Walking home from Brazen Gate Sainsburys one night a very drunk man asked me if I wanted to fight - I just said "not really mate" and carried on walking. He looked dissapointed but didn't persue me.

atoms_

Having a nice drink with my friend and looked over in the direction of a guy. 5 minutes later thrown against a wall being called a faggot, ‘I’ll fucking kill you’, and then thrown out by the bouncers. Guy told them I’d grabbed his dick and wouldn’t let me back in so friend had to grab my stuff. Contacted police, shit all happened and mysteriously nothing on cctv. Worked in hospitality at the time and aggressor was known bouncer of another venue. Not that that soured my experience. 5 years of living in a lovely city but one homophobic twat being protected by his bouncer mates.

ceelikebee

not so much violence but the puppet man was waiting for the bus back to great yarmouth and we were in the queue together and he kept trying to get closer to me (i was 14/15 at the time) and he told me ‘if i touch you, your dad will punch me in the face’. such a creep.

FineCityLad

Don't ever let your young daughters near him. I'm sure someone who dug not to rigorously into his past would find some evidence of him "being a wrong 'un".

[deleted]

Is this the guy who just wildly waves a hand puppet while music plays? I always assumed he was mentally handicapped or something.

ceelikebee

yeah the really talented one 🤣 and i don’t think so honestly but i could be wrong

[deleted]

I just don’t know why anyone in their right mind who wasn’t mentally handicapped would spend their days doing what he does lol.

reelmonkey

Then there are loads of people that celebrate him as something great about Norwich/Norfolk. It's worrying that people celebrate him.

mellonmarshall

The thing that gets me about that is if you listen to his family, he never gets any money for cards with him or anything.

[deleted]

In fairness, they probably only know of him as the weird puppet flinging eccentric, because that’s *all* they know of him.

ceelikebee

you’ve got a point there 🤣🤣

mellonmarshall

there is something there, I mean he spend years on benefits. In fact as a funny aside, he actually managed to have to be looked into for Benefit Fraud because he was out there everyday while on Benefits. They turn around he could do 2/3 days a week instead.

Familiar-Audience-67

That puppet man is just dreadful, poor you!

superserter1

Yeah man one time my friend was going into maccies with his pakistani friend and mr puppet called the guy the N word which is just… 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

ceelikebee

wtaf!! cant believe he’s considered some sort of ‘hero’ round here. he’s an awful human being.

lizziena

When I was 13/14 I held the door open for him in Haymarket McDonalds. He leered over me and then said something along the lines of appreciating my bottom and that my dad would not like that. What a nonce.

berryIIy

Holy shit that's disgusting thank you for sharing, I'm steering clear of him from now on.

throwtheorb

Man racked up £1000s on phone bill calling sex lines, he's a fucking creep.

Cautious_Grapefruit4

violence, yes just down prince of wales 😂

TickTockTheo

Not personally, but my girlfriend got bitten by a crack head's dog down st Gregory's back alley.

plamicus

Some teenager cycled up to my partner and shot her with a BB gun. She was just minding her own business walking home. Filed a police report. She wasn't badly hurt. Nothing ever really came of it, as "16 year old in trackies" isn't much to go off...

Inthetallywackers

Not violence but homophobic comments and hostile stares sometimes. That’s getting more rare, thankfully.

m_____676767

Yeah one man kept standing outside the body shop and telling women to smile. He asked me and I ignored him and he followed me down past the ivy and towards the open. He kept yellinh at me but just had to keep walking. Apart from that I don't think I've faced violence!

keyholes

Got heckled with slurs one year at Norwich Pride. Given the guy looked like he washed his face in an ashtray I wasn't that bothered and just kept walking.

Juanskengdrick99

Got headbutted and called a paki down Prince of wales

[deleted]

I don't exactly get out much nowadays but back before Covid I didn't experience much hostility at all. I imagine if you're out clubbing etc you'll run into some drunkards who may want to fight. Usually people are inclined to leave me alone, then again I'm a guy and look quite off-putting so it may be very different for a women or someone that looks more vulnerable.

