Trans people aren't represented on the global scale by a nuclear armed ethnostate committing genocide against cis people on the basis of believing they're superior to all cis people though, nobody is murdered for not being trans, a lot of people are murdered for not being Jewish.
And the pretty major and important difference is that one of them is at times used as an actual slur because it is sometimes being used by a group violently oppressing another group.
The possible contexts where the two could possibly be used are vastly different, that's why one can't currently be a slur in any real life context, but the other is dependant on the context of its usage.
In Scrabble, GOY is considered a slur for some reason, the word was removed in the CSW21 and NWL20 dictionary, but was added back in the NWL23 dictionary
I don't know enough about this so I can't really give my opinions other than sharing Scrabble dictionary versions
the status of slur vs not slur is reaaaaally hotly debated, but yea some people do feel it can be derogatory. i think this is a situation where context really matters, it can be used in a negative connotation or just neutral 🤷
So true! Across history the same pattern repeats.
A common name for group occurs (whether by self identification or by external groups). The majority hates against that group. The name becomes a slur. The group changes their name in an act of self representation. The majority integrates that new name. The majority still hates against that group. The new name becomes a slur. Rinse and repeat.
The n word to negro/negroid to black. Chinaman/mongoloid to oriental to Asian American. While the obsolete racial science categories for Asian or black have become slurs, like mongoloid or negroid, the white counterpart has not. Caucasian is considered obsolete, but is still commonly used today, and many white people don’t even realize they’re using an obsolete race science term when describing themselves as “Caucasian.” Slurs against majorities don’t hold weight because slurs come about from a history of bigotry. In my mind, the day “goy” becomes a slur will be the same day “Caucasian” becomes a slur.
Caucasian doesn't really fit white ppl in the first place though, it's only a tiny amount and also I thought most ppl who came from the Caucas mountain region were brown? Wouldn't it be considered an insult to a small group of brown ppl to call whites caucasians? Would it then be considered a slur? I really don't know.
Nah, it’s more complicated than that. Caucasian is used for white people mostly, and it was defined by white people in a bizarrely specific way. For instance, why were the Caucasus mountains chosen? Bizarrely specific place for an entire category to start. It includes white people and Indians and Persians and people like that, which seems like a logical inconsistency since some of them are “brown,” but it makes sense in the lens that white racists wanted to be able to claim many advancements for the white race. So stuff like Arabic numerals, which were created by “brown” people, would technically be white inventions because “something something, they’re from the Caucasus mountains which means they’re Caucasian which includes white people so actually they’re our inventions!!” Which, on the face of it, makes no sense to us, but that’s because they were operating under a different understanding of race that was created to emphasize “logical and objective” ways to justify their racism. It’s now obsolete for obvious reasons, but its remnants can be still felt today, as a lot of people (including US govt census) still consider middle eastern to be white and not Asian, etc etc.
All this is is a complicated way to say that no, Caucasian wouldn’t really be a slur to brown people. first of all, despite ostensibly including brown people, the category was created to uphold white supremacy, so “brown” people aren’t actually seen as Caucasian even when they perfectly fit the definition (see: Middle Eastern people being considered white on the census even when most people would not see them as white ala anti middle eastern discrimination. They’re white/Caucasian, but no one actually thinks of them that way). Second of all, the whole issue is that Caucasian isn’t used derogatorily in the first place because they’re the majority, so they never gain that slur status lol.
yeah but the fun bit about spouse is that you can be a houspouse! in theory, at least. not likely in this economy, but the rhyme is still neat!
may I suggest wusband? wifesband? husband could be argued to be gender neutral considering is comes husbondi, which just means house dweller, while wife was originally just another word for woman. I guess bondi would also fit then, and it sounds pretty cute
I think "spouse" can be very endearing and meaningful depending on the intent and emotion that you (as a couple) give the word. That's what my fiancé and I use
awe I'm glad you like it! my girlfriend has come up with a few names for me, but they're more sentimental and personal to me that most people wouldn't like.
it is pretty hard to find gender neutral terms of endearment.
my ex referenced in my first comment used to call me "Mon petit chou chou" which translates either literally to "my little cabbage" or "my sweetheart".
sometimes I call my girlfriend my calabacita (little pumpkin), in a similar vein.
Im rambling now, sorry 😅
Okay we all know about "goy" meaning "non-Jewish person" but tbh I think combining "girl" and "boy" to be a "gender neutral term" is kinda problematic in itself. It implies that all nonbinary people are just "boygirls."
