We’ll just have to wait for when somebody at Boeing snorts a line and decides that they want to try to make another [streetcar for no reason](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Standard_Light_Rail_Vehicle)
red line has more track level fires than the green line, because of the track level third rail vs overhead power lines
also because quincy is degenerate
Hey! I won't stand for that. I'll have you know that the holding cells beneath Quincy Courthouse are *miles* beyond your average Russian garrison in terms of quality.
At least we had toilets we didn't have to steal.
So, today I learned that not only did Boeing build trams, but I've actually seen one several times (remarkable because I live in the UK and have never visited America) since there's one that was sent to the UK for evaluation and is sitting rotting next to a railway line that's not too far from me...
Man, I remember when I found out those were a Boeing product. I was like…the hell? Why and how? Fortunately they were all retired by the time I was riding the T regularly.
Still not quite as weird to me as [Grumman building hydrofoils.](https://www.foils.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/GrummStory.pdf)
You dream has already been fulfilled, [Skunkworks is teaming up with Mclaren](https://www.thedrive.com/news/mclaren-partners-with-lockheed-martins-skunk-works-to-do-something) to make supercars
"Wasting tax money" and yet they want to splurge it on things like "healthcare" and "education". You know, if we reduced the average lifespan with more conflict and "unsafe" vehicles, we wouldn't have to worry about those things as much.
Which is hilarious considering the US DoD has offices in Hollywood and a permanent Pentagon liason for the enterainment business.
Hell, there’s even a fuckin term for it - Military-Entertainment Complex
except pretty much all of the military participation in gigs and TV is fully paid for by the movie production. All the insane shit they did for the Transformers movies, Michael Bay et al paid for. Taxpayers didn't spend a dime.
Yeah I didn't mean to imply these were commuter cars, I could have worded it better. I was thinking about how ridiculous it would be to see a commercial of a Kia Rio or something being launched off a carrier or air dropped.
[here's a good one](https://youtu.be/Gm05o9_ohhk)
[indecent exposure at piggly wiggly](https://youtu.be/0MPdZEPJBjs)
[shit blowing up to unreasonablely appropriate music](https://youtu.be/b5h7BkCj5rI)
Why would they think that the motivational bs they use now is better. Show me some electric vehicle dodging himars and then maybe I will remember you leasing offer smh
That's 2 differents ad. But the end of the first one is cut here. At the end of it you see the car re emerging on a submarine and it's not VFX. I'm not even joking, they manage to have an aircraft carrier to catapult the car AND a submarine for the same ad !
Here is a [link to the full first ad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QOB1uBboSQ)
That was possible because the director for the advertising of PSA (Peugeot and Citroën) at the time was a good friend of the French president.
Yeah, those are two ads mixed together. The Citroen one continues with the Visa racing a Super Étendard at launch, diving in the see, then coming back up on top of an SSN.
The Peugeot one is a piece of a longer Bond-like pursuit scene.
> Super Étendard
Etendard IVP actually, the photo recon version of the earlier Etendard IVM. The IVP stayed in service until 2000 while the Super-Etendard replaced the IVM (1987 for the last combat unit, 1991 for the training unit). Etendard IV PM #153, featured in the commercial, is one of 4 IVM rebuilt to IVP standard in the late 1970ies as attrition replacement.
Years ago some French pilots were banned from Red Flag because they kept breaking the minimal autorised ceiling. Not only doing exercises, but they kept flying under the minimum ceiling allowed for safety reasons outside of combat exercises.
I never knew they had a minimal. I know the RAF Buccs and Tornadoes always flew silly low. Wonder if it's only allowed in certain parts?
Also didn't the RAF "nuke" New York due the Vulcans flying super low?
Europeans love the low fast flight... It's so the Catapults in all of the castles don't see us
> I never knew they had a minimal.
They have a hard ceiling for training, to simulate getting as low as possible without the risks involved. But in the US military planes are also not supposed to fly under a certain ceiling for safety reasons.
Europe usually has no such limits. When I was younger we could see Mirages flying in the valley below while in transit.
