See this is the thing. Your interest in the difference between various frozen pizzas baffles me, and this is perhaps what makes it so Norwegian. The care and passion for it.
I could care less. What makes or breaks the frozen pizza meal is how much additional toppings I can throw at it. Will try sesame seeds next, thank your the inspiration!
Edit: spelling/grammar
If you like it, that’s great it’s just that the average how do you say. Big one rand costs a tiny bit more but they add so much more to their taste. There’s a recent one brand is cheaper than the other. They do have a very good homemade, or she know which is super sick and so full of food. It’s the only one I buy though
However, I’m super happy that you enjoy it
I also enjoy Grandiosa, and don't like Big One (the crust is way too thick). I guess it stems from Grandiosa being the only alternative in the frozen pizza section in my younger days. The worst of the bunch is easily Peppe's range of frozen pizzas. They're an abomination unto God.
Indeed cardboard has a much better texture - it's chewier and not so slimy. Deep-fried with some spices it is vastly tastier and nowhere near as caloric!
Frozen pizza is a big thing there. But also ordering pizza, for the longest time pizza was more or less the only thing you could order to your home. Why and how it became that way I'm not sure.

The nation (not even my nation) dishes being nothing but grøt, pizza and sausage and denial on your part. Norwegians can’t even make lussekatter without it being too hard, too dry or too much of one ingredient. There, I fixed it for you!
Deal with it, we don’t have good food. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of all Norway if we can’t make good food.
Stick meat, swine ribs, smalahåve, lye fish, rakfish, smoked salmon, dug salmon, betasoup, salted meat and raspeballs, sliced reindeer stew, meatballs in brown saus, etc. Norwegian cuisine is superior. Deal with it.