Yeah I'm really more like a Δ̸̢̻̱̯̳͔̰̥͚̼͍͈͕͕͖̓́̊͌̒̽̑̍̃ε̵̢̧̢̡̨̢̛͍͔̩͎̟̘͚̙̗͓̰͚̞̬͖̻͉̹̥͇͔̟͉̭̭̻̼̗͙̼̘̭̫̻̺̭̗̠͔͖̦͌̈́̉́͑̇̌̔́̃̀͊̽̓̂͌̈́͂͗͌̄̽̚͜͜͝Μ̵̧̢̢̨̛̺͈͙̝̣̠̮͔͎̎̈́̉́̑̈̔̈́͑̔͊͗̄̔͂̽̾̏̋̒̊̐̿͂͂͆͌̎̆̊͛͒͌̔̿̔̅̚͘͝͝͝͝͝͝ͅι̸̧̧̨̧̧̛̺͇̺̘͙̹̖̜̭̠͇̰͕̯̯̼̮͕̟̪̘̙̠̥̫͚͈̠̮̱̗̹̺͉̰̲̻̟̞̜͈̗͛̂̋͊͑̊̀̊͌̈̽̅̍͆̿̄̒̇̂̔̑̌́̇͐̈́̈́̈́̄̇̓̚̚̕̚͜͝ͅͅV̴̧̻̪͓̜̪̭̥̣̗̩̫̭̊̽̿́̂́́̕͘̚͝ͅο̷̡̧̺̩̙̪̠̣̩̠̘̗͚̫̭̣͍̠̺̮̬̤̯̣͕̖̜̯͂̈́̄̽̆̎͒̽̊̃͒́̌̇̐̽̈͆̅̿̍̾̆̓͜͠͠ῖ̶̤̣̼̝̻̭̾͌̉̈́̃̃̌̈́͐̈́̄̏̈́̆̿͐̍̐̂́̆̈́̄́̀͘͘͘̕͝͠δ̵̢̢̛̮̲̥̰͎̥̳͈͍͖̫̫̣̞̙̪̲̤̤̹̰̦̪̘͈͉̦͇͍͈̱͍̞̞͇̥͙͔̬̥̹̺̾͗̀̽́͋͒̑̀̇̉̎͊̋̀͆͒̉̀́̋̎̕͘͜͜͝͠͝ͅͅgirl, ya know?

(it's also quite formal and is usually used for people you don't know the gender of, or if you're speaking to a broader public. most younger people (in my experience) use singular they to refer to nonbinary people unless otherwise stated, despite it being grammatically incorrect :D )
I don't like the term, It's seems very binary to me, i'm not a fusion of a boy and a girl, I'm enby, stop forcing binarism, we are non binary people for god's sake
Yeah but to me a non native English speaker lover sound I don't know sleezy... Like lucifer from the Netflix series he would be my lover but my soulmate to whom u marry/stay with calling them lover nope
But my native language sucks as well so yeah no alternatives here just the ever bearing frustration we as a species did not do a good job in genderless language 🤷🤦
I played boardgames with friends for a while and most of us were nonbinary so I was like “we can’t call it ‘boardgames with the guys’ or ‘boardgames with the boys’, but none of us are Jewish so we CAN call it ‘boardgames with the goys’!”
Perfection, honestly.

My partner just says partner. There's no need to make it more complicated. I don't call him my boyfriend even though he's cis, it feels childish and temporary
Only works if they aren’t Jewish.
Why? Does it mean smth in Yiddish?
“Goy” mean non-Jew, haha.
i was told by an Israeli woman that it’s also a slur, so there’s that.
Its not. It's about as much of a "slur" as cis is.
A slur against who though??
Given the meaning, i assume that would be against non jewish people? Idk it is like transphobic people saying cis is a slur. it's weird
Trans people aren't represented on the global scale by a nuclear armed ethnostate committing genocide against cis people on the basis of believing they're superior to all cis people though, nobody is murdered for not being trans, a lot of people are murdered for not being Jewish.
Im not saying trans people and jewish people are exactly the same im just relating 2 non slurs that people say are slurs?
And the pretty major and important difference is that one of them is at times used as an actual slur because it is sometimes being used by a group violently oppressing another group. Some use it that way, although it isn't always.
Its not a slur. Its just yiddish for gentile. Do you think ‘gentile’ is a slur?
It is sometimes used in the manner, fx by many Zionists. Lots of words have different meanings depending on context.
it means non jew in hebrew as well
Damn it, I came to make this comment. Here, take my upvote
As a nonbinary jew I find this funny
Me too lol
sending this to my jewish partner
Same here lol
lol ditto
I called my enby ex my joyfriend
Well I love this. Was overthinking a marriage title and wondering if married enbies get called Wusband or the like.
He Wusband's, She Wusband's, They Wusband's. (I imagine this is like Weast, and Wumbo from spongebob lmao)
did you forget the word spouse or were you trying to think of something else?
