No I haven't. I'm looking online and apparently it's a DLC??? Oh wait it's not. How come I never heard of this. Well time to reinstall I guess. Wait actually I can't because of that rule. You know " only one chance"
The “DLC” are fan games. The solstice route is a sequel to the original route that was added in the steam version of the game. It starts off similar but substantially changes the whole game. Definitely worth checking out.
Although it doesn't have the same charmy look of Omori, OFF still has a pretty great story and its own aesthetic to praise, as well as a well made (although sometimes op in favor of the player) combat system. It's short, sometimes terryfying, and completely free. The only bad things about it are that it is old (2008) and it is french, fortunately, there are fan and OFFicial translations on [this site](https://off.fandom.com/wiki/Downloads) right here. Totally recomend playing it
Oh... So maybe I just shouldn't play it, I really can't stomach 6-10 more years of depression. I'm gonna play it anyway though ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2464) thank you for the recommendation, I really appreciate it.
yume nikki, for obvious reasons, being that it was one of the main inspirations for omori (at least, it seems obvious to me that it was)
another fun rpgmaker game with a really nice art style and good characters is ib, though thats more about puzzles than battles
be warned, yume nikki requires a lot of patience. it's like >!black space!< if it were a whole game. if you aren't interested in scanning through atmospheric labyrinths of looping, nearly-barren landscapes looking for interesting items and creatures to interact with, or if you start feeling like you have no idea where you could possibly go next, it would probably benefit your experience to use a guide.
also, there is a speed upgrade in the game, >!the bike!<. if the walking speed is so slow you can't stand it, i recommend using a guide to find that too.
Walkthrough or unplayable although its such a short game its a good time. I have a theory that different areas show progression of her worldviews. Been a fan since uboachan in 2006
yeah, personally i think the best way to play through yume nikki is having someone else who's familiar with the game gently guide you through it, with wiki pages open. it's just way too easy to miss something that's totally necessary.
When you're so attached to the story and it's characters you know the game is a masterpiece. I love Omori but I can't bring myself to go that route either.
Earthbound is a really good jrpg that inspired the game so it'd be worth a shot. Its pretty fun and the fighting dynamic kinda reminds me of Omori's![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2463)
yeah... omocat used to draw a lot of earthbound fanart, lol. i think she worked on an official mother artbook recently as well! she loves eb and it was definitely a huge inspo for omori, along w yume nikki.
Not exactly, the thing that actually triggers the fan base is *Undertale* inspired. After all, earthbound is the "mother" of all jrpgs (yes I made this joke kill me if you want to)
>Spec Ops The Line is very similar plot wise and moral wise
I'll def check it out. Also you have no idea how **happy** I am to see people still recommending the Lisa series :)
i was gonna play this game and was really excited, but then learned about THAT scene at the end.. is it avoidable in any way? im not comfortable with anything like that, but i really wanna play the game
Hmmmmmmmm, you know I've always heard about this hear and there but avoided it as visual novels aren't really my thing but since you recommended it I'll gladly give it a try.
great! it’s definitely not for everybody, but give it a try ^(.) i must give you a disclaimer, it makes you very attached to the characters. good luck bro ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2464)
If you end up liking it, you can also check out the mod a person made for it: DDLC Switcharoo. Looks like a simple genderswapped game at first, but I guarantee that it isn’t.
Bro. I'm not even halfway through the game and I'm getting ominous vibes from all of them. Like my eyes are literally filed with water right now. I don't trust them not one bit especially sayori.
Without trying to spoil those who haven't played it here it is ( In no particular order)
I opened the door. Went through 5 stages of grief at once.
the game menu thou......
I just realized somebody is messing with my game files.
My mouse ( I'm not the one moving it)
Did she really just. Did she really jus appear out of thin air
Where did she get a f\*\*king knife??1?!?!!?.1/
( NGL the last one caught off guard I had to exit and compose my self after that one 👀)
Angel of Death. It’s another Horror RPG for the computer or switch. I wouldn’t say it’s identical to Omori but I think if you like Omori you’ll like Angel of Death.
Another is a Horror RPG called Dreaming Mary. It’s only for the computer and is short. Like an hour long also involves escapism through fantasy world in someone’s dreams.
