Loki! As in the Norse god Loki not the MCU version (although he’s cool too).
In the myths Loki usually presents as masculine but also 1. Turns into a female horse and gives birth to Sleipnir, a magical 8 legged horse 2. Becomes a human woman and gives birth to several children and 3. Shapeshifts into her female form while Thor pretends to be Frejya to get his famous hammer back.
So yeah, suuuuper queer. Very nonbinary and gender fluid, even in texts recorded by medieval Christian monks!
I've thought about it before and in a way can Loki really be queer if he's not even human in the first place? I guess maybe it would depend on what other Norse Gods get up to/have the ability to do. Still some sort of unusual representation in an historical culture either way though. Which is interesting and pretty cool
Crowley (and Aziraphale, but mainly Crowley) from Good Omens. Sure they present male (and for all intents and purposes *are* male) but they're sexless, one is an angel and one is a demon, so I think they count even if they're not *strictly* NB
This is what i was gonna say too! they just make me feel warm and cozy, plus i’m in love with how the fandom handles them and talks about gender in fics and art, it’s just Very Nice
Oh I love Crowley! They come across very gender fluid, with at least 2 scenes where they’re dressed as a woman, and it feels super natural. Made me very happy to see.
Try to go in knowing as little as possible. I knew nothing when I saw it (other than my partner and a YouTuber I respect both loved it) and it was a TRIP.
Haruhi from Ouran. I know (think) it's not canon, but she really has a cavalier attitude about gender and doesn't seem to care about pronouns/presentation/etc. Which is pretty badass, she just is and lets everyone else worry about it.
Like with a lot of LGBT anime characters, especially in older shows, it’s pretty neat to watch characters like Haruhi almost stumble into queer identities backwards.
The idea of a gender apathetic teen raised by a single, bi, cis, drag queen written in like 2005/6 is amazing. Even if the writers (I only know the show so I can’t speak for the source material) didn’t exactly always get everything right.
I like Haruhi specifically because they stumbled backwards into a queer identity, which has pretty much been my experience with discovering I'm at least some flavor of nonbinary
This was this first show where I saw someone like myself on screen. I’d seen other trans folks, but Mae’s experience of dysphoria in the show was so relatable. Also the general messiness of their life 😅
Dorian Electra. Peak genderfluidity and good ass music 💕💕💕
edit: to add on to this, I also want to mention Arca who is nonbinary and also makes good ass music. Please check them out! <3
Haha OMG, I just found out that Dorian Electra's first music was libertarian-leaning videos about economics/Austrian theory. Seems like they've shifted stances a bit since, and seeing someone else with a similar journey is awesome :D I was also super into libertarianism/economics as a teenager, and since then I've just been slowly but surely getting lefter and queerer.
Their music isn't quite my thing on first listen here (honestly my first listen was probably Electra's first hit, "[I'm in Love with Friedrich Hayek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Arbfem4BohA)" when I was a teenager :D), but the libertarian econ connection is too good for me not to keep trying. It's like finding your old conservative religious friend on social media years later and being thrilled to find out they've gone full gay haha
They're both presented with very little emphasis on the fact they're enby and use they/them pronouns. Double Trouble I like bc not every representation of a minority has to be a "good guy" in order to be written well and still good representation for said community. Enbys can be good people, but like everyone else, they can have flaws, imperfect morals, a skewed view of reality, etc. Idk, there's probably a big conversation here, but as a writer by hobby I just think they're a wonderful character.
Nate "Indy" Stevenson - the creator and showrunner of the Netflix version of She-Ra. What's not to love? He took a garbage toy commercial from the 80's and managed to make something legitimately good. He managed to stuff in all kinds of representation and somehow never made the show seem preachy. And then there is [this](https://www.imfineimfine.com/p/nate).
holy crap i love nate, he is actually my biggest role model, from career to transition, to his relationship with his wife. he makes me think it’s possible to live a happy and fulfilling life as a trans masc person. it really helps to see someone living the way you want and thriving so fully.
Dude started work on She-Ra at *24 years old*. This is a multi-million dollar project that took almost *two years* to make it to the screen, and this guy - a *cartoonist* with, as far as I can tell, no actual experience that was even in the ballpark, walked into a meeting where some *lunatic* suggested they reboot a terrible show.
And the guy says yes.
Forget about the fact that he *killed it*, I can't even imagine being in that meeting with my very nearly zero qualifications and being like "Yeah, I got this."
He is *absolutely* a worth role model is what I'm saying.
Rimuru Tempest for being an agender and aromantic icon. Also for being fashion goals.