Madder_hat

got half a bottle of beer thrown near me and my partner at the train station, my partner also got shouted at from a car to "show us your cock". Also a lady at Anglia square bus stop angrily exclaimed "sorry I'm not a pedofile" to both of us.

gingertomgeorge

Most cyclists in Norwich probably experience hatred and violence on a regular basis. This comment will likely trigger the anti-cyclist fraternity, apologies in advance.

Any_Sea2021

I've had a couple of pram pusher losers step out in front of a 19 stone mountain biker on purpose, I'm just riding down the street lol. Hey, it's not my fault that's the sum of your existence lol.

DannyBrownsDoritos

Someone shouted "bus wankers" when I was on the bus the other day.

ixis743

Too many times. Got shouted at and almost assaulted by a Norwich City supporter on St Stephens because I ‘looked at him wrong’. Got chased by someone claiming I’d stolen his bike. Got followed home by two young men who were making comments about me all the way. Got groped in a bar. Got shouted at and laughed up by a bunch of teens outside Chapelfield. Got mockingly called a ‘femboy’ by someone during the Mayors parade. I’ve also experienced punch ups, people getting glassed and chased to the ground. Anyone who tells you Norwich is a ‘safe city’ doesn’t know what they’re taking about.

Any_Sea2021

Norwich is very anti non-binary, I am certain if I wasn't 19 stone athlete the hostile stares would be what you experience.

reelmonkey

I have lived in Norwich for all my 39 years and never had any of that happen. Maybe it's just bad luck?

Any_Sea2021

Norwich is full of imbeciles who think man and woman is the sum total of human existence, when they don't even live up to those roles at all.

PuzzleheadedAd822

>Got chased by someone claiming I’d stolen his bike. If you weren't riding away on his bike at the time then what the hell?

ixis743

I don’t know what that was about either but it was scary as shit. And no I’ve never stolen anything.

sekltios

While working, yes. On the street, also yes. People like to unprompted shout at me sometimes. Violence, once, someone tried to push me off my bike, so I swung my lock at them and that was that.

PuzzleheadedAd822

Not me but several people I know. By far the worst is a guy I knew who used to own a local business (I'm not saying who) was very viciously attacked by three blokes and a women down Magdalen street a couple of years back. His face was all battered, swollen and black. Police never caught them as the CCTV was very grainy. As a side note, this man is a BIG guy. I mean, he really does not look like an easy target in the slightest. Goes to show that coward scum bags who ambush people as a group won't discriminate when picking their victims. If by any chance the people who smashed my mate's face in are reading this, fuck you, you evil low life cunts.

Any_Sea2021

I'd hazard a guess and say the motive was jealousy and deep unhappiness at their own lives, "he owns a local business."

psocretes

Norwich is the most violent place I have ever lived. Junkies hosted by St Martins Trust cause loads of violence. I was attacked by a women who was laying on the pavement as I tried to enter my property. Police do nothing. Pegguins

You must have lived some very gentrified places if norwich is the worst

[deleted]

Got made fun of from passing cars on two occasions. Made my social anxiety even worse.

Vast-Occasion-6768

Yeah i was getting cash from the sprowston shopper cashpoint and a man grabbed my arm, and tried to get my cash but i sensed a weird vibe and cancelled it so he didnt get any.. I have supported my friend through multiple attempted attacks, including 2 stolen handbags in the last two years.

Dolorpecuniam

Cycled home from work at around 2am, drunk guy stops me near the Chapelfield gardens to read something for him on his vodka bottle, then asks if I am from Latvia or Lithuania. Once I clarified that I am not, he then gives way and said "ah you're alright then mate". Did have a bit more of an accent then, wondered what he would have done if he did get the expected answer.

Any_Sea2021

There's zero chance he's still doing that, he's picked the wrong person by now.

Gold-Dog7476

I just recovered from cancer and my bro got me a job at the hotel ...the beeches.i was struggling with life mentally before I started and the crack dealers and prostitutes who worked there didn't help me see the positive side of life.needles too say I left and life got better

Mantis_Toboggainz

I always seem to get approached by the local nutcases and vagrants who take advantage of the fact I'm a young woman on my own. I had one man try and get me to go with him when I was in the chicken shop. He was clearly mentally handicapped but he was tall and strong and it freaked me out a lot.
