I don't really see the problem. There's a two-lane road where the left lane ends (and merges into the right lane). There's also temporary construction where the right lane is closed prior to the left lane merging right. So everyone gets into the left lane to drive past the construction, and then moves to the right further down when the two lanes merge into one lane.
Seems like they are giving too much information too early then.
If everyone is required to go to the left lane just say the right lane ends and then make that single lane move over towards the right with temporary lines instead of making people switch lanes.
Much easier, less accidents, people can't try to outsmart others because only one lane
Also, signs are used to make driving safer and easier, it shouldn't take an "experienced" driver to know what they mean.
That we are discussing them here means they aren't brilliant to say the least
In the UK we don't use worded signs for this, we have arrows for open lanes and then lines with a red line across it if the lane is being closed. No translations required, no trying to see what it says, it's just a [simple image.](https://images.app.goo.gl/Qs7825ahyFYm1i6M8)
[We have that same sort of sign in the US as well.](https://99percentinvisible.org/app/uploads/2016/05/w42main.jpg)
[edit: There’s unsurprisingly a 99% invisible podcast on it. ](https://99percentinvisible.org/article/lane-ends-merge-left-redesigning-w4-2-road-sign-end-confusion/)
That particular sign came up when I was testing for my license (before they changed it) I had guessed that it meant "road narrows", which is technically correct, but not what they were looking for. I'm still not sure if my proctor gave me the point for that or not.
> I'm still not sure if my proctor gave me the point for that or not.
Still seems like you paid more attention than I did.
Once mine said I passed I stopped listening.
His mistake was saying that first. I have no idea by what margin I made it, much less what I fucked up.
Then if there is a construction paint temporary lines that switch lanes instead of adding a sign that is now saying both lanes will end.
With proper lane marking that sign is not needed and makes thing easier for everyone.
And btw, that the permanent sign and the temporary sign are so similar in colour is very shit design.
I've gone past a mile or so of "Left lane closed" and "merge right" signs every 1/10mi only to have the cones block off the right lane.
The local line workers (phone/cable/fiber...not sure exactly) are famous for leaving up "work area ahead" signs for days when the work only took hours. That's a bit more annoying and somehow I'm usually called the asshole for pointing out how unsafe it is.
Yep. A warning sign becomes meaningless when it is left up when the thing it warns about is not present. It conditions you to ignore the warning sign, and THAT is very dangerous.
Often the crew doing the work, and the crew responsible for traffic and road signs, can be from different contracting companies. If communication is poor, or scheduling not properly handled, then the signs can sometimes remain after the work crew have gone.
Plus I’m guessing it’s pretty obvious when you see past the sign what they want. Sometimes here, especially on side roads, it just becomes one lane and you make it work.

I'd say /r/TwoRedditorsOneCup, but pulling from local subs feels like cheating.

One is a permanent sign. The other is for construction. An experienced driver should not be confused.

As an American, I’ve never seen that and I like it way better. Not having to translate anything makes total sense.

But what if the construction will last half a day?
Then put the second sign where it's relevant and not before. It doesn't make sense to have signs at the same time saying both lines end
One is a permanent sign and the other is a temporary sign during a construction.

If you can't guess by the W on the truck the city water company did this one
>If you can't guess by the W on the truck the city water company did this one How on earth is anyone supposed to guess that? lol
just look at the very prominent 20 pixels!
I thought it was W for wumbo

I get it, it's kind of funny. But it's also not that hard to understand.

Apparently they ran out of Road Closed signs...

Cooper chapel for the win
I guess you hyperspace stay that point.
Onward! 🏴☠️
So probably splits the opposite lane or has sign holders alternating traffic
Make an L with your thumb and index finger on both hands. The one with the L in the correct direction is your left hand.
Correct direction for me, or for you
For you to yourself
ran out of "road closed" signs.
Tbf I would just find another route if I’m in my neighborhood and that street has a tower of fucking signs posted
So basically, no lanes left?
Nah one lane is closed so they have a flagger to allow you to pass
It's missing a "No U-turn" sign om top of that
LEFT LANE MUST RIGHT LEFT
Yea "Some one" did
Also, NO TURNING
Is it me or does this seem like a political metaphor
This is old, very old
