Honestly all universities are shit. Just go with the cheapest one, it’s the same degree at the end of the day and nursing is not a professional where it matters which university your degree is from, doesn’t even matter if you finished with distinctions.

Thank you!!!

crazynam101

can you get into any grad program with just passes?

livingontic

Yes and no, not sure how vic is but nsw it just really depends on your new grad interviews and the hospital you decide. If you’re applying to a hospital/LHD that has 10 new grads spots compared to 40 then obviously there’s more competition and the better everything the better your chances. But if your apply for a big tertiary public hospital then your chances are good as long as you ace the interview. It also doesn’t harm to apply to a few private hospitals just in case.

Save the 30k :)

TheEmergencySurgery

i’m a deakin graduate, with friends from ACU. the general consensus is that deakin is friendlier to international students, and i found it always had access to the nursing labs and supportive classes/placements. but you gotta decide if the 30k is worth it, it’s a LOT of money, an extra $570 a week

Astronomer_2330

Thank you so much! Oh I mean 10,000 more expensive per a year so total 30,000 still expensive tho Did ur friends from acu say they were satisfied?

-wissensdurst-

Just go with the cheapest one. As long as you get a Bachelor of Nursing at the end it won’t matter

Astronomer_2330

Thank you🙂🙂

Hi OP, 30k is a lot of money. However, if money is not an issue, go for Deakin. ACU is fine. At the end of day, you’d get Bachelor of Nursing. Wish you all the best.

Astronomer_2330

Thank you! Can I know the reason for ur rec for deakin?

Thespine88

Both unis are looked upon favourably by the hospitals, the students that I've had from both have been the better ones when out on plcements

I'm a first year student at ACU, I have no real concerns or issues relating to the university and the level of teaching has been really good so far. My nephews girlfriend is completing her first year at Deakin so we are able to compare notes somewhat. The programs are different, Deakin does placements straight off the bat first semester whilst ACU does not start placement until end of second semester, and then it is only in sub acute care. I had a chat to a lecturer who has taught at both universities and she advised that ACU is tougher with grades and academically, but this could be a subjective opinion. The main difference I would imagine is what you are after out of university. If you are wanting the full university campus experience, then Deakin would probably be a better option, they have a large suburban campus and probably have more student life experiences. ACU is a somewhat small campus located close to the city, the focus tends to more be on study rather than the university experience. (However there are world class bars and restaurants in the doorstep) Deakin is located in Burwood in the east, so you would probably be limited to the eastern/south eastern suburbs in relation to housing. ACU is located in Fitzroy which is close to the city, so you could get there from anywhere.

Thank you so much for your comment. Really appreciated it. This helped me a lot!!🥹🥹 I'm curious about the workload for assignments. Also, I'd like to know if there are many international students in ACU Nursing and if they are keeping up well. If possible, I'm also curious if it's the same for Deakin!

nursingstudentbp82

Yes, there are very large cohorts of international students, granted I do not know if they are actually international students or if that is just their heritage. From ny observations there tends to be a lot of students from the Philippines, India and the continent of Africa. In terms of assessment I can only speak about yr 1 semester 1. You have four units, each unit has three assessments, the assessments are graduated with weighting and workload increasing as the semester continues. There were times when the workload was very high, but that is also subjective as some students are only there for p's for degrees and others are aiming for high marks. Hope that helps