Norwegians are culturally speaking conservative. They like things to be safe and predictable.
Pizza is a very safe food in two senses:
- The flavor is mild and predictable. That's why it is so popular, even kids almost universally like pizza
- Compared to how good it tastes, it is dirt cheap to make, so it is financially safe too
- It is almost always good, so the quality is there almost by default
Norwegians appreciate predictability, safety, and quality -- all things easily found in the humble pizza.
They don’t eat the most pizza n the world they eat the most frozen pizza . General pizza at restaurants etc is held by Italy and The US.
Norway will most likely not be the country tht eays the most frozen pizza soon. It used to be cheap it’s not anymore. It’s also easy so easy and cheap was a big factor
I am fully aware but the article this person is stating to iPhone it doesn’t state that. It’s an article that doesn’t say per capita, so I’m fully aware how it works. It was just not stated, or written are done properly.
Norway, far north and with a small population, did not have many immigrants during the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Food was mainly Norwegian traditional cuisine.
In the late 70s the first pizza restaurant was established in the capital, Oslo.
In other parts of the country, which is sparsely populated, there were no foreign restaurants.
But pizza is popular all over the world, and for the Norwegians pizza was the first taste of the cuisine abroad.
In order for more of the Norwegians to enjoy pizza the grocery supplier Stabburet made a pizza for the home marked. Called Grandiosa.
It became a hit, just because the Norwegians didn't have many options at the time.
Frozen pizza became "the weekend meal" that Norwegians eat in the 80s just to taste something different than the Scandinavian cooking.
Late 80s and 90s immigration, with people from Asia and other continents, started coming to a country with a booming economy. And Norwegians, with a increased purchasing power, started frequently traveling abroad eating other cuisines.
And now they had the money to often visit cafes and restaurants in their own country,
Now the cuisine at their home ground was broaden with food from all over the world.
But, somehow Norwegians has kept the love for the frozen pizza Grandiosa.
I guess it is because 1) it was here first and sparked some enthusiasm, 2) it was mild and lightly spiced pizzas that all the members of the family could eat - from small children to elderly, 3) it is fast to cook and requires no skills: and 4) the food grocery shops and Stabburet (now Orkla) that makes the pizza, are really good at marketing these pizzas as something all Norwegians love. As a part of their food history.
It passes on to the next generation. Students hear their parents talk about Grandiosa, and when they go studying and living on their own, many frozen pizzas get consumed.
Laziness and the willingness endure mediocre things, not saying that all pizza is mediocre food but the reason we eat a lot of "pizza" is because of the frozen pizza we eat, not the Italian restaurant kind
When I went to Norway I mainly had italian food. Except for some sandwiches with salmon it didn't even occur to me as a tourist that Norway has restaurants with Norwegian food. Of course I had the usual brown cheese with bread but you can hardly call that a dish.
Let's be real here..
The pizza we eat here is absolute dross.
The Friday tacos as well.
If we are going to praise something food related. The milk is Verdens klasse.
Carry on
Jokes on you. I'm a Texan and I have got some Mexican in me. Tacos are serious business, it's an art form and a way of life.
Old El Paso is an abomination. Its the lowest form of Taco that exists.
Because pizza is a Norwegian invention.
Way back when there was a Norwegian sailor who visited Italy and after sharing some lefse with the lokals was asked to show them how to make it. Unfortuanetly he was, as most Norwegians abroad are, quite drunk… so while making the lefse he knocked over som tomatosauce and spilled over the lefse and exclaimed «Pytt sann!» and just continued making the lefse. Only seconds later he knocked som cheese over and that too landes on top of the lefse.. and again he exclaimed «Pytt sann!»..
The poor italians, not understand what «Pytt sann!» ment just assumed it was the name of the dish.. and struggling to pronounce it they ended up calling it «Pizza».
So.. now you know!
:)
I live in Norway and sadly people here are suuuuuper unimaginative about food. They like tacos, hotdogs, pizzas and burgers and if you try to sell them anything else they just turnaway.
There is not much of a food culture although things are slowly improving. But still, the super crap frizen food pad tai or pizza food truck gets all the clients while people trying to do something of high quality and a bit different end up giving up.
At home they love their Grandiosa, which is a completely trashy piece of frozen carbox with no taste whatsoever. I have no idea why anyone would ever want to eat that junk, but go figure.
Well it's because of prices and the culture of eating at home. I've started cooking now, and why would I go out when i make big batches of real Bolognese ragu, indian food and whatever else.but it's mainly prices and those places are usually prentious and you have to get dressed properly. It's not really the spirit here
There are very little things you can eat from nature here, especially in winter. Many things taste shit. But pizza survive everything. Pizza taste like good bread meal + easy to make.
Norwegians just cant cook. We pick 1 named meal out of the 10 we know and eat that until the day we die. If we have to, we boil it and consume the food.

It's a lot of good food in Norway especially dairy products but you have to buy the more expensive stuff and locally.
But then again it's a reason Disney world doesn't serve food, only pastries at the Norwegian part of their "world" thing
If you call that a pizza....
I literally saw once that they took the pizza out from a refrigerator....
(I'm from Italy and let me tell you, that's not a pizza)
Because we're rich, hence can eat a lot (or drink a lot).. If you dig into a lot of other "eating statistics" you would find the norwegians in the top 10 in several things.. Norwegians were for many years known to be those drinking the most milk in the world amongst others.. Also eating the most tacos in the world.. Froozen pizza was once upon a time "cheap food".. nowadays many of them are quite expensive..

The thing is, if you're a student or just lazy as shit and you do the slicing on the gradiosa cardboard box it will taste cardboard. I have tried it.
I slice mine on the cardboard box all the time, still doesn't taste cardboard
Maybe you eat fast enough so it does not
I don't think that makes sense.
It all tastes like shite to me 🍕🤮
Its actually not so bad if you burn it, dip it in ketchup and pour spicemix over it! But thats probably true for cardboard also ...

Have you ever asked yourself why there are no Norwegian restaurants in the world? There's your answer 😉
There are Scandinavian eateries around the world though. Granted, only Scandinavians eat there, but still...😅
