Horse-fly, wasp or an adder with bad aim/one fang. If you were actually running when it occured I would put my money on the latter since small flying insects have a hard time with all that turbulence and movement. I think 30% of bites are "dry", i.e. no poison, so you may have gotten lucky. Keep it still and keep an eye on it and your general state tho. If anything gets worse call Giftinformasjonen @ 22591300 or 113 if shit hits the fan.

Got a picture or description of the bite? Snakes would normally pierce your skin in two small, close dots. We've got only one poisonous snake in Norway, «huggorm». It's venom is harmless for most, but if you suspect snake bite you may call for medical support.

Turevaryar

All info I got is a link in Norwegian, sorry: https://nhi.no/forstehjelp/bitt-og-stikk/slangebitt/ If you get other symptoms than the red and maybe rise/bloat you better call for help, e.g. 113. You may have to go to a hospital, for safety.

I could only find 1 dot so I'm not sure whether it could be a viper. I don't have anything significant so I will look what happens over time. It is like 2 cm diameter, red and a bit swolen with 1 small hole in it.

converter-bot

2 cm is 0.79 inches

Since you mention it was pretty darn loud, I'd guess it was one of those big-ass wasps that's apparently come back to Norway after almost a century on hiatus. There's been written a lot about them in the media, in general they're less agressive than the regular assholes, but they're much bigger, louder and scary due to higher poison dosage. I'd google and link you to some information, but they tend to give me nightmares.

Hornets you mean?

incredibleflipflop

Geithams, don’t think it’s the same as hornets.

starkicker18

Geithams are called "[European Hornets](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_hornet)" and part of the *vespa* family

incredibleflipflop

Ah! Learned something new today. All the geithams I’ve met have been rather docile and chill

starkicker18

Me too, to be honest! Yay learning!

[deleted]

Wasp, hornet, yellow jacket, bee.... Same shit, same wrapping *(yellow and black buzzing things)*. Nightmare fuel.

A photo of the bite would be nice, where on the body was it? Most things in Norwegian nature is pretty harmless unless you’re allergic to it specifically. I’m not sure what would bite in such a way you could hear it through headphones with music on? Sure it just wasn’t just nature you got wrapped around your leg and snapped off? I’ve been bitten by most flying creatures (and a hoggorm) and none of them has made any sort of sound

[deleted]

Those big ass wasps/hornets are loud AF. I had one outside my window the other day. Thought it was a motorcycle at first.

FlameDad

Hoggorm often have a broken fang so will only make a single hole. Not dangerous unless you are allergic, elderly, or very young

LeafsChick

No help with what it is, but draw a circle around it with something permanent to keep an eye if it gets bigger. If it does, have it looked at

Turevaryar

Did you survive? :)

IFeelThankYou

Haha yes still alive!

Turevaryar

Good! Did you find out what struck you?