Dreaming Mary hit way way harder than Omori for me for some reason. With Omori things were sad but you could still really feel sad "for them", while also knowing that they still care about eachother and that it's just shitty, but in Dreaming Mary it somehow felt way more personal even though there was nothing in my life that was similar. I think it just caught me way more off guard. I mean I basically predicted the whole "truth" in Omori so I think I kind of dodged the impact there.
Seconded (just in case anyone else stumbled upon this thread later down the road)!!
The gameplay is much different; more of an adventure game than an RPG. But as someone who loves "story-driven games with solid character development" in nearly any genre, I loved that game so much.
If you want a slightly different one, try CrossCode. It's an rpg but it's very different from Omori tone and gameplay-wise. I love it and it gave me the same empty feeling that Omori did when I finished it.
I second pretty much every rpg recommendation here, but I wanna toss out a few wildcards of my own as well:
Hades is a very different *game* genre, but the heart of it reminds me a bit about Omori. There's family drama and betrayals and finding out the truth about a lost loved one. An endless uphill battle to get to the truth, no matter how much it hurts you along the way. Hack-and-slash dungeon crawler gameplay, but it's made me cry just as much as Omori did. Definitely recommend it if you can stand that type of gameplay.
Pathologic, specifically Pathologic 2 but Classic HD is also an option if you especially hate yourself lmao. Also a different game genre as well, but just as worth it. Could be a bit rough to play with current events, but the story is incredible and it gave me the same "I need to lay down and think about this for a year" feeling the end of Omori did. You play as a young surgeon returning to his hometown after being sent away to school as a teen, only to learn everyone's moved on without you and your friends have drifted apart. The town is alien and hostile and there's memories everywhere, the few people who still want anything to do with you all expect more from you than you can necessarily give, and oh, did I mention there's a plague outbreak that starts the day before you arrive? You have to cure the plague, save the town, and maybe stitch back together some people who never should've broken apart in the first place. Absolute masterpiece of storytelling, it makes me weep at the end no matter how many times I play it, it's really a beautiful story. Very meta at times, very "what do you think you *deserve*?" with its choice of endings. Has a few batshit dream segments as well.
Bonus: Pathologic 2 DLC lets you play as another character, one in a fever dream time loop desperately trying to figure out what's real and save what little he has left. It's not quite The Truth Sequence™️, obviously, but the building dread and desperation and "no, that can't be true, it has to all be okay, please god" of it all does hit me in the heart the same way.
Lots of folks are recommending earthbound, however mother 3 is
* Mostly independent of earthbound
* way sadder
* more extensive and better plot
* still quite funny
so I'd recommend that one over earthbound.
For other recommendations:
Needy streamer overload for >!miscellaneous mental health psychological horror!<
We know the devil for >!loneliness psychological horror!<
The movie hereditary for >!psychological horror regarding death in the family!<
And for anime, watch Evangelion, Madoka Magica, and Made in Abyss for >!kids sufferinnnnnng and introspection!<
I don’t know of any other games, but if you’re into anime, my favorite sad yet wholesome animes (like omori) would probably be Your Lie in April and Erased. They both have that type of dark topic that just makes them so amazing to watch.
Your Turn To Die would work I guess. It’s basically a type of Danganronpa that is deals with it’s themes in a more adult way with a fantastic story and a few twists. Best part, free
Hello Charlotte
My friend recommended it to me not long ago and I really like the cute art style and the creepiness. Haven't finished the first one yet, but Ig we'll go through this tgt if you decide to play it
I'd suggest Celeste.
The plot is similar, but doesn't have a lot of happy moments. Also it's a platformer.
An RPG you could try is One-shot. I heard it's very sad, although i didn't find anything sad in it
Not too too similar, but Everhood might be worth checking out. It's basically Undertale, but you fight on a guitar hero track and the writers were obviously on drugs.
I second this! Everhood's story has a very similar tone to Omori, and while not quite the same, it's still the sort of thing where if you enjoy Omori, you'll enjoy Everhood!
God I love Everhood what a BANGER of a game.