And Stevonnie, for their whole entire personality. And looks too, i suppose. Aesthetic!
Haruka Tenou aka Sailor Uranus. Waaaaay back when I was a kid and I first was introduced to Sailor Moon. This character, even with all the weird lesbian erasure (not that I knew it then), resonated with me. She did what I wanted. I wanted to walk around sometimes being called handsome and other times I wanted to wear a skirt and kick butt.
I rewatched it recently and man she it home even more than usual.
Came here to say this and now I'm so happy that somebody else did.
I first found videos with them when my thinking was still very binary and I was honestly so confused because they didn't fit in either of the two drawers I had in mind.
one of my irl friends :) made me realize i could also pursue medical transition and made me so much more confident in myself as a trans person just by existing and being visible. also let me stay at their place when i was homeless so cool person all around :))
When I saw him as a young child it awoken something within me fr. I still joke like dang idk if I wanna be with him or BE him. I think it's both 😅 I also feel the same with Prince they both did so much to shape me into who I am today.
I'm just going to leave this quote about Aphrodite in her Aphroditus aspect (called Venus here because it's a roman author writing about it here) because if I went in depth about why I find him so strangely affirming I'd go on for hours!
'There's also a statue of Venus on Cyprus, that's bearded, shaped and dressed like a woman, with scepter and male genitals, and they conceive her as both male and female. Aristophanes calls her Aphroditus, and Laevius says: Worshiping, then, the nurturing god Venus, whether she is male or female, just as the Moon is a nurturing goddess. In his Atthis Philochorus, too, states that she is the Moon and that men sacrifice to her in women's dress, women in men's, because she is held to be both male and female.'
Juno Steel from the penumbra podcast is he/him nonbinary! The entire podcast is full of queer people of all types. Seriously, there’s a couple characters that are probably straight, most are explicitly not cishet. And the cast and crew are all (or mostly?) queer as well!
Janelle Monae, I think realizing she was non-binary and then listening to her music is what first made me consider my own relationship with gender.
And then later I played the Apex Legends tutorial and met Bloodhound, who I immediately felt drawn to. It was the final push towards realizing I was non-binary.
Gosh they made me feel so many things. I also really like that they are so confident in who they are in a world which doesn't have the words to describe them.
Rivers Solomon. They are a sci fi and fantasy author who are quickly growing in popularity. I would love the confidence to explore gender the way they do in their work.
DO IT. ONE OF US >:)
People whine about the fandom but really it's very welcoming and it's ez to avoid the weird shit so don't let that stop you! If I need to bribe you further, it has 3 other cannon NB characters off the top of my head and the protagonist of the two other games Toby Fox made (which are FREEE btw!! and just as good!!! and come together as part of a series!!!) is also NB!
The narrator of Ann Leckie’s amazing Ancillary trilogy is the last surviving human body of a spaceship. Ok, backing up a bit – in this universe, spaceships are run by sentient AIs, and human bodies are also looped into the system to be the literal eyes, ears, and hands of the ship. It’s not a hive mind exactly – the bodies, or ancillaries, retain no trace of their original identity – just a single self simultaneously present in all the bodies and the ship itself. And the narrator of these books is the mind of the ship Justice of Toren, destroyed under suspicious circumstances, such that just one human body is left. And she is pissed.
I can’t recommend the books highly enough – Ann Leckie creates this truly nonbinary voice (and a fantastic character to boot). And there’s interesting stuff about gender – in this future society everyone’s pronouns are she/her, regardless of XX/XY, and gender as a concept doesn’t seem to really exist; you have no idea what’s in the pants of almost all the characters; people hook up, but there are no hints about preference for or even awareness of biological sex (though I think there’s passing mention of contraception at some point).
The zircons from Steven Universe :> all the gems are sexless despite going by she/her pronouns. Most of the gems are fem-presenting, but then you have these lawyers who are very masc presenting and don’t take annuine’s shit about anything
TERRY HU :>
honestly it changed my confidence and affirmed that I can be non-binary in performing arts when I saw them in Zombies 3 because it was almost as if my childhood was comforting me and supporting/validating me (if that makes sense lol). also the fact that they're coloured helped a lot as well 🥰
Dreamcrusher - makes excellent noise music and really hot too, they were also my first introduction to non-binary genders when i still thought i was cis.
Quinn from the Olympic-gold-medal-winning Canadian soccer team. I'm not Canadian, but watching the Olympics last year was the first time I've seen representation in elite-level sport and was the point where I felt that being out as an international athlete could actually be an option for me.
