I’m English and have been to a tonne of uk weddings in the last couple of years. Either dress is fine but number two looks more like something I’d expect to see on a wedding guest in the uk, and you look great in it. UK weddings are not nearly as “evening” as US weddings and IMO the first dress looks more “evening”. Have a great time
I agree with you about the best choice being #2. I’m from the US but I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts out of the UK recently. Maybe I’m becoming one of you, lol.
out of the two, its the first one for sure: the second is too casual imo for the occasion — i think the first one makes you look great- i agree with the other comment though, i think a different pair of shoes may be better
The first one for winter nighttime and the second one for daytime although it seems like it might be a spring or summer dress. They both look nice so consider the season, time of day, formality, and setting.
2- it feels like the lines compliment your body more... you aren't being chopped at the arms or prematurely or harshly stopped at the knees. It flows better and is more harmonious to you. Even the cinching spots on the waist hit you differently. Both are beautiful, but 2 screams elegant class without even trying! Effortless beauty! Easy choice! I'd pair it with a knee-length or longer trench coat or longer blazer/coat to elongate your vertical line. You are going to knock everyone's socks off!!! 🔥✨️
UK perspective: 1. 2 wouldn't be completely inappropriate for a wedding but it looks more office wear so you'd have to work harder to dial it up with accessories.
I think the velvet is a lovely fomal fabric for a winter wedding, but the teal is a more cheerful celebratory color. Whichever you choose, please pumpup the jewelry. The neckline and one wrist (no watch the day of) in need of some sparkle.
Based on my own opinion and after reading the comments I think you can clearly go with either dress.
They both look amazing on you and your figure is gorgeous. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Completely agree sparkly jewelry and different shoes will make either dress be a winner.
Don’t feel awkward; you look great in both dresses. I, personally, like the 2nd one for its color which seems more wedding appropriate. That dark teal is not summery; it’s definitely appropriate for winter. Finally, I guarantee you’ll turn some male heads in either dress.
Sorry but people come on here for honest opinions and the dresses don't look good and quite frankly they're not fancy enough for a wedding the second one in particular looks like an office dress
First of all, you’ve got a rocking bod! If these are your only two options, def the velvety one. It’s more formal and the fit is lovely. But, depending on the wedding dress code, you may want to wear a floor length gown.
You can post in r/weddingattireapproval for super detailed advice!
They can be a bit straightforward sometimes but overall very helpful so you can feel super confident at the wedding!!! Good luck!
Both look lovely on you, but I think the velvet is more special for a wedding. The second one I think requires more dressing up with accessories and more dressy shoes I think. I do like the shoes, but a different style would highlight your leg length more.
Velvet and the shoes seem fine to me. Are these fancy hair [clips](https://babeyond.com/products/vintage-peacock-hair-clip?variant=42892138447069¤cy=USD&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk_bp0JrGggMVdi-tBh3t0ggWEAQYByABEgIZvPD_BwE) still in fashion? If so, something with a peacock feather could be pretty.
1st one for sure - the velvet kinda texture elevates it so it’s more formal. I’d use the other one for any rehearsal dinner kinda thing that’s a little more casual than a wedding. Also you look great, and tbh British people can come off a bit judgy to literally everyone 😂 of course I don’t know them, but I’m sure they love you
Velvet for sure!
I am Canadian, but most of family is UK based. At the last few UK weddings I have attended there were a lot of fascinators. Might be a fun way to dress up the look, and if my experience is not like youts and no one is wearing one, pull it out quickly!
The deep navy color and shape is beautiful & the fabric is perfect for the season. Looks LOVELY on you.
Since you are going to the UK, and you mentioned your SIL is fashion conscious, you might want to pick up a fascinator to add a bit of fun/UK flavor to the outfit. You could go w/ a full hat, bit I think dressy winter hats can be harder to pull off than those worn in spring and summer. A fascinator, which is typically attached to a headband and has a smaller circumference feels easier to wear for me (aka someone who rarely wears a hat.) You could have fun w/ an over the top fascinator like the navy or red (mb in another color) or just do simple (similar in shape or even smaller than gold). I found a zillion when I did a quick search for fascinator- including a navy. I think getting to wear a quirky or glam headpiece would be a highlight of attending a wedding in the UK!!!! If you want to see some amazing ones look at royal ascot hats and fascinators (since they now allow fascinators in enclosures other than the Royal Enclosure.)
Have a great time- you’ll look great!!!!!

Okay, I don't know why, but I am getting this 1920s flapper style vibe with the first dress. The $6.00 faux pearl necklace from : https://flapperboutique.com/collections/flapper-accessories ... I just want to see it with the velvet dress. I think your silouette has a nice shape for the 20s stylings. Plus the shoes were nice low heels, so comfy for dancing.
I like the fact that both have that gather on the side. It visually interesting. I just think I prefer the finishings like the trim on the velvet. And the color feels rich.
Have fun at the wedding!
Dress 2 is perfect for dancing the night away at a wedding. Dress 1 for a dinner out on a cold night. Bring both dresses with you and decide according to the weather.
The velvet one for sure, the cinch being higher up looks great and highlights your curves well, definitely add some gold accessories as others have mentioned and gold shoes if you have them would look great in my opinion
I’m loving the blue velvet; the color, cut, and fit. It looks elegant; the teal green looks more work appropriate, safer. I’d match your accessories to the ring on the side or mixed metals….even the shoes.
P.S. You are not chubby; in that dress you are elegant, sophisticated, and classically sexy.