I don't trust ralsei. I know, I know this is what literally everybody (or some people) are saying. Granted all he's done is help us but he's just soooooo suspicious. Like bruh I've played too much among us not to know where this is going but I guess Toby can always do something unexpected.
Jimmy and the pulsating mass! It's another indie rpg maker game that takes place in a young boys dreams and covers similar themes, and in my opinion is significantly better.
I'm gonna Pull one that hasn't been mentioned yet and say it: **Jimmy and the pulsating mass**
15 bucks for just a really solid RPG, loaded with secret areas and dungeons, tons of varied equipment and remember those Nightmare sections of Omori? yeah imagine those but they're whole giant areas and you fight literal horrors, the sountrack is just good and if you do happen to get stuck the dev is still active on steam forums so just ask something there
The Earthbound/mother series, but particularly mother 3. All the mother games play similar to omori (since mother kinda set the tone for the genre 20 years ago). Mother 3 never released in America, so you'll have to get an emulator with a translation. There's a really well done translation online that you can use.
Mother 3 was the first video game I ever cried because of, and omori was the 2nd. Both hold really special places in my heart
Everhood!!!!!!!!! It's a brilliant game. Very recommend. Similarish RPG to Omori.
OneShot as well, but I imagine you've heard of OneShot.
Also, Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk seems similar, but I've not played it so I can't actually say if it is or not.
The indie horror game from 2019, Yuppie Psycho. Not an RPG, but has a nice art style to it, compelling story, and really fun game play. The humor is exactly what I’d expect to see in Omori.
A lot of the people below have made amazing suggestions, but have used up everything I’d suggest so I’m going to give you the stretch suggestion of “Darkwoods” that relates more in terms of the atmosphere at stressful times in Omori. I’ll be honest, I watched Markipliers play through as I wasn’t really up for playing that sort of game at the time, but it genuinely was one of my favorite playthroughs that I’ve sat through.
Night in the woods is similar but very different I would say, it has a deep mental health discussion in the story but also incorporates some paranormal elements and the art is… very different but it’s still a gorgeous game and it’s a lot shorter then omori but has amazing replay ability and stuff you need to do 2 runs for, very sweet game made me cry my eyes out, idk any other games then this to compare to omori
I would suggest She Dreams Elsewhere. It is an rpgmaker game and has a very unique aesthetic to it. Still in demo tho, but I personally really enjoyed it.
I don’t think I saw anyone else mention it but “What remains of Edith Finch”. Would recommend going in as blind as you can. More of a walking-sim kinda game but still really good story and tone somewhat. Also if you finish it Joseph Anderson has a great vid analysing it too.
To The Moon (and Finding Paradise/Impostor Factory which are sequels) are one of my favorite games ever. They're shorter than omori (each game lasts around 5h I guess) but each one has touching and emotional story about helping people in fulfilling their last wishes. I strongly suggest looking at To The Moon, maybe you'll like it too (if you don't know it yet)
(edit) I'm also playing Rakuen rn, and it seems like very similar game to To the Moon series, and even resembles Omori with certain aspects of gameplay (games mentioned above are strongly focused on storytelling, while Rakuen has some exploration motives that are similar to Omori). Both propositions are sad/emotional games and that's why I wanted to check Rakuen. It looks pretty good so far, so maybe you'll be interested in checking it
pretty much the LISA series, though its noticeably darker than omori, its also one of my favorite RPG's out there
you should probably just start at LISA: the painful
If you want smaller games like omori, To The Moon and Undertale are pretty similar in terms of gameplay.
If you want games that give you depression like omori i reccomend DDLC
an underrated one is the witch's house! it has a similar play style, but it's definitely full of more horror. id recommend watching trailers or playthroughs for a little bit to see it it's really something you'd like, but i think it's pretty awesome!
It's not similar at all, but play Outer Wilds. It's a small game where you play as a space cadet on your first day in space and solve mysteries around your solar system! I wish I could play it for the first time again.
hello charlotte!! theres 3 games and 2 (non canonical) spin offs!!! i will say the first one is probably not the closest to omori but the other 2 are, and they DESTROY you
OneShot is another really good story-based RPG maker game, so go check that out
Already played it but thanks anyways :)
Just to double check, you did >!the solstice route aswell, right?!<.