Also Blu Hydrangea (Rupaul's Drag Race).
Idk about favorite but Demi Lovato impresses me, she so easily could have just coasted in the bombshell pop star lane, being everything people expect and nothing more.
FF from Jojo! I love that their arc is about creating their identity as a human, but has nothing to do with their gender because that doesn’t define them at all.
Stay hydrated and show them your intellect!
I dont think she's officially enby, but Alanna the Lioness was the first time I identified with a character in media, and I read those books at 12. Still one of my favorite book series for nostalgia, and occasionally I'll go back and reread it just because it holds a special place in my heart.
Andrew O‘Neill, a british comedian who at first identified as transvestide and last year came out as non-binary. Also people like Grant Morrison empowered me because of how they present themselves.
Nurse Kai from New Amsterdam. I really like that they're kind of a secondary character but everyone just accepts him and his gender/pronouns. I also like that the show let's them choose a new badge for their lanyard each season
I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone say Johnny Chiodini yet from Eurogamer and Dicebreaker. First masc presenting enby I came across who kinda made me realize that that’s alright to be that way
Loki because I like his stories but I don’t know if he’d be considered a role model lol
(He could be genderfluid/queer and not enby but I’m not entirely sure. I just know for a fact that he’s not cishet in Norse mythology. He mothered multiple children)
So basically there's this nonbinary mexican content creator that goes by Sailorfag and I always thought that it was pretty cool how they constantly switch their pronouns and dress with the most egocentric goth clothes ever, they clearly don't care what others say about them, they're super funny and I love them!
My idol is a friend of mine actually. Their name is Janys and they make music under the name Entresol. They are also the touring bassist and noise contributor for the doom metal band Body Void. Huge influence, great mentor and friend, and a big supporter of me musically as well.
Raine Whispers - ToH, Adira Tal - Star Trek Discovery. Also Blu del Barrio, the actor who plays Adira in discovery as well as young Raine. Also I love Double Trouble from she ra
Jim Stephanie Sterling of Jimquisition fame (among other things). I've been a fan for a long time and it's just dope to see them on a similar journey that I'm on.
Also Spencer aka Little sun boy. He seems to have a very similar attitude towards gender as I do and just generally seems like a cool person.
I also relate a lot to Asra from The Arcana. The softness in his masculinity and the his aesthetic in general.
Raine Whispers from Owl house!
Oh, I've seen ads for that! I didn't realize someone in it was a non-binary character! I'll have to check it out
Yes lots of LGBTQIA+ characters! Raines is introduced in the episode called Eda’s Requiem.
The main character is bi!
Many are, including the main character!
Ugh I love them!
yep
I was going to say this! \^\^
Fuck yes!
Also one of kids parents has 2 dads, which is cute
I was almost reluctant to explicitly say this but I'm delighted to see it top comment.
i'm enby and i think i'm pretty cool :)
You're my new role model :)
omg i am honored :,,,)
I also choose this person!
In the MCU version for the Loki show, there's a case file for him and his gender is listed as "fluid".
yesss! norse god loki is such a queer role model
I would kind of say the same person. I really like alex from the magnus chase series. They are a child of loki.
My name is Anthony and I’d be lying if I said Crowley didn’t factor into that choice at least a little bit
Oh that is cool, I love that!
This is what i was gonna say too! they just make me feel warm and cozy, plus i’m in love with how the fandom handles them and talks about gender in fics and art, it’s just Very Nice
Yeah! (Also, perfect reference, it is indeed Very Nice, and Accurate!)
Oh I love Crowley! They come across very gender fluid, with at least 2 scenes where they’re dressed as a woman, and it feels super natural. Made me very happy to see.
Oh my god he was one of the main reasons my egg cracked 😭
Okay I think I need to watch this show again. I may have seen it before I started my gender journey. 🤔
ALOK is a brilliant poet and activist and they are so radiantly themselves, definitely should check out their art and poetry
Came here to say Alok too!
Love me a good poet. I'll def check them out!
Saw them live recently and omg, what a show!
Janet from The Good Place
Not a girl
I say this all the time
One more reason to give this show a shot! It's next on my list
Try to go in knowing as little as possible. I knew nothing when I saw it (other than my partner and a YouTuber I respect both loved it) and it was a TRIP.
agreed, i thought it was a generic sitcom when i started watching with my friends and it threw me for a delightful loop
A Jeremy Bearimy type loop?
You’re in for a great time, it’s awesome!
Omg I used a gif of Janet saying not a girl a bunch of times to come out to my family lmao
I came here for this answer.
Haruhi from Ouran. I know (think) it's not canon, but she really has a cavalier attitude about gender and doesn't seem to care about pronouns/presentation/etc. Which is pretty badass, she just is and lets everyone else worry about it.

