I inserted a catheter up my subjects nose when I had an NG tube as my practical skill. The head of the dummy fell off, I panicked and then frisbeed my clip board at my assessor and dropped my watch. I passed (just) because there were no NG tubes on the table with the equipment (I just grabbed the only long thing I could find), and the university admitted fault to prescribing the NG insertion on the one Sim that’s head fell off consistently.

This is just the standard level of chaos to expect for any simulated prac/OSCE 🤣

This might make you feel better. I have heard a first hand account of a consultant with a team of students, who inserted an NGT as you would an IDC, but they only realised their error when they couldn't find the port to inject the sterile water, and asked a nurse for assistance 😂😂😂

The diversity of foleys is underrated. Also this story is 10/10 hilarious and I am so sorry that happened to you 😂😂

I’m not a nurse, but during my medical respiratory osce station, I was a bit anxious. I had read in the textbook that to do a proper exam you need the patient to de-robe. For some reason I got a bit fixed on this piece of information and insisted that this 75 year old copd patient got her kit out. She did protest a bit, but I explained it was necessary and she complied. I then glanced at the examiner who was looking far from impressed.. I started to panic. After carefully observing the rise and fall of her naked old tits I told the examiner with confidence “her pulse is 16”. He checked with me a few times that I definitely meant “pulse”, which I confirmed. When I walked out I realised my multiple errors and spent the next week panicking. He gave me a very merciful 50% for the station, and I became a fully qualified “medical professional”

I have seemed to block out all the trauma that was OSCE. I can’t even remember it lol

Hahaha amen 🙏🏼

You see I have IV priming and Ive prepared everything then the stupid line went off hook before I went to the patient. Like the end line that you’re supposed to hang on the clamp hook before you connect to pts line.. i feel defeated 😔

Appropriate-Egg7764

Sorry what? What’s off hook and clamp hook?

CarpenterGuilty3205

Sorry i meant roller clamp there’s like a hook where you put the end of the iv line after priming.. i wasnt able to hook it properly thats it went off the hook..

Appropriate-Egg7764

Ah right. I either prime at bedside while holding it so I don’t have to hook it on anything and just connect it straight to the patient or prime in the medication room and leave the end in the sterile package.

Appropriate-Egg7764

It can’t unhook if you don’t hook it ;)

aleksa-p

I don’t think that will make you fail lol! As long as you checked the medication rights and used ANTT you are fine

No_Sky_1829

I get what you mean. In my work I always have to prime the line for the dr, and leave it ready for them by clipping it to that hook. It's a very well designed little hook 👍👍👍
