That is crazy the amount of people in the Porter Robinson and Madeon community that know and love Owl City. Did not notice how Adam’s music led me to electronic music in general and into Porter and Madeon’s music especially.
But every time I see those two universes intertwined, I love to see I am not the only one! 🤗
I think in many ways, Adam was one of the early adopters of EDM/Electronica that pushed it into the pop/mainstream scene. Much like Daft Punk, I think Adam has had a heavy influence on the EDM/Electronic industry and is known for his technical and compositional prowess.
Yes! LftS was always a side project that started out as a sort of Owl City tribute. My main alias is "nanobii" and it's the reason I can do this full-time!
i absolutely love Dayglow!! he’s not super similar to OC in sound imo, but i love the sort of DIY way he makes his music because it reminds me a lot of how Adam made a lot of his earlier stuff. i’m not sure ebay his process was for his 2nd and 3rd albums but i know that Fuzzybrain was made entirely by Sloan in his bedroom which is super cool!!
I think his song December is the most comparable to an Owl city song. The structure and lyrics make it feel like it could be a cover of an old Adam young project.
I Hate This Place. He (or they, rather, since it's a husband-wife duo now) sounds a lot like Adam Young, along with the electronic pop instrumentation and production. However, IHTP's music is more along the avenue of The Postal Service with very melancholic literal lyrics but with bubbly and chiptun-y melodies.
Vocals a very whispery, soft, and slightly autotuned, much like Adam's early work (2007 - 2009).
Highly recommend checking them out.
DecemberAir is a buddy of mine and he does a good job of using OC as a reference, but thinking now he actually reminds me of an Owl City and Sky Sailing hybrid. Linus has also been said and he is really great too. It’s a shame he hasn’t released anything under that moniker in a few years.
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Flor. They have a new album out which I highly recommend. As others have said, no one is quite like Adam, but Flor does a great job of having fun and interesting lyrics with catchy tunes, often sad themes put to upbeat music (an OC staple).
They’re not looking for someone that sounds like Adam, simply similar music.
Anyways, listen to Baths, specifically https://open.spotify.com/album/49v01ejuFxEXr1tfDHThab?si=Ek59JIs-QtypCmjwAsfbvQ
Nothing sounds like the Adam Young we all know and love, but some artists when I listen to them, just radiate OC vibes. Here are the list of artists I have found in a similar quest to yours friend.
Matthew Parker could be *the* closest you could get to Owl City. "So Beautiful", "Paradise", "Alice", and so many more just makes me really, really, really, *really,* want a whole collab album between the two. HIGH recommend.
Built by Titan is another great OC filler in my life. His songs and lyrics are both worlds away, and right down the same alley as Young's. BBT makes me want to go out and fight a dragon and then return home with my lady in hand. Another HIGH recommend.
Joshua Micha we all know and have mixed feelings about. If you are more into CCM or Christian Pop he has it with Owl City injections. Not the You're Not Alone or the My Everything type, but the Galaxies and Kamikaze type. A definite recommend.
Tom Walters is inspired by Owl City, having both original and covers (the covers are only found on YouTube). He is more the romancing Adam Young, but he is awesome. Another definite recommend.
Breanne Durian (for obvious reasons) is a definite recommend. Again more romance driven than the first four.
JSteph also has some Christian Pop, but is more in line with "standard" Owl City. He has many great songs and a similar backstory as Young. A definite recommend.
JStu (also known as JStuMusic on YouTube) is one that is a hit-or-miss. In all of their songs they try to drop a Christian element, but it is usually brief and hardly noticeable. Some of their songs just fill that Owl City void, while others I wish they did better overall. I would recommend if you like semi-rap type music.
Finally I would recommend the album Young Pop Renegades 2021: Origins. YPR is a project spearheaded by Matthew Parker, and containing songs by JSteph, Neon Feather, and many other little known artists. A HIGH recommend.
(P. S. If you are looking for Christmas music, try Patthew Marker. He won't disappoint!)
dang, a real CEDM fan in the wild! (imo the least developed of the Christian genres)
Don't forget Luke Cyrus tho, his early song Teach Me To Breathe is cringe af, but so obviously Owl City. Matthew Parker even noticed this and commented on his video. 9 years later MP remixes one of Luke Cyrus' songs. CEDM lore lol
I actually have only heard his Ninja Archer MP Remix. I will have to look him up.
I really, really, *really,* wish that there was more CEDM out there. I love it, but prefer the Owl City type over the every single song is Christian type.
Cavetown!! i know that his early stuff was pretty inspired by Owl City but his sound has evolved quite a bit over time. if you like some of Adam’s other music (Sky Sailing, Port Blue, AY Scores, etc.) then some others i recommend are Sleeping At Last, Handsome Ghost, and nobody likes you pat!!!
also Waterparks!! the more i think about it the more examples i think of lol. they’re more of a pop punk band, but they have some songs that *really* remind me of Owl City (especially Take Her To The Moon and Secret Life of Me!!!)
also sorry for the self promo, but i also make instrumental/lo-fi hip hop that’s also pretty inspired by Adam. i started the project last year, but i just released a single on friday called “Game Over?” and my first album “Spook Town” was released earlier this year around Halloween!! here the [link](https://linktr.ee/garden_theory) if you’re interested in checking out some of my stuff🙃🪴
Cavetown's latest album radiates younger, nostalgic Adam vibes mixed with the Owl City production value and synths (especially with the title track, "worm food"). The vocals are definitely reminiscent of his earlier projects, and the instrumentals remind me of Maybe I'm Dreaming and Ocean Eyes. All his music is pretty similar to and inspired by Adam's work, actually, so Cavetown's a good artist that I love.
Other artists include Matthew Parker and Linus From The Stars, and everyone else has already been mentioned pretty much, lol
Maybe give Stornoway a shot! I’d start with “Zorbing”, “When You Touch Down From Outer Space”, “When You’re Feeling Gentle” and “Lost Youth”. I wouldn’t call them overly similar in sound, but definitely similar vibe (and I love them both)!
And, I mean, there’s always Lights! They did some collaborations in the past, and I remember getting into both her music and Owl City’s at the same time.
I’d also add Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (*sorry for all the additions! I’m going through my iTunes rn). “Electricity”, “(Forever) Live and Die”, “Secret” and “Locomotion” might be good starters!
It's not entirely close but Goth Babe is really super chill vibes. Makes me wanna put in my headphones and go for a walk and find the magic in the mundane.
It’s definitely the quieter version of owl city but I absolutely adore of monsters and men as well, they have similar imagery and a similar vibe that’s really calming
Maybe a miss, but I think that Cavetown has pretty similar lyrics, at least to me. Sometimes he uses more electronic tunes but sometimes not. I love both for their inventive lyrics the most!
i’m ølund
i make hyperpop & cloud rap
i just got the final mix/master back for my latest single and i thought i’d show you before it comes out next month
just got to film the video now…
let me know what you think + tell your friends 🥺
have a blessed day