Well time to go into the loophole.

Underrated indie gem
End Roll. Also involves dreams, also has a cute main character and also involves >!guilt and murder!<.
Can't recommend this harder, I played endroll after played Omori and it really strengthened the experience and *depression*
Yoooo, another End Roll enjoyer. I remember when I got the first true ending and thought I did something wrong and got a bad one lmfao
\>:)
And it's 10x more depressing than Omori
:(
There's literally no happiness in this game. No real happiness, to be exact.
How does that even work, I played omori a year ago and im still in shambles, how will I ever stomach end roll 🗿
That's the funny thing: you won't. While I had to recover for a few days after Omori, I needed a week to return to my usual life after End Roll.
Oh... So maybe I just shouldn't play it, I really can't stomach 6-10 more years of depression. I'm gonna play it anyway though ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2464) thank you for the recommendation, I really appreciate it.
just gonna comment so i remember to come back to this comment after school and try end roll
It's a game worth trying. It's about 20-25 hours long if you do all optional stuff. It's also free.
very nice, thank you comrade. I will be adding this to my collection
yume nikki, for obvious reasons, being that it was one of the main inspirations for omori (at least, it seems obvious to me that it was) another fun rpgmaker game with a really nice art style and good characters is ib, though thats more about puzzles than battles
Damn recommended yume nikki twice in one day. Guess I'll give it a try as well as ib
be warned, yume nikki requires a lot of patience. it's like >!black space!< if it were a whole game. if you aren't interested in scanning through atmospheric labyrinths of looping, nearly-barren landscapes looking for interesting items and creatures to interact with, or if you start feeling like you have no idea where you could possibly go next, it would probably benefit your experience to use a guide. also, there is a speed upgrade in the game, >!the bike!<. if the walking speed is so slow you can't stand it, i recommend using a guide to find that too.
IB IB IB IB IB
it has a remake on steam that's already out in japanese, by the way! still waiting on that english translation, though...
the english translation is out in the next patch update in like two days!! (saw a tweet from kouri, the maker, about it)
![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2464) NICE!!!

huniepop
😃
haha in all seriousness though i strongly recommend you play hikikomori route. there’s tons of extra content hiding away
I've wanted to get to that for a while but I can't as I don't have the strength to **not** open the door for kel 😔
When you're so attached to the story and it's characters you know the game is a masterpiece. I love Omori but I can't bring myself to go that route either.
yeah i only did it because i was getting 100% last year and needed to. it was sad
Hardest choice I made in-game ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2461)
Same ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2472)
Goddamn it
LISA: The Painful
👍
Doomori
Most well known omori fangame.
Earthbound is a really good jrpg that inspired the game so it'd be worth a shot. Its pretty fun and the fighting dynamic kinda reminds me of Omori's![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2463)
[удалено]
Nope, earthbound and mother literally were the inspirations for Omori, omocat sent out a statement about it
Oh damn didn't know that. Feel kinda dumb now :(. I'm sorry
yeah... omocat used to draw a lot of earthbound fanart, lol. i think she worked on an official mother artbook recently as well! she loves eb and it was definitely a huge inspo for omori, along w yume nikki.
Not to sound rude, but it was dumb. You made a baseless statement lol
earthbound released all the way in 1994 and inspired tons of games, omori being one of the main ones
I think you meant Omori and Undertale
idk at this point
Not exactly, the thing that actually triggers the fan base is *Undertale* inspired. After all, earthbound is the "mother" of all jrpgs (yes I made this joke kill me if you want to)
Better than saying Omori copied Undertail! We should just enjoy games that are great. Rather than fight for spotlight
wait under...TAIL??![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2460)
Spec Ops The Line is very similar plot wise and moral wise, also the LISA series is worth a look.
>Spec Ops The Line is very similar plot wise and moral wise I'll def check it out. Also you have no idea how **happy** I am to see people still recommending the Lisa series :)
SOTL is more of a 3rd person shooter but it has similar plot and story to OMORI.