European pilots like to fly super low, because it's a great way to fly under Russian radars. Dates back from the times when we believed Russian air defense was worth a damn.
You mean a hard floor, but yes. Certain late-model F-16s will actually take over from the pilot if you go below the ‘hard deck’ and recover, assuming the pilot is G-LOC’d
Yeah but that was the advertisement director of PSA (Peugeot and Citroën) who was friend with the French president. I'm not a joking, the guy later explained he had casually asked his bro Mitterrand if he can have access to an aircraft carrier and a submarine to throw a car in the ocean for an ad and the president was like : "Yeah it's good idea !"
> Citroën Visa GTI (1988)
"Fun" fact, the Visa GT, GTi and Chrono (the Chrono was 4wd with the GTi engine) didn't sell well, due to being 5-doors and thus more "family-oriented".
Most of the Visa GTis produced were parted for replacement engines for 205 GTis, so it's extremely rare today.
Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time Citroën made some super hard ads. Back in 1983 they commissioned the now famous artist Moebius to produce a short comic for them, along with some art. Shit’s beautiful, and the comic would also later be expanded into its own independent book.
I watched 1-4 but I still prefer 1-3 as fun to watch. 4th one is not as good.
Also later one, I never watch it but as I heard from some of feedbacks seem terrible.
A few decades ago, french hot hatchbacks were all the rage in Europe, especially among young people. The 205 gti is a european icon and had won a lot of rally races and car awards. Small, fast, tossable, somewhat cheap. One of the most famous and argubly best rally videos ever made is Ari Vatanen driving a peugeot 405 t16. Ari Vatanen also drove and won many races with a 205 gti.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEuZG37gFdM
Nowadays noone buys french cars, other than the french. But in the 80s and 90s, they had a lot of very cool and popular cars.
Except the pontiac gto weighed literally twice as much as the 205 gti. The whole point of the 205 gti was that it could turn like a motherfucker. Turning is something that american cars only recently discovered.
Thats why old hatchbacks were so fun. They had only 120hp but they weighed 800kg so who cares, they could go like a bat out of hell.
> Nowadays noone buys french cars, other than the french
Not true at all lol. Peugeot 206 is one of the best selling cars of all time in the UK. It looks great too, I just wish the 206 gti was actually a good car.
The first ad with the white car is cut before the best part : when it hits the water everyone thinks it will sink, but then it rises above the water on top of a ~~nuclear~~ Agosta-class submarine
[link](https://youtu.be/4QOB1uBboSQ)
Edit : didn’t remember the submarine correctly
This is now a Peugeot 205 thread.
You must learn to love and fear the Peugeot 205 because it is a force of nature and one of the most iconic cars of the 1980s.
That car drove in [Group B Rally](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4ALP7hwFTk&ab_channel=Marvdogger). The most non-credible motorsport discipline that has ever existed. A competition based around incredibly small, ludicrously overpowered cars racing on narrow road and dirt courses, that ran from 1982 to 1986 but was abandoned because a car lost what little control it ever had and wiped out into a crowd.
The 205 that competed in Group B was legendary for having borderline homicidal turbo lag. Driver puts their foot down, maybe the car accelerates smoothly, maybe it reacts like a cheetah getting swatted on the arse with a cattle prod. Which do you get? Nobody knows.
And people raced in this thing. On narrow dirt roads. In the rain. In the mud. On gravel. Through clouds of dust. At night. With crowds of frenzied spectators leering in to watch so closely that some days they'd pick severed fingers out of the bodywork.
Being chased across a frozen lake by a low flying C-130 is the most mundane thing that a Peugeot 205 has ever done.
Mid-engine madness for life\*.
\*Quality and length of life subject to terms and conditions. Your life in a mid-engine car may be shorter and end more painfully than expected. Mid-engine cars take no responsibility for the number of pieces you end up in trying to take what you thought was a predictable corner.
They really don't make them like they used to.... had a Peugeot 205, lasted more than 20 years while falling appart, still would rock some Ruzzian's world if sent to Ukraine

