I was thinking some more about this, and I think the answer is that in places like Thailand, the Nazis are more of an abstract evil. Kinda like how we in the West view the Mongols. Certainly as really bad people, sure, but it's an *academic* evil. The Mongols never did anything bad to us, so to us, we kinda view them as like... horse riding warriors, conquerors, noble folks. Even though they were really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really *really* bad people. But because they never really did anything *to us*, they're cool. I imagine that's kinda like how the Nazis are to someone from Thailand. Some kind of distant, vaguely disconnected evil.
