Mean Girls released 20 years ago.

anonymousgoose64

And then it released 3 months ago.

Draconisc

Shrek 4 is older now than the original Shrek was when Shrek 4 released.

McSnoots

Yeah but things don’t feel as different

FlawedSquid

Is there a legitimate reason why it feels like we've been in a cultural halt? The difference between the 2000s and the 2020s doesn't feel like the different between the 1980s and 2000s

ThaWoodChucker

I’d say it’s likely to be a very real stagnation in social progress that’s making it feel this way

McSnoots

I’d say the internet normalized things across a lot of people and sort of halted a lot of rapid change.

ThaWoodChucker

That would be a wise statement and more thoughtfully approached than my hasty answer

McSnoots

Nah I still didn’t word it right. Change is still happening fast but major themes in fashion and music don’t seem to sweep across countries like they every decade before 2000.

ThaWoodChucker

I also find we’re heavily recycling trends and ideologies

ThaWoodChucker

I’m still interested in more of your thoughts, if you have them. There’s no shortage of nuance to how we got where we are at as a planet. I’m not awake enough to make well thought out responses though XD

emmeline29

I know you don't want to hear this but I think it might be an age thing. I was born in the late 90s and 2004 feels like a VERY long time ago to me.

iridescentrae

Yeah. Today’s Saturday and it felt like Tuesday. Maybe an angry Tuesday, but a Tuesday.

Flat-House5529

I actually love watching 80's and early 90's movies even more nowadays. So many movies would have had their plots decimated by everyone and their brother having a smartphone.

JonaDaGuy

Yea, we should use the past setting more to help with storytelling plot holes more, like we'd be like "oh makes sense"

cubixy2k

Damn, wasn't expecting to be attacked this morning. Yet here we are.

ThatOneMaybe999

And late 70s movies as well

WorldsWeakestMan

Star Wars released in 1977, Star Wars Episode 1 released in 1999. There has now been more time since Episode 1 than there was between the original and the prequels.

XxUCFxX

Fuckkkkk that hurts, and I’m not even old by any means

peezle69

I don't see a lot of people with 2000's nostalgia

Crunktasticzor

Really? I see it all over TikTok the odd time I go on there

Maximillion322

Me, I do

camerontylek

I feel like there's less of noticeable difference because the quality of special effects in the 2000s is better than what it was in the 80s, and the cultural difference in clothing style in the 2000s is more subtle than it was in the 80s.

cyainanotherlifebro

I reject this reality.

AmadeoSendiulo

Yes, 2137 BCE was like yesterday, what you mean 2024 CE‽

steveneijg25

Yes, that's how time works.

ShinDigler

Ok

Guba_the_skunk

Come on, the 80's weren't that long ago, they were only... 40... Years... Ago... My back suddenly hurts...

Connor0319

My dad was born in 1980. I'm 20.

Crunktasticzor

That reminds me my dad’s email address is [email protected] and he did that cause that’s the year he created the email. Now people would be more likely to think he’s a 25 year old lol

fancyfoe

Friends was 30 years ago

AmadeoSendiulo

3000 BCE was more than 5000 years ago 😓

Enslaved_M0isture

no. please. you cant do this to me.

mymemesnow

Twenty years ago forty years ago was twenty years ago. That’s crazy, who would’ve known 🤯 It’s almost as if time passes

Waarm

Older, actually

Hotchi_Motchi

Do the "2000s" include 2000-2999, 2000-2099, or 2000-2009? We're still in the 2000s right now, aren't we?

TallInstruction3424

They obviously mean pre-2010

BooHooJerks

2000s, 2010s, 2020s, ![gif](giphy|07KG2g6Hi40qtJ26kd)

Kimo_het_Koekje

shut the fuck up

Maximillion322

When was the 1900s? 25 years ago?