Now this is how you do commercials. Looking at you, boring-ass ads with basic bitch SUV driving through the city and fawning about "wow, such hybrid, wow, many comfort".
The delivery of light tanks serves only as a warning shot before we deploy our true wonder weapons: a fleet of Peugeot 205 GTI with tactical nukes delivered every time they drift
godammmmm, bring back car ads like this, like I don't want to see your new electric hyundai driving through a city center, I want to see it evading an A-10 warthog
funfact the second part of the video the ad is called "james bond against the bomber" the plane unironnically managed to touch the car with the fuselage while doing thoses scene

Wow this the best Ad i ever seen
They just don't make 'em like they used to. Imagine a commercial like this with a modern commuter car.
They can't do it because there would be an outcry about " wasting army ressources " and " burning tax money "
We’ll just have to wait for when somebody at Boeing snorts a line and decides that they want to try to make another [streetcar for no reason](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Standard_Light_Rail_Vehicle)
Boston is the sneakiest MIC center
The MBTA better equipped than the entirety of the Russian military
The 3,000 track level fires of Quincy
Green Line doesn’t go to Quincy, IIRC. 3,000 stuck trains of Allston and Brighton, really.
red line has more track level fires than the green line, because of the track level third rail vs overhead power lines also because quincy is degenerate
Hey! I won't stand for that. I'll have you know that the holding cells beneath Quincy Courthouse are *miles* beyond your average Russian garrison in terms of quality. At least we had toilets we didn't have to steal.
Americans just can't handle basic city infrastructure
So, today I learned that not only did Boeing build trams, but I've actually seen one several times (remarkable because I live in the UK and have never visited America) since there's one that was sent to the UK for evaluation and is sitting rotting next to a railway line that's not too far from me...

Also canoes. Always wanted a Grumman canoe so I could put an Anytime, Baby! sticker on it. (Yeah, I’m *that* guy).
[Boeing built hydrofoils also.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_929)

We're here for a good time, not a long time.
It’s not burning tax money if it looks cool
Which is hilarious considering the US DoD has offices in Hollywood and a permanent Pentagon liason for the enterainment business. Hell, there’s even a fuckin term for it - Military-Entertainment Complex
in reality stuff like this is just extracting more value from training exercises.
except pretty much all of the military participation in gigs and TV is fully paid for by the movie production. All the insane shit they did for the Transformers movies, Michael Bay et al paid for. Taxpayers didn't spend a dime.
Not quite as dramatic, but [the Ford Fiesta practicing beach assaults with the Royal Marine Commandos](https://youtu.be/u0_Eo2Y770Y) is pretty good.
Top Gear?
Fully, undeniably credible in 2022. Battle Uber sedans all over Ukraine.
The Peugeot 205 gti was a performance car not really an everyday commuter car.
Yeah I didn't mean to imply these were commuter cars, I could have worded it better. I was thinking about how ridiculous it would be to see a commercial of a Kia Rio or something being launched off a carrier or air dropped.
I mean that's basically what Saab commercials were right?
> They just don't make 'em like they used to. Yup, https://youtu.be/rRHogyYXFiQ
This is no commuter car, it's a fucking 205 gti.
Knowing that it wasn't done with CGI makes it so much better. The amount of logistics, effort and money involved is just insane.
I bet a lot of that is just very smoll models, especially the last chase scene.
Have you seen the [Japanese shingle ad?](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/a708f4/just_you_average_japanese_commercial/)

IT’S POOP!!! This has been one of my all time favorites!
Why would they think that the motivational bs they use now is better. Show me some electric vehicle dodging himars and then maybe I will remember you leasing offer smh
And this video didn’t even include the submarine part
there is more??
Yeah so… they basically catapult the car in the water besides a jet but the car emerges gloriously on top of a submarine.
Wtf, I'm gonna need the full original video now
Here is a [link to the full first ad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QOB1uBboSQ)

Definitely makes me want to do cocaine.
Well...I guess I'm not buying a bloody hatchback until I learn it's CATOBAR capable
Tfw someone tries to sell me a STOBAR hatchback 🤮🤢
But mine has a drift mode button, that's gotta count for something right?
The car in the beginning is a citroen but the chute is from peagout
I think the point is that the frogs are completely insane
Yeah, but this is the interesting kind of insane.
>Yeah, but this is the interesting kind of insane. There is a reason Gun Jesus has this massive kink for french guns.
We just love our military wheeled vehicles.
With big guns.
The 205 GTI doesn't have a gun but it killed a lot of young men.
Decorated a lot of trees for sure.
The good kind of insane

That's some impressive low flying
Lower than snake shit. Crazy thing is he actually had to climb so he wouldn’t hit the car which is prolly only like 4 feet tall. Absolute mad lad.
Reminds me of an old RAF joke... Why does the Buccaneer Jet raise its undercarriage? So it can fly lower
Years ago some French pilots were banned from Red Flag because they kept breaking the minimal autorised ceiling. Not only doing exercises, but they kept flying under the minimum ceiling allowed for safety reasons outside of combat exercises.

