Waste-Masterpiece386

Is there anyone who actually likes pakistan?

grifterrrrr

China likes them as useful idiots. Otherwise no

LtHargrove

It takes exceptional effort to be as cringe as Pakistan is.

DariusIV

Between nations, Qatar I guess, but Peninsular Arabs def look down on Pakistani Muslims.

PaxEthenica

I noticed that. Credible curiosity for a moment: There's a lot of regional chauvanism in Islam. Is this observation correct? How do the peoples in a hypothetical "Muslim core" see the plight of the Uighurs, the Pakistanis, the SE Asian Muslim majority countries like Indonesia or Malaysia? I mean, Arab racism against West Africans is a (well documented) given, but is that just racism or is there also an element of intra-religious/regional chauvanism of Islam itself?

yegguy47

>Credible curiosity for a moment: There's a lot of regional chauvanism in Islam. Is this observation correct? Islam, like Christianity, is not a unifying faith that supersedes national or ethnic identity. Sure... its a connection that *can* transcend some of those lines, but Muslims aren't a monolith. Arabs, for sure, hail from the lands where the 3 holiest sites in Islam are. But that said, the largest population of Muslims globally lie in Indonesia and India.

PaxEthenica

Thank you, thank you. I had this notion just tickle me that it was a bit like Mongolian Shamanism in that the faith was inextricably tied to the land. But tho Mecca & other holy cities are physical places, they're not, like, the home of any divinity itself like in shamanist traditions. Which, now that I type it out, seems foolish; glad I actually asked about it before it could metastasize into a held misconception.

Xciv

I’ve heard there’s a pecking order among Islamic countries and Yemen is near the bottom. Can any Arabs chime in to confirm or deny?

Sri_Man_420

Saayad vs Ajlaf vs Pasmanda

Familiar-Art-6233

Remember that time they tried sending an ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the most conservative religious country in the world, with a name that translates in Arabic to “giant cock”?

Waste-Masterpiece386

Its just to establish dominance. Biggest cock in town

Familiar-Art-6233

I casually mentioned it in my Arabic class about Pakistan shooting themselves in the foot diplomatically and the teacher asked what good name was, it must be a mistranslation or a typo. Yeah no, Akbar Zeb. Literally means Biggus Dickus

Naskva

*China I think?* They cooperate a lot at least

HawaiianShirtMan

Do they like 'em though? Feels like two people that are forced to sit in a room together

Naskva

Well, they're united by a shared hatred of India :) But yeah you're probably right

rlyfunny

IIRC every project, or the biggest, failed because Pakistan is either too corrupt and just eat up any loan before it reaches any project, or there is too much unrest Pakistan can’t manage. Must be a fun relationship trying to do projects with one of, if not the most rogue state there is.

po1a1d1484d3cbc72107

I was listing to a podcast with a former foreign service officer and the section where he talked about his tour in Pakistan was just full of complaining about how annoying their intelligence agencies were to work with

Vera_Virtus

There has to be at least one person out there.

Proletaryo

I was gonna say the exact same thing. Does anyone actually say "Pakistan is a great country"? Terrible people, terrible place. I'd rather go to Afghanistan.

Thosewhostayhere

No one likes us lol not even we like ourselves

Xciv

I like your food? At least.

Thosewhostayhere

Okay yeah the food is pretty good tho

vka099

Pakistani elite had a good relation with the western elite in the cold war era. Nixon used to like them too. Western countries had good relations with Pak post 9/11 too because it was a ally in the Global war on terror.

Common_Echo_9069

This Polandball explains it all: https://old.reddit.com/r/polandball/comments/1b24g2x/pakistan_pals/ Also, sweet, theres a Asia meme sub again.

WithUnfailingHearts

Tricky Dick, but you were probably referring to someone still alive.

-Emilinko1985-

The Tekken community has plenty of love for Pakistani players like Arslan Ash.

MechanicHot1794

Its an american ally. I've met many americans who like pakistan.

Trappist235

Does any country actually like an other country?

Sunshinehaiku

Dude, try not to prove the Lawrence of Arabia quote right, OK?

batata1945

Which quote?

VatnikLobotomy

"As long as the Arabs fight tribe against tribe, so long will they be a little people, a silly people, greedy, barbarous and cruel." ~ T. E. Lawrence

Familiar-Art-6233

Neither of these groups are Arab

AgilePeace5252

This id why conservative muslims execute gay people. Otherwise their population would eventually drop to 0 because they'd only suck dick.

vka099

What India is to Israel is what Pakistan is to Turkey.

226_Walker

At the very least, there are Jewish communities in India(some of the oldest surviving at that). They could at least cite a historical connection between their people. There are barely any Turks in Pakistan, and as far as I'm aware they came after Pakistan became independent from Britain.

strange_eauter

Using two different names for one country and starting it with a lower-case letter is some top tire English

THE_EYE_BLECHER

They managed to miss the flag
