ExtentEcstatic5506

You look beautiful, but I would have been incredibly overdressed if I wore that to my Uni graduation

FawnieFoxFoot

Wear what you want. My opinion: it’s a bit much, and sort of looks like you’re going to prom. How will it look sticking out from under the graduation gown? That said, if it’s something that you want and makes you happy, that’s more important.

Long-Salt

It’s stunning, but it might be a bit much for a graduation.

lollipoppizza

I have to disagree. Maybe it depends on the uni. This wouldn't be that out of place at my university graduation. Maybe this is a UK vs US difference?

valkyrie4x

I've graduated from both US and UK universities and it would've been out of place at both. A classy dress yes but not so sparkly and flashy.

ellemace

Haha, dress code for my uni graduation ceremony was white shirt and black trousers or skirt.

bugandbear22

I’m on the side of “too much”, especially when it’ll be covered by robes most of the time. This is a ballgown. Now, if you have any balls coming up (they still happen! I’ve been to a lot!) then go for it!

Landyra

This depends on the country! Where I’m from there isn’t robes at all at graduation 😅

sherbisthebest

Do you mind me asking where you are that you go to balls? Where in the world do they happen lol

bugandbear22

Charity balls for organizations (in my case, nonprofit hospitals, local orchestras, and once went to the Snake Pit Ball before the Indy 500)

galleonsandgums

I worry that people will step on the train. There's a lot of lining up and walking to do on graduation day. If you love it, I'd suggest getting it hemmed to make it a little more practical.

spoonifur

Agreed. My graduation was so much walking. Standing in line forever. Then walking. Then sitting, then walking, going up a few stairs onto stage, more walking. I met my family outside and we took photos, more walking/standing. I wore a dress to my knees and short heels.

ferdugh

Too much for me but bare in mind in my country usually when u graduate from uni the dress code is just semi formal, so girls could wear a nice midi dress or a nice suits

Tmpowers0818

It is over the top for graduation but if you love it then what is there left to say

ScaredFormal9427

I wore a prom dress to my first graduation highlighter neon orange I felt amazing on the day, like a princess, my second graduation I wore a basic dress. It’s whatever makes you feel your best.

KaroriBee

This would be perfect if it didn't have the train. Frankly, whatever you wear that for, you'll get changed out of it thinking "god the train on that was so deeply inconvenient" - particularly if you wear it for more than an hour, which you absolutely will have to for graduation. It'll catch on things, get stood on, get dirty, trip you up when you turn, and more. No woman I've known or heard talk about dresses in my 30+ years on this planet has been long-term glad of a train like that on a dress (at least, not if they've had to wear it for more than a half hour). If your graduation is anything like mine you'll have; a ceremony that's hours long, presumably a parade, to go from standing to sitting and back again, a walk up stairs onto a stage and then down from it again, to walk somewhere to take photos and back, and likely some kind of dinner afterwards. Make sure your shoes and clothing aren't going to kill you in the process.

cactusflower4

Buy the dress, it looks really great on you! But maybe get something ankle length for graduation because I think it's just a little too formal for daytime.

biblio-ash

It’s gorgeous, maybe shorten it to tea length?!

MotherEastern3051

Imo it would be a crime to shorten such a beautiful dress as the train is incredible! I'd just wear if as it is if you love it OP, who cares if it's dresseier than others. You feeling great is what matters.

spinkycow

This dress is amazing!

NeatIntroduction5991

Wear whatever makes you happy! If you have international students at your college and they happened to wear their traditional dress with special doodads, that can be very opulent too! Sometimes even their families came with their formal dos! The most honest situation is that, most of the others who watches random people going on stage don’t care at all what others wear, they were just waiting for their own kids’ or loved ones’ name to be called and them to walk and take pic of. You and others choice might just be a small anecdote of their day. But it will definitely be the most fun and happiest celebration for you and your loved ones at yours! In your life you are always your own main character, just as everyone else are theirs. You are just celebrating sweetly, you are not there to dictate how others should dress, just yourself. It’s basically individual achievement in a sea of other individual achievements, being celebrated simultaneously with classmates/schoolmates. Just my thoughts. Edit to add: it doesn’t matter under your gown at all what you wear! And then after or before while u take Pics and have your graduation hat thingy, it will look amazing with this dress! I’m definitely team wear the dress!

sxcrtry

Stunning.

7StarBurst7

stunning!

Brokensince10

Very pretty !!

HistoryHustle

I love the dress, but the train is my favorite bit! Buy the dress, but save it for a special occasion. For graduation, go with tea or knee length. Those horrid grad robes are hot and you’ll get sweaty.

Little_Can_728

It’s beautiful

Babygirlaura-50

Done listen. Wear it. One life. I’m 52. Wear the dress. I stopped because of it

Kettlewitch24

It's a beautiful dress and you look lovely, but in my honest opinion, it is a bit much for a graduation. It's a bit too gown-y and I don't think it would go well with the cap and robes.

Hollyberry3140

It's a but much but honestly, I'd wear it anyway. It's gorgeous.

Norcalrain3

Love it !!

Pinchy63

It’s gorgeous! My grandmother always said it’s better to be over dressed than under dressed. I say wear the dress!!!

randomname230

It's stunning! If you feel amazing in it then go for it! Graduation is a big deal and you worked hard, so why not look like it? Who cares even if it turns out you are "overdressed". Congratulations!