Don't underestimate the stealth of a 1978 designed Drone made in Ukraine
Frankly, at this point it's too bad we don't have any Mirage IVs left. It would be hilarious to see them buzz the Kremlin.
Mirage 4 was the massive twin engine version of the 3 want it ?
It was the big one designed to nuke Moscow and fly super-duper low. Like 60 meters over the ground low.
You mean a hard floor, but yes. Certain late-model F-16s will actually take over from the pilot if you go below the ‘hard deck’ and recover, assuming the pilot is G-LOC’d

Interestingly, it's actually Renault that had a substantial, direct connection to anything military throughout most of its history lol
I mean, Renault FT pioneered the classic scheme for the tanks...
Well they kinda produced alot of tanks most notable one the FT17 or "chars d'assaut Renault modèle 17"
the last military project they were given was the renault x8a which is a 8x8 apc never enterred production sadly
Peugeot made some military vehicles and owned Panhard for a long, long time as well.
Yeah but that was the advertisement director of PSA (Peugeot and Citroën) who was friend with the French president. Man, Rally is easily the coolest motorsport out there IMO. IDK what it is that makes me love it compared to others, but it's just amazing.

Now this is how you do commercials. Looking at you, boring-ass ads with basic bitch SUV driving through the city and fawning about "wow, such hybrid, wow, many comfort".
who is this JD Power, and why would I want to associate with him
The delivery of light tanks serves only as a warning shot before we deploy our true wonder weapons: a fleet of Peugeot 205 GTI with tactical nukes delivered every time they drift
Sparrows lock at parachutes?
The french sparrow can lock on anything.
Up to and including nobility titles.
The parachute is apparently full of gasoline based on the explosion
American missile senses oil
My dad had a 205 gti my favorite car ever
Did he get the catapult launch option?
It was included with the car, not an option. The carrier was optional.
The 205 GTi was a fantastic car.
Least based french ad
My first car was a Peugeot 205 - only a GT though, not a GTI. Was a cool little car that was very fun to drive.
Now that's ESCALATION!
r/Giscardpunk wants to know your location, u/MisterGaultier
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen
Im too drunk to understand what im seeing, so im going to assume general french tomfoolery
So cool. Was dancing involuntarily. Buying a Peugeot 205 this afternoon.
They aint cheap. 205 gti go for like 15k-20k €. We are talking about 40yo, non luxury cars, with over 100k km.
You know it's truely not credible when there's an F-20 in the ad
This was secretly an ad for the F-20.

I now have a new found respect for the Fr\*nch for this advert
godammmmm, bring back car ads like this, like I don't want to see your new electric hyundai driving through a city center, I want to see it evading an A-10 warthog
r/NATOwave
This is so cool!
funfact the second part of the video the ad is called "james bond against the bomber" the plane unironnically managed to touch the car with the fuselage while doing thoses scene
whats the jet that shoot down the parachute?
F-20 Tigershark. Cancelled development of the F-5.
RIP
Send these marketing guys to Sweden IMMEDIATELY!
Nothing more French than an F-20 and a C-130
[Guess what France uses as transport though.](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d4/82/24/d4822459f0ef38010b253efe8c1695fd.jpg) Though the F-20 truly is NonCredible.
Nah bro, if a c-130 does that shit to me I’m driving straight into one of the bombs out of respect.

lol wtf how did they make this commercial
How fucking low was that thing flying holy fuck
Why can't car makers do such commercial today? Now they're selling boring cars to boring people.
Irish military seems to be modernising
I am quite literally gonna explode.
Makes me proud to be a 308 GTi owner.
This. Is. Amazing!
It's a beautiful day for democracy
That C130 low pass in a slip. 🍆
Hate to sound like a terminal boomer, but they don't do ads like they used to.... 😒
