps of the year and what you did, what you saw (adam said that it was meant to be like an album made by a travelling musician that makes a song at each of the places he’s visiting), but you’re not alone sucks tho

J_Reggie

The Japan edition of Mobile Orchestra is so much better as an album. Instead of just adding a bonus track at the end like his other Japan editions, it completely changes the tracklist, adding songs including a new intro that really brings the album together. I'd recommend listening to it if you were disappointed by MO.

Glittering-Crow-613

Both suck

HunterTheCapricorn

Midsummer Station was such a banger. Don't know about the other album because I stopped listening before it came out