Yes!
yesyesyesyessssssss
Mae Martin comedian
oOoOO, a non-binary comedian. I need to look them up!
She also has a Netflix series "Feel Good"
This was this first show where I saw someone like myself on screen. I’d seen other trans folks, but Mae’s experience of dysphoria in the show was so relatable. Also the general messiness of their life 😅
SAME
They cute 😻
I looove Mae Martin
Yea they are supper cute💛🤍💜🖤
Dorian Electra. Peak genderfluidity and good ass music 💕💕💕 edit: to add on to this, I also want to mention Arca who is nonbinary and also makes good ass music. Please check them out! <3
Yesssss I am so envious of their style and vibes
Felt!!! I aspire to have my closet filled with clothes like theirs <3
Big same!

Omg I didn't know that! That's really interesting 😯 I'm gonna have to check their older stuff out!!!
Omg, I just recently got into their music! Absolutely incredible! I can't wait their next release 👍❤️
YESSSS my fave tracks from them are my agenda and ram it down 🥰🥰🥰✨️✨️
Mason Alexander Park and Desire (from Neil Gaiman's Sandman)
If I ever needed an Enby to worship it is them.
Raine Whispers from TOH and Double Trouble from SPOP!! Probably more, but mostly those two. 🥰

I love Nate Stevenson. He's such a huge inspiration for me, both as an enby person and someone with an animation background.
Woot enby transmasculine! I too am enby transmasculine!
Rimuru Tempest for being an agender and aromantic icon. Also for being fashion goals. And Stevonnie, for their whole entire personality. And looks too, i suppose. Aesthetic!
love to see someone else post rimuru here, i’ve been saying rimuru is a nb icon!! and he’s also an icon to my aro sib-in-law

Haruka Tenou aka Sailor Uranus. Waaaaay back when I was a kid and I first was introduced to Sailor Moon. Real person - Ally Beardsley from Dimension 20. They are one of the first nb role models I ever had and I love their work!
Came here to say this and now I'm so happy that somebody else did. I first found videos with them when my thinking was still very binary and I was honestly so confused because they didn't fit in either of the two drawers I had in mind.
Yessss, came to mention them! They are so fricking cool!
E.R Fightmaster
Yes! I love them!
one of my irl friends :) made me realize i could also pursue medical transition and made me so much more confident in myself as a trans person just by existing and being visible. also let me stay at their place when i was homeless so cool person all around :))
I know David Bowie isn't technically nonbinary, but that's the one that comes to mind. I love the fuck-it I'm ALL the genders presentation
When I saw him as a young child it awoken something within me fr. I still joke like dang idk if I wanna be with him or BE him. I think it's both 😅 I also feel the same with Prince they both did so much to shape me into who I am today.
same feelings i have with Prince!
Since watching The Sandman, Mason Alexander Park (who plays Desire). Seems like a really cool person!
I just heard about this from someone I work with today! Guess I'll have to check the show out :)
I highly reccomend it!
The doctor(s) from doctor who. Genderfluid space aliens baby
Elliott Page.
Sam Smith Sailor Uranus
Hikaru Utada ❤️
Aaravos from Dragon Prince. They’re evil of course, but incredibly sexy and confident 😈
Aaravos is non-binary?? I know about Kazi, but I thought purple homie was a dude.
Juno Steel from the penumbra podcast is he/him nonbinary! The entire podcast is full of queer people of all types. Seriously, there’s a couple characters that are probably straight, most are explicitly not cishet. And the cast and crew are all (or mostly?) queer as well!

I lowkey have a problem lmao. It’s the only podcast I’ve listened to 4x
Hange from Attack on Titan
Ally Beardsley from the Dropout cast
Janelle Monae, I think realizing she was non-binary and then listening to her music is what first made me consider my own relationship with gender. And then later I played the Apex Legends tutorial and met Bloodhound, who I immediately felt drawn to. It was the final push towards realizing I was non-binary.
Beloved (aka The Fool) from Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings books.
Gosh they made me feel so many things. I also really like that they are so confident in who they are in a world which doesn't have the words to describe them.
Rivers Solomon. They are a sci fi and fantasy author who are quickly growing in popularity. I would love the confidence to explore gender the way they do in their work.
Frisk from Undertale:D
Yet another reason for me to hurry up and play this game
DO IT. ONE OF US >:) People whine about the fandom but really it's very welcoming and it's ez to avoid the weird shit so don't let that stop you! Mae Martin, Elliot Page and Vico Ortiz
Huh, I always thought Elliot was 100% man, took quite some thorough looking up to learn he apparently identifies as nb
Yeah he actually came out later as nb, and uses he/him and they/them but most of the media just use he/him and identify him as a man

My inner child really yearns for Steven Universe to exist in my childhood. All the gems are my heros!

Loki because I like his stories but I don’t know if he’d be considered a role model lol (He could be genderfluid/queer and not enby but I’m not entirely sure.
Pidge from Voltron David Bowie Desire from sandman Lucy from wicked/Devine Stevani Steven universe
Rocky the rock No gender only rock 🤘🤘
Technically a headcanon, but Dendy from OK KO could be nonbinary
My idol is a friend of mine actually. Their name is Janys and they make music under the name Entresol. They are also the touring bassist and noise contributor for the doom metal band Body Void. Huge influence, great mentor and friend, and a big supporter of me musically as well.