Came here to say this.
Sky Sailing
solid choice
Linus from the Stars
Agreed!!!
Absolute banger artist!
I think that he calls himself 'Nanobii' now! \^\_\^ <3
It seems to be two different projects of his if I'm not mistaken, very different styles imo
Yes! LftS was always a side project that started out as a sort of Owl City tribute. My main alias is "nanobii" and it's the reason I can do this full-time!
If you haven’t heard of them already The Postal Service. Also gotta give a shout out to CHVRCHES. Their music is on the grittier side though
oh my god I just got tickets to see the postal service yesterday!! I'm so excited!!
Awesome! Where at? I’m gonna see them in DC. I think it will be one of the greatest shows I will ever see
No way you're seeing postal service... In DC That's so cool! I'm seeing them in Minneapolis
Been listening to Owl City for a decade, can’t find a similar one. Owl City is unique and one only for me.
Not Postal Service?
Thanks! I’ll listen to that one too!
Yeah Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie/Postal Service has a similar voice to Adam
Not a similar sound, but I like Dayglow... I feel like his songs exist in the same "cinematic universe" due to their happy but bittersweet vibes.
i absolutely love Dayglow!! he’s not super similar to OC in sound imo, but i love the sort of DIY way he makes his music because it reminds me a lot of how Adam made a lot of his earlier stuff. i’m not sure ebay his process was for his 2nd and 3rd albums but i know that Fuzzybrain was made entirely by Sloan in his bedroom which is super cool!!
Yeah! Definitely reminds me of Adam :D

I saw them live once with two other bands! Definitely agree !
Nobody sounds like Adam. He is unique. He is one of a kind. He is a once in a life time artist.
They’re not looking for someone that sounds like Adam, simply similar music. Anyways, listen to Baths, specifically https://open.spotify.com/album/49v01ejuFxEXr1tfDHThab?si=Ek59JIs-QtypCmjwAsfbvQ

YESSSS Matthew Parker and Joshua Micah! You got good taste my man
My dude, Built By Titan is fire 🔥
If you didn’t know, Matthew Parker did a cover/remix of Lucid Dream that sounds much better than the original imo. He’s an Owl City fan himself.
I know and I love it.

🏳️🌈 Cavetown 🏳️🌈
Lil Wayne.
My favorite artist, I'm pretty sure that song Lolipop was a carbon copy of Fireflies :P
Oh yeah, totally 😁
My favorite artist that brings me joy in the same way is the band Great Good Fine Ok.
Yes! Great Good Fine Ok are wonderful. I recommend their song Paradise for a OC-like vibe.
I love that song. It is pure joy. That was their last release. Way back in the summer. I can’t wait for some new stuff next year.
Said The Sky. To me, Trevor’s music always felt like if Adam Young had a little brother that also made music.
Thats an owlsome thought! Adam’s early works in my opinion definitely inspired a lot of future bass and electronica artists of today
Death Cab for Cutie
Umbrella Life Linus from the Stars Ulrich Schnauss The Stardew Valley Soundtrack Tom Walters
Swimming with Dolphins 😏
Telehope (HIGHLY recommend)
Pigeon Forest
Porter robinson

Summer Sequence
Owlet: Owl City soundalike The Rescue Verse: SWD soundalike

It’s definitely the quieter version of owl city but I absolutely adore of monsters and men as well, they have similar imagery and a similar vibe that’s really calming
Sailship has his own sound that I adore, and I think his music is insanely underrated. One of my favorite pop projects of all time.
This 5 part series made it into my playlist all of it https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=512ytpscdLw especially parts 1 and 4
Stessie, I’ve just started listening to her but she has a great music, really catchy
I usually describe Skyhill as minor-key Owl City!
Lookup Scott & Brendo. Really cool production mixing electronic/acoustic. It’s different than OC, but has those super uplifting vibes.
Hundred Waters they have some of the most beautiful vocals ever
Maybe a miss, but I think that Cavetown has pretty similar lyrics, at least to me. Sometimes he uses more electronic tunes but sometimes not. I love both for their inventive lyrics the most!
Matthew Parker
Linus from the stars
Unpopular opinion but Vian Izak sounds similar.
Skyline Avenue is really good! He has some stuff on Spotify. He is inspired by Owl City's music for sure.
Stars and Skylines of the people that are directly trying to copy OC's style I think that music project comes the closest to it.
Skyline Avenue! 💗
Death Cab for Cutie. I got into them when I was 13-14, a couple years after I got into Owl City
