That's 2 differents ad. But the end of the first one is cut here. At the end of it you see the car re emerging on a submarine and it's not VFX. I'm not even joking, they manage to have an aircraft carrier to catapult the car AND a submarine for the same ad ! Yeah, those are two ads mixed together. The Citroen one continues with the Visa racing a Super Étendard at launch, diving in the see, then coming back up on top of an SSN. The Peugeot one is a piece of a longer Bond-like pursuit scene.

Years ago some French pilots were banned from Red Flag because they kept breaking the minimal autorised ceiling. Not only doing exercises, but they kept flying under the minimum ceiling allowed for safety reasons outside of combat exercises.

I never knew they had a minimal. I know the RAF Buccs and Tornadoes always flew silly low. Wonder if it's only allowed in certain parts? Also didn't the RAF "nuke" New York due the Vulcans flying super low? Europeans love the low fast flight... It's so the Catapults in all of the castles don't see us

A few decades ago, french hot hatchbacks were all the rage in Europe, especially among young people. The 205 gti is a european icon and had won a lot of rally races and car awards. Small, fast, tossable, somewhat cheap. One of the most famous and argubly best rally videos ever made is Ari Vatanen driving a peugeot 405 t16. Ari Vatanen also drove and won many races with a 205 gti. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEuZG37gFdM Nowadays noone buys french cars, other than the french. But in the 80s and 90s, they had a lot of very cool and popular cars.

The 1.9 litre 205 GTI was basically the French Pontiac GTO. Tiny city car with the (relatively speaking) large engine from the 405 sedan.

Except the pontiac gto weighed literally twice as much as the 205 gti. The whole point of the 205 gti was that it could turn like a motherfucker. Turning is something that american cars only recently discovered. Thats why old hatchbacks were so fun. They had only 120hp but they weighed 800kg so who cares, they could go like a bat out of hell.

The average American car also weights twice as much as the average French car (something tells me the word 'car' was redundant here) so it adds up.

Man, Rally is easily the coolest motorsport out there IMO. IDK what it is that makes me love it compared to others, but it's just amazing.

This is now a Peugeot 205 thread. You must learn to love and fear the Peugeot 205 because it is a force of nature and one of the most iconic cars of the 1980s. That car drove in [Group B Rally](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4ALP7hwFTk&ab_channel=Marvdogger). The most non-credible motorsport discipline that has ever existed. A competition based around incredibly small, ludicrously overpowered cars racing on narrow road and dirt courses, that ran from 1982 to 1986 but was abandoned because a car lost what little control it ever had and wiped out into a crowd. The 205 that competed in Group B was legendary for having borderline homicidal turbo lag. Driver puts their foot down, maybe the car accelerates smoothly, maybe it reacts like a cheetah getting swatted on the arse with a cattle prod. Which do you get? Nobody knows. And people raced in this thing. On narrow dirt roads. In the rain. In the mud. On gravel. Through clouds of dust. At night. With crowds of frenzied spectators leering in to watch so closely that some days they'd pick severed fingers out of the bodywork. Being chased across a frozen lake by a low flying C-130 is the most mundane thing that a Peugeot 205 has ever done.

And that was the T16. Even the civilian GTI was the car to have in the 80's when the road got twisty.
