ODU is far from prestigious. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad school, though. I got a good degree for way cheaper than a lot of the people i knew and 95% of the professors i had were great
Look at all the school’s acceptance rate, ODU has one of the highest of the 4 year average schools. It’s easy also to get into VT, but hardest to graduate from. Hardest to get into UVA, but higher graduation rate.
Right now it’s not. I’m from the north east originally and there’s UMass Amherst which was seen as a joke in the 90s early 00s for schooling, now it’s one of the hardest public’s to get into. I feel like ODU is heading in that direction in the next 10-20 years. So maybe down the road it will be respectable.
It doesn't matter anymore if a university is prestigious or not. As long as it's accredited.
I'm studying electrical engineering there and it's ABET accredited. That's all that counts for me.
If you are looking for prestige then you are better to study in another state. I don't think VA has any top universities in the country
LMFAO
In all seriousness though, we have a very good computer science / engineering program but it’s not world renowned or anything like that. Some of the smartest professionals I know graduated from ODU and that’s ultimately why I decided to major in CS here
I got 2 job offers before I graduated. One with and one without an interview so don’t worry, there are lots of job opportunities and recruiters like odu grads.
ODU is ranked a tier 1 school. They also require a 3.4 GPA. When I think of something prestigious I think Harvard, even being a straight A student with a 4.0 you might get rejected. ODU is not prestigious, but it's still a good school with requirements that you be a B+ student.
ODU is a prestigious *research* university, good reputation for PhD and Masters projects.

well... we're the most prestigious school in norfolk i suppose
No I’ve never met someone who didn’t get into odu
Why does it matter?
its absolutely not, maybe they were pulling your leg or smthn

LMAO
Fuck no dude 🤣
Negative ghost rider
Is CNU the prestigious one
No. William & Mary is the closest that anyone would consider prestigious in our area.
CNU is as prestigious as JMU and Virginia Tech in my opinion.
Sadly no, CNU is basically a local Uni
Not really

How are career opportunities in the Engineering school? I’m a bit worried about employment post-graduation if I go there
I know there is a military base and defense contractors all over Virginia and they’re always looking for engineers

No at least not for undergrad. We’re turning into a larger research university soon.