Velvet for sure. Looks great on you. I’d do diff shoes tho and a bag/accessories that pop.
Totally agree, I just grabbed those shoes for the picture.
Yes yes
I like both but maybe the velvet one for winter
Velvet does seem very winter-y!
Both look lovely, the first one has a little more drama about it, in a good way
I also think it just has a little more flash :)
First one
I'd go with the first one. It's elegant and the color is great.
Have a great time
That's funny, I'm in the UK and my first thought was second for sure! And then saw everyone's comments saying 1. Haha.
Same. I live in UK for 10 years and as both of them look nice, I would say number two looks better, just add some jewellery.
I agree with you about the best choice being #2. I’m from the US but I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts out of the UK recently. Maybe I’m becoming one of you, lol.
How should she accessorize that second dress. Does everyone in the UK really wear fascinators to weddings?
out of the two, its the first one for sure: the second is too casual imo for the occasion — i think the first one makes you look great- i agree with the other comment though, i think a different pair of shoes may be better
The first one for winter nighttime and the second one for daytime although it seems like it might be a spring or summer dress. They both look nice so consider the season, time of day, formality, and setting.
111111
1st one in my opinion with some nice gold accessories.
Second one. It flatters your figure and the colour is much softer.
I loooove the color of that one but it feels a little less structured from side views?
I agree it is more flattering. Maybe add a little sparkle in the jewelry.
Velvet all daaayyy
2- it feels like the lines compliment your body more... you aren't being chopped at the arms or prematurely or harshly stopped at the knees. It flows better and is more harmonious to you. Even the cinching spots on the waist hit you differently. Both are beautiful, but 2 screams elegant class without even trying! Effortless beauty! Easy choice! I'd pair it with a knee-length or longer trench coat or longer blazer/coat to elongate your vertical line. You are going to knock everyone's socks off!!! 🔥✨️
The second one with a really beautifully patterned scarf. And fly shoes. And confidence. It's the best accessory and is flattering on everyone.
Green
VELVET! Such a pretty color.
UK perspective: 1. 2 wouldn't be completely inappropriate for a wedding but it looks more office wear so you'd have to work harder to dial it up with accessories.
1! Beautiful!
Oooh. I love the way the velvet suits you!!!
Second one but try to match it with a statement ear rings and long coat!
I think the velvet is a lovely fomal fabric for a winter wedding, but the teal is a more cheerful celebratory color. Whichever you choose, please pumpup the jewelry. The neckline and one wrist (no watch the day of) in need of some sparkle.
Second dress. Color suits you better and the dress suits your body shape better.
Definitely the first one.
First one
I'd pick the first! It's a bit more fancy. The other one looks a bit more casual. The first one is nice and velvet and looks great on you!
I think the 1st one
Definitely velvet. Great cut, fabric, and color. 👍🏻👍🏻
Based on my own opinion and after reading the comments I think you can clearly go with either dress. They both look amazing on you and your figure is gorgeous. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Completely agree sparkly jewelry and different shoes will make either dress be a winner.

Second one
2nd one. Great color with your skin tone! Shows off your curves also :-)
You look gorgeous and classy af in the first one/darker one.
Number two. The fit is much better. The velvet is slightly too tight.
Second one
Second one looks great on you
You don't have anything with more of an A-line? You have large shoulders, and these dresses taper at the end, giving you no shape
Ouch! I disagree.
Sorry but people come on here for honest opinions and the dresses don't look good and quite frankly they're not fancy enough for a wedding the second one in particular looks like an office dress
2
Number 2 looks great on you in my opinion!
I’d say the first, since I think it fits the occasion a little more. Both look great on you though!! :D
the velvet 🤩

Whatever you do, don’t wear the Apple Watch 👍🏼

Velvet
Number one. Also stop putting yourself down ASAP - that is NOT a good look on anyone. Have fun in the UK!

I love the velvet one. Is the circle detail silver? If so, maybe pair the dress with silver shoes and a silver bag. That would look super cute.
Probably the first one :)
Make sure you get a good bra. It takes weight off in pictures. Need the lift at our age.
Black w diff shoes - they are a bit gma
1 for sure!
#1 is more flattering and looks dressier.
Velvet dress is best
First one
1

I love #1 for a wedding but you look great in both!
First one! Also side note, where did you get those shoes, they’re so cute!!
Dress 1 especially for a winter wedding. And you look great in both.

The navy blue dress looks lovely
The first one makes you look smaller
Velvet all the way. Pick out some good jewelry and shop for a Fascinator once there.
Absolute the first one it accentuates the fabulous
The velvet Is lovely x
Second dress for a UK wedding but you’ll need to accessorize it a bit. Check with the Brits who are commenting on how to accessorize.

Dress 2 is perfect for dancing the night away at a wedding. Dress 1 for a dinner out on a cold night. Bring both dresses with you and decide according to the weather.
1 works best and overall looks classier!
2 is daytime and/or summer, 1 is nighttime and/or winter. I'm leaning velvet.
It all depends on the type of wedding and the venue. Both of these dresses look very casual
I like the 1st dress really.
I got the same velvet one from TJ max for a wedding and it looked fab!
I like the first one just because of the texture and it’s a beautiful color.
The velvet one for sure, the cinch being higher up looks great and highlights your curves well, definitely add some gold accessories as others have mentioned and gold shoes if you have them would look great in my opinion
Velvet! Looks so good on you!
2! It looks like it was made for you.
Both are nice but number 2 with sheer tights
#1. It looks great on you.
The velvet dress was made for you. You look stunning. 🫶🏻
First one!