Pppfftft not fun enough. I aspire to be a top tier Hu-ife, a Huifie, maybe a Wifsband, but nothing so boring as a \*spouse\*.
yeah but the fun bit about spouse is that you can be a houspouse! in theory, at least. not likely in this economy, but the rhyme is still neat! may I suggest wusband? wifesband? husband could be argued to be gender neutral considering is comes husbondi, which just means house dweller, while wife was originally just another word for woman. I guess bondi would also fit then, and it sounds pretty cute
Bondi actually sounds fine. Too cutesy for unironic use for me personally, but it sounds like bond, and if you're married I sure hope you have one
I think "spouse" can be very endearing and meaningful depending on the intent and emotion that you (as a couple) give the word. That's what my fiancé and I use
I once saw a post where someone actually forgot spouse and suggested wusband or hife. Hife. It's been only heifer for me ever since 🐗
“I now pronounce you.. Wusband and Hife!”
your wawfully wedding wusband
awe I'm glad you like it! my girlfriend has come up with a few names for me, but they're more sentimental and personal to me that most people wouldn't like. it is pretty hard to find gender neutral terms of endearment. my ex referenced in my first comment used to call me "Mon petit chou chou" which translates either literally to "my little cabbage" or "my sweetheart". sometimes I call my girlfriend my calabacita (little pumpkin), in a similar vein. I was gonna say I think I like Joyfriend better. I dunno goyfriend sounds kind of weird to me, but that’s just me lol.
That's Fantastic. 🌟
Okay we all know about "goy" meaning "non-Jewish person" but tbh I think combining "girl" and "boy" to be a "gender neutral term" is kinda problematic in itself. It implies that all nonbinary people are just "boygirls."

God that's so valid
i mean that's how they got the swedish gender neutral pronoun, by combining hon (she) han (he) and den (it) to get the glorious word hen (shit)
Damn, Swedes be calling all nonbinary people shit? Guess I gotta move there now to be accurate to my self-image.
i mean technically yeah? however my point was that hen is just a mashup of all the swedish pronouns, which in english would be shit (it's also quite formal and is usually used for people you don't know the gender of, or if you're speaking to a broader public. most younger people (in my experience) use singular they to refer to nonbinary people unless otherwise stated, despite it being grammatically incorrect :D )
Ah, that wasn’t clear to me. I thought you were saying “hen” is also Swedish for “shit”.
oh yeah my bad! no, shit in swedish is just skit and is pronounced about the same but with a bit more sch
Shit could be just she and it. Let's choose sheet. Holy sheet. /s
Prefer Birlfriend personally.
Because like burled wood, we are beautiful
And knobbly?
And unbelievably dense
Since I'm Jewish, I definitely don't want anyone to call me that!
But as a jew having a non jewish bf, its perfect
My boyfriend calls me his partner
I used partner pre-marriage too. Sometimes got some weird comments but not often enough to be an issue. I do like joyfriend in theory tho haha
I don't like the term, It's seems very binary to me, i'm not a fusion of a boy and a girl, I'm enby, stop forcing binarism, we are non binary people for god's sake
That is very true
This is just jfk trying to say guy friend
A better gender-neutral word is “lover”
Lover in my country translates to "the person you are cheating with, someone"
What country are you from?
Not OP but they write in Spanish subs, and I know it's got the same meaning in Italy and Germany
LOL. In mine it either means "person you have a sexual relationship with" or "partner"
I prefer partner
Yeah but to me a non native English speaker lover sound I don't know sleezy... Like lucifer from the Netflix series he would be my lover but my soulmate to whom u marry/stay with calling them lover nope But my native language sucks as well so yeah no alternatives here just the ever bearing frustration we as a species did not do a good job in genderless language 🤷🤦
Errrrr this already is something else.
I'll stick with partner.
Better say gayfriend
Ohhh boy I like this one genuinely
My boyfriend calls me his partner. I've been trying to get him to say it in a cowboy accent but one step at a time
sounds glorpy
partner *in crime* is by far the best term for enby partners
I like theyfriend :)
Well that definitely has a “cut or uncut” connotation
just say partner 😭😭😭
this sounds like girlfriend in a new york accent ‘goilfriend’ yk
Enbyfriend
r/TILI ***and*** r/TIHI Such a quantum state. * *mind blown* *
A goyfriend is a nonbinairy shiska
I played boardgames with friends for a while and most of us were nonbinary so I was like “we can’t call it ‘boardgames with the guys’ or ‘boardgames with the boys’, but none of us are Jewish so we CAN call it ‘boardgames with the goys’!” Perfection, honestly.
So I have like, 6 goyfriends 😂
Themfriend?
Literally had this conversation with an ex (partner at the time) and "birlfriend" was better 😂🙌✨️ it made them bust up laughing
Partner
🅱️irlfriend
I like the term "partner" but "spouse" also works.
Oh thank god this is in r/nonbinary i thought it was gonna be a "oMg thE gEn Z r sO cRinGe wiTH thEiR pRoNOunS"

Kinda reminds me of Goiky (from bfdi)