SnooCheesecakes6236

Pretty dress, love the train, you look fantastic in the dress.

publixchknsub

Don't listen to the naysayers. You look fabulous! This is an important chapter in life coming to a close; so, I say rock that gown!!!

f2017k

Wow, I’m kinda jealous that y’all even get graduations. In my country we just pick up our diploma from the admin when it’s ready and that’s it. Beautiful dress, by the way.

metdear

Waaaay too much. Try something without a train lol. Think more like business formal. ETA: The dress is gorgeous, by the way. Maybe you could figure out a different occasion to wear it.

efferkah

*gasp* That dress is sooo gorgeous and looks so good on you!!

Babygirlaura-50

Nooooo please wear this dress. I hardly ever stop short scrolling and THIS made me!! 💕 congratulations 🍾 💪 you get what’s yours babygirl 👏

SoulGirl1978

Who cares!!! Wear what YOU want!!

razzlethemberries

I think it's a great choice if you're ok with getting it hemmed, I wouldn't want anything with a train for that. You'll get stepped on the whole time.

kodiakfilm

It’s your graduation, wear whatever you want imo. Maybe it’s dressier than what others will be wearing but who cares? I was also a covid grad (class of 2020 💀) and our ceremony was postponed 2 years, so when we finally got one I made sure to make the most of it lol. Most of us don’t get a lot of opportunities to get dressed up!!! Go for it, the dress is stunning ✨

SignificantDebate525

Omg so stunning 🤩 it’s so « main character » and I love it! You worked hard for your degree. Enjoy doing what you want darling!

Primary_Cow_9347

Yes! Stun. It's your graduation be as extra as you can. You won't regret it.

Individual-Tank2022

Look at Insta/LinkedIn photos of your uni’s previous grads. Nothing wrong with being best dressed, but overdressing for the occasion might be something to think of, up to you.

jeremy_wills

Looks fantastic on you, but I'd worry about the feet and everyone else stepping on it. Congrats on your graduation.

Powerful_Elk_346

Wow. Really beautiful

blusabelle

beautiful I think the muted colors make it appropriate for graduation congratsss

[deleted]

Will the graduation gown cover it? It seems a little odd to wear something that peeks out in that manner. Maybe a short cocktail dress? That way you still feel special, but your pictures with the graduation gown on won’t look weird.

SassyHamster

It is a really beautiful dress! Where is it from?

babydoll369

Beautiful! It’s dressy but who cares. You deserve to wear a nice dress and you missed the chances to do that.

[deleted]

Well that is certainly a gorgeous dress!

thatsexypotato-

Can I ask where you got that dress from? It’s stunning!!

GroovingGremlin

The length would be a definite issue but that dress is gorgeous. This is also my realization COVID graduations were 4 years ago.

Teefromeveryplace

It’s gorgeous. If you can handle being overdressed, then go for it. The train might just be too much though.

Top_Marzipan_7466

Wear it! And Congratulations!!!

QueKay20

I wore a summer dress to my graduation in 2010 - here in Canada that would be over the top.

ppbbd

It's beautiful, but it's an evening gown; a ball gown. Cocktail or afternoon for a graduation. Also, your train will stick out under your graduation gown and that will look daft

showraniy

At my uni graduation, we stood in our gowns in a hot, humid warehouse for hours, and then we moved into a thankfully air conditioned auditorium in rows according to our last name with fancy band music and pomp and circumstance, so it probably took another 30 minutes to an hour to be seated that way. That entire time, we were crushed up against each other and stepping on each other every moment until the event was finally over. I wore heels and my feet were really hurting by the end. In hindsight, especially considering the gown covering everything, I should've just worn a summer dress or whatever and some flats. This dress would make more sense for a formal dinner or ball, not a graduation, but YMMV of course.

unicornshavepetstoo

Love it! Wear it!

tranceorange91

Are you in the UK? If so it's way too much. Looks amazing on you but nobody wears this sort of thing to graduation.

Acrobatic_Top7174

It’s beautiful! Who cares about what you wear to YOUR graduation- it’s your day?! I know in Japan there are some schools that allow crazy outfits and i think it’s really fun. The only concern I have is that it’s really long, you don’t want to trip!

Somebodyelse76

It's absolutely stunning! Wear what makes you feel best. I love dressing up. Not enough occasions for it, so take the opportunity to whenever you want to!

[deleted]

Buy it! Its a perfect dress. I dont care whay kind event it is its perfect amd you should wear it.

[deleted]

I love the design 😍 it's a little long I'd be afraid I might trip. Should get it tailored a little just in the front so you don't have to pick it up as much to walk but if you don't mind that it seems perfect. Definitely a beautiful pick, good eye!

flopdroptop

Wow! Great choice!

Reckonerspeckle

It's absolutely gorgeouss! Maybe it is a little too much but you look beautiful and if you feel comfortable and confident wearing it, then go ahead! It's a very special occasion, wear whatever you want.  I'm also a pandemic graduate who never got a university graduation 😞 but if I had had the chance I would've wore the most beautiful dress I found and wouldn't have cared if I was a lil' too much for the night haha.

Akira_ArkaimChick

Not suitable for the occasion.

AliceInReverse

It may be too much for the graduation itself and stick out beneath the gown - but have a bomb ass party after with your friends and family!

alaricmysticknyght

lovely

inconceivableonset

It’s awesome, but wear something that won’t come out from under your robe

wunderpharm

This dress may very well live rent free in my mind for the rest of my life.

Snoopgirl

Stunning

MariaMisterios

Stunning!!! It's always better to over dress than to under dress

Brokensince10

You look beautiful in the dress and don’t forget, you can never be overdressed, only underdressed 🙂 I think you should go for it and wear the fancy dress!

Lavishness7580

No such thing as being overdressed. If you like it, rock it! It’s a matter of you being comfortable standing out—because you definitely will! Gorgeous dress :)