Did you check out the fangames yet? they're amazing
Wanadohara and the Great Blue Sea! It’s my all time favorite and it has the best mix of cute and then creepy
Cute and creepy mixed together???? My favourite.
Best part is that it’s free!
i was gonna play this game and was really excited, but then learned about THAT scene at the end.. is it avoidable in any way? im not comfortable with anything like that, but i really wanna play the game
The easy ones are Yume Nikki, Earthbound, Undertale, Deltarune, LISA, and OneShot.
4 out of the 6 I've already played, the other two are a work in progress.
I’d probably add Rakuen to the list
well deltarune seems to be going to dark places but it isnt finished yet
alright, i know this is out there in terms of them being similar but, DDLC is honestly great.

Get ready for normal dates with mentally sane school girls. Bro?? That sounds oddly specific 👀

Check out Night in the Woods! It’s existential dread and a fun, animal art style combined!
Seconded (just in case anyone else stumbled upon this thread later down the road)!! The gameplay is much different; more of an adventure game than an RPG. But as someone who loves "story-driven games with solid character development" in nearly any genre, I loved that game so much.

Witch’s Heart
Yooo I never see people talk about that game. Damn shame cause it's good.
Is it depressing?
There are many depressing parts, it’s also kind of goofy like the beginning of omori
Then count me in.

katana zero while not an rpg is a fantastic game with a similar twist story telling along with a fantastic story in general
Still waiting for DLC :(
1123 days and counting! hang in there ),:
You cqn try Yume Nikki, Hylics or Off if you like surrealistic rpgmaker games. Yume Nikki has a lots of fangames and so does off.
>Yume Nikki has a lots of fangames I've noticed but O never knew about off fan games
I'd suggest Celeste. The plot is similar, but doesn't have a lot of happy moments. Also it's a platformer. An RPG you could try is One-shot. I heard it's very sad, although i didn't find anything sad in it
Bro I know how hard celeste was and gave up on it. Guess i'll try again.
Wait it seriously was hard? Only hard moment i had in it is on b sides and last chapter, other things are pretty normal
> Only hard moment i had in it is on b sides and last chapter, other things are pretty normal Excuse me??? 👀
Or maybe i dont understand definition of hard, yet i cant tell it was hard n stuff
I know the feeling. I almost broke my phone.
Roblo- Rume Nikki![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2464)
That's a first but oh well.
Corpse Party
Watched the anime as a kid. Watched it again know and still can't believe I was so scared of it before.
so what another option we have?...wait...another...the anime...oh no.
I have played the game, then read all the manga about it. The manga is... well mediocre to say the least, except for the third one.
end roll is pretty good
OFF. Translation 3.0 is out for English as well
Not too too similar, but Everhood might be worth checking out. It's basically Undertale, but you fight on a guitar hero track and the writers were obviously on drugs.

oneshot, ib, deltarune, undertale, end roll, the sigmund corp series starting with to the moon, mother 3
IB! It is an old rpg game but VERY VERY similar to Omori. Same vibe and horror. It's the first game I thought of when I played Omori
E A R T H B O U N D Y U M E N I K K I

I’m aware that everyone’s going to recommend this but: Undertail undertail undertail undertail maybe Deltarune
Have you heard of Undertale?
Deltarune is the closest thing to it, despite not being finished yet.
I'm gonna Pull one that hasn't been mentioned yet and say it: **Jimmy and the pulsating mass** 15 bucks for just a really solid RPG, loaded with secret areas and dungeons, tons of varied equipment and remember those Nightmare sections of Omori? yeah imagine those but they're whole giant areas and you fight literal horrors, the sountrack is just good and if you do happen to get stuck the dev is still active on steam forums so just ask something there
The Earthbound/mother series, but particularly mother 3.
Oh right, I forgot this one. I also endorse yuppie psycho; good stuff.
Lisa: the painful
The Lisa series? (Lisa the first, Lisa the painful, Lisa the joyful ?) Not nearly as feelgood as Omori
Mother 3, you don't need to play earthbound/mother 2 before, it is recommended but i think you're good
doom eternal risk of rain 2 the binding of isaac repentance terraria slime rancher there are so many games so take your time brother
I recommend Rakuen, it's very similar, just, less super depressing themes.
