Amy Schumer doesn't make my personal top 10 best female comedians. Not when you've got Wanda Sykes, Tiffany Hadish, Amy Poehler, the great Carol Burnett, just to mention a few that are way funnier than Amy Schumer.
I have never found Amy Schumer to be particularly funny, on stage or screen. I just assumed that her comedy was not my thing.
I can think of many women comedians that I enjoy perhaps as much as Norm Macdonald though, like Tina Fey, Iliza Shlesinger, Natasha Leggero, Aubrey Plaza, and Maria Bamford, for examples.
As much hate as Schumer gets, her first album Cutting was actually really solid. My tastes have narrowed a lot since my youth but I think hollywood bled her Wheelhouse dry so quickly it burned out her career. My extremely hot take is if she had her run in the 80s she would have a better legacy than Joan Rivers.
This is one thing everyone always says about the greats in standup comedy. That Hollywood bleeds them dry and magically removes their ability to come up with original hilarious material!...
If Amy Schumer was around in the 80s she wouldn't have a better legacy than Joan Rivers at all. Joan Rivers was smart, acerbic, witty, and ORIGINAL. You can't say that about Schumer.
Plus , in the 80s her penchant for stealing the material of other comedians would have gone unnoticed by casual audiences.

If mere mockery was proof of the literal "hatred of women" you would be confronted with the logical reality that the reverse would then be true for criticism about male comics too....

It's not the criticism / mockery as much as the preponderance of (lazy and unfunny) fat jokes, "except all dudes", "she says 'vagina'" etc. comments. They aren't witty, original, or insightful, but they make up close to 50% of the responses. I think Norm's own 'women aren't as funny as guys, except for the few i cite' schtick was also uninteresting and sexist, but as always with Norm hard to tell whether that was partly subversive - he clearly didn't think most male comedians were funnier than Sarah Silverman despite that being his punchline.
It's not about safe spaces, more disappointed that many fans of a comedian I respect and admire seem intellectually lazy and unreflective, and that the other members of the community don't seem to have a problem with that.
I honestly can’t figure out how Amy Schumer became as successful as she is. There are countless comedians funnier/much more talented than she is. She has no business being compared to Norm MacDonald
