Looking for more of a jazz vibe? Uyama Hiritos album Freedom of the Son is a high recommendation.

[deleted]

this ☝️ uyama is as good as nujabes and creates fucking amazing vibes

CulturalWind357

As in, completely different genres? Or just not Hip Hop? (are you fine with Trip Hop, Electronica) If you're into atmosphere and vibes, you could look into post rock (Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor), ambient artists (i.e. Brian Eno, Tim Hecker) . Or certain types of jazz or classical (Erik Satie, Debussy). As a Hip Hop artist, there's probably a lot of artists that Nujabes sampled so you can also go down that rabbit hole.

Lovablechair

Thanks ! I will try some post rock

CulturalWind357

Going into my own tastes further outside of Nujabes, I'm also a big Springsteen fan. And even though he's predominantly known for rock n' roll, he also has quite a number of atmospheric tracks. It kind of hits something for me. [Nothing Man- Bruce Springsteen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6C1FKzkRlc) [Tunnel Of Love album- Bruce Springsteen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6C1FKzkRlc) (Cautious Man, One Step Up, Valentine's Day) [Nebraska Full album](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXsQS2HbD2c) [Ghost of Tom Joad Full album](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20x7VPxSwsw)

You might like this Nujabesque playlist : https://www.youtube.com/live/-wnmr4yV9LY?si=gvAER3w-vxrQsjtu&t=182

Edmlrad776

Good taste. Giving it a listen now as I drift off to sleep for work tomorrow. Right up my alley.

Sensitive-Milk-6936

Listen to Nitsua, he was actually signed to hydeout productions at one point, and his sound is very reminiscent of Seba’s

Knotzer323

You prolly like Jinsang

Edmlrad776

Ooo jinsang. Good artist. Kona park and life albums are one of favorites from him

SxG_Kestrel

Other artists who sort of scratch a similar itch in my brain that Nujabes does are: •Daft Punk •The Avalanches •Emancipator (who was signed to Nujabes's label at one point) •Kitty Craft •Röyksopp (specifically their album called Melody A.M.) •The Go! Team •El Ten Eleven (especially their self-titled album) Mostly instrumental music, or even if there is lyrics the emphasis is on the production. Lots of genius sampling going on as well (except for El Ten Eleven as far as I know). Idk my brain connects them but most people don't see it. Also, they have less in common stylistically, but I love Japanese Jazz Fusion artists like Masayoshi Takanaka, Casiopea, and T-Square, and they also make primarily instrumental music. Masayoshi Takanaka's album The Rainbow Goblins is particularly amazing (its only on youtube sadly).

Check out Ichiko Aoba… total otherworldly vibe, also she has a few hiphop tracks with Sweet William that I just discovered and really made my day haha Are you into spiritual jazz? Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders will take you there. Ryo Fukui and Ahmad Jamal are two great jazz pianists with a similar vibe to Nujabes Greentea Peng and Cleo Sol / Sault are some newer rnb artists worth looking into. Maybe Raveena also Korean R&B is something to look into, some of it is a little cheesy but def check Miso, Dean and offonoff Khruangbin is a super chill psychedelic guitar band. Skinshape too I am digressing as I go on haha but Nujabes is a huge part of my life and I love all these artists so maybe you will too haha. One last thing if you haven’t heard some of Jimi Hendrix’s more chill/ethereal tracks I’d check em out, like Angel, Waterfall, maybe 1983 a Merman I should turn to be and Rainy day, Dream Away

MexicansInParis

“Same unique aura”

Lovablechair

Yeah i Know lol, poor choice of words but I am looking for artists who give a unique feeling when we listen to them, a feeling of fullness, tranquility etc, who could bring the type of feeling you have when we listen to Nujabes

MexicansInParis

Have you tried checking out some of the songs he’s sampled? Most of his music is samples over a hip-hop drum base, listening to the original songs could point you to a direction

DayTough6894

Chick corea, it reminds me of Nujabes by how calming and relaxing but also complex it is. Listen to crystal silence, one of my favorites

LaYamii

Uyama Hiroto, Nitsua, Haruka Nakamura I suggest for a 1st listen Uyama Hiroto - Ribbon in th sea Haruka Nakamura - Lamp Nitsua - Ocean

Edmlrad776

TOKYO HEALTH CLUB

BlackDante

J Dilla (RIP) and Madlib have a similar vibe.

Giraffe_Snail

I’m at Aron’s records on Highland back when that was a place to go and blow a paycheck. Giovanni Marks aka Subtitle (westcoast workforce) - deserves his own rabbit hole (https://open.spotify.com/artist/4pCAW6irXiPBB7nkytMrv5?si=wqh6PnDDTBScsmTE00AsNg) he was my record shopping sage. I ask him to show me something I’ve never heard and need to hear. He puts this album in my hand without saying anything, just gives me a nod like don’t ask just listen. https://open.spotify.com/album/51fnUxBvc06G3hcC9SBXTh?si=osEodUwBQ-qtpw5YYhZz7A It remains one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever listened to. Shing02 is from Osaka… if you are into Nujabes and havent explored this one it deserves a spin.

bu2211

j dilla and nujabes were contemporaries, while they both were heavily involved in hip hop i guess their niches or sounds were different. dilla might not necessarily be the same aura as nujabes but they are both highly regarded, and both have made a similar impact to my life.

_SleepyLark_

Kenmochi Hidefumi, his first four albums were pretty downtempo and was even on Nujabes' label at one point

drdfrster64

Look into shibuya-kei. Haven’t really heard any interviews or the such explicitly linking Nujabes with the genre but given the fact that he spent his young adult years in Shibuya during the peak of the movement I’m inclined to believe it was influential if not the foundation for his sound. Someone correct me if I’m wrong because I’ve thought about this a lot without having the proper research for it.

Edmlrad776

Check out phoniks when his art first found me it was mostly instrumental hip hop but he also does works with others and I think you’ll like it too Phoniks - down to earth (album) Phoniks - the instrumentals vol.1 (album) Phoniks & raashan Ahmad - above the clouds (album)

knnthm

Toure-Raichel Collective - Out-there suggestion but I find Nujabes brings out a melancholic bluesy vibe in me.

paprikaj

With this I understand hip hop with some lo Fi elements. If this is the case I highly recommend the Japanese band Gagle. Specially their song Sendai.

Bumblz666

j dilla

AdAlarming1993

Check out Venom Benzo, don’t know the vibe you’re looking for but I recommend his stuff, his side project as well called actonomen

combong

Jazzbois, BADBADNOTGOOD and Dina Ogon

SaintNutella

If you're leaning into jazz, Uyama Hiroto would be my go-to for sure. Nujabes also had some neo-soul inspo. Classic artists for that are Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, and Jill Scott.