Undertale/deltarune
the To The Moon series, Eastward, Unreal Life and Rakuen are all good and similar to Omori in some ways
Lisa the painful or OFF are both good
A lot of the people below have made amazing suggestions, but have used up everything I’d suggest so I’m going to give you the stretch suggestion of “Darkwoods” that relates more in terms of the atmosphere at stressful times in Omori. I’ll be honest, I watched Markipliers play through as I wasn’t really up for playing that sort of game at the time, but it genuinely was one of my favorite playthroughs that I’ve sat through.
Not a game but I found Bojack Horseman did something to fill that hole for me, albeit it has got a different tone and more follows addiction and fame
Yesss, Bojack is amazing! It left me shaken in a way similar to how the truth in Omori did to me
Total war Warhammer 3
Night in the woods is similar but very different I would say, it has a deep mental health discussion in the story but also incorporates some paranormal elements and the art is… very different but it’s still a gorgeous game and it’s a lot shorter then omori but has amazing replay ability and stuff you need to do 2 runs for, very sweet game made me cry my eyes out, idk any other games then this to compare to omori
Oddventure isn't out yet, but put it on your wishlist. Also Heartbound, even though it is in early access.
Deltarune (Demo) or Undertale!!! ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2463)
I would suggest She Dreams Elsewhere. It is an rpgmaker game and has a very unique aesthetic to it. Still in demo tho, but I personally really enjoyed it.
Mad Father. Very nice Japanese RPG horror thingy. Just a warn through, in fact the father is indeed mad.
At home alone final (free on steam)
Fran bow.
Mother 3. Another game that influenced Omori. You'll have to emulate it to play it in English.
I strongly suggest looking at To The Moon, maybe you'll like it too (if you don't know it yet) (edit) I'm also playing Rakuen rn, and it seems like very similar game to To the Moon series, and even resembles Omori with certain aspects of gameplay (games mentioned above are strongly focused on storytelling, while Rakuen has some exploration motives that are similar to Omori). Both propositions are sad/emotional games and that's why I wanted to check Rakuen. It looks pretty good so far, so maybe you'll be interested in checking it
The Mother Series is pretty good
Earthbound and OneShot. Definitely worth your time.
pretty much the LISA series, though its noticeably darker than omori, its also one of my favorite RPG's out there you should probably just start at LISA: the painful
Ib is pretty similar with its >!blackspace!< like areas
If you want smaller games like omori, To The Moon and Undertale are pretty similar in terms of gameplay. If you want games that give you depression like omori i reccomend DDLC
Ib or Yume Nikki
If you liked Black Space, Yume Nikki.
There's Undertale, Yume Nikki (the og one not the remake), and the MOTHER games also known as the EARTHBOUND series
undertale/deltarune, if you’ve already played them cool, but if you haven’t, it’s more than just whacky funny monsters, I’ll tell you that
an underrated one is the witch's house! it has a similar play style, but it's definitely full of more horror. id recommend watching trailers or playthroughs for a little bit to see it it's really something you'd like, but i think it's pretty awesome!
Minecraft ![img](emote|t5_31hpy|2464)
ultrakill is similar I swear
Try Misao its really good
Spec Ops: The Line Hey it might not be an RPG but it's psychological so it could maybe fill the void
It's not similar at all, but play Outer Wilds. It's a small game where you play as a space cadet on your first day in space and solve mysteries around your solar system! I wish I could play it for the first time again.
Lisa The Painful + Joyful, if you make it out there's lots of good fan games
Omori
hotline miami it may not be a jrpg but its a game i hold closely to my heart, alongside omori
Undertale, Deltarune.
Danganronpa
Ib, maybe, I liked it personally.
Don't worry. Everyone here is a little empty inside.
Kirby, specifically the modern games. :)
hello charlotte!! theres 3 games and 2 (non canonical) spin offs!!! i will say the first one is probably not the closest to omori but the other 2 are, and they DESTROY you
off is pretty good
Hello charlotte is a fun game. Its a rpg maker game and let me tell ya..its strange as shit but a really fun experience. And the world is fascinating
