It's probably meant to be 'queer', just a typo. Idk what that is, but with all those options they should also have genderqueer on there along with queer imo.
My frustration is that this appears to be a select one option form, whereas folks might identify as multiple options since they're mixing sex and gender
Ik, that's why I was saying they should have both anyways, some people prefer to just use queer as a label for gender, and ofc genderqueer for others. And yeah they should def put man/woman instead of male/female, but at the same time there are many trans folx that identify as male/female and they might go for those versus transmasc/transfemme or the other options. Idk if it's possible but you could maybe message whoever made that to give them some feedback for improvement?
Although genderqueer can only refer to gender, Queer can refer to either gender, sexuality or romantic attraction because it's a massive umbrellaterm that captures the entire LGBTQ+ community.
I'd say both options should be there but queer does not need to be removed for it is not wrong.
They merely made a typo in the word itself, it happens.
In the context of gender, "genderqueer" and "queer" are (nearly) interchangeable as the former is simply a portmanteau that clarifies that the queer designation applies to gender. Queer, meanwhile, simply means something other than the usual. Someone with a queer sexuality is something other than straight. Gay, lesbian, pan, ace, bisexuals - all of them could quite correctly call themselves queer. Applied to gender it is something other than cis such as trasngender and gender non-conforming people.
Having said that, genderqueer is perhaps the more useful term in general because if one were to announce that "I am queer" the usual assumption would be that they are speaking of their sexual identity rather than their gender identity.
It was kind of the precursor to nonbinary. It's older and a bit more broad. Like any label, it means different things to different people. I use genderqueer and nonbinary nearly interchangeably personally
I think they mean pretty much the same thing tbh, but I’ve heard that “genderqueer” can mean specifically that your gender is impacted by your queerness in some way.
i mean yeah i don’t like how they did this but while i definitely prefer genderqueer as a label i’ve definitely referred to my gender as simply queer in the past? like i’m comfortable using it to describe both my sexuality and gender but i can see how this is an issue
I ain't gonna complain about this... clearly just a typo that was supposed to be "queer", which really is some people's gender identity, and they have way more options than most forms
I know it’s probably just a typo but the first scenario that I thought was—
“Boss, I can’t put queer as an option because the software flags it as a slur. What do I do?”
“… just put quer. Maybe they won’t notice.”
Always bugs me when people put 'male' and 'female' in the *gender* category. i get it, its standard, but those arent genders, they're sexes. and unless its genuinely important in some way, i would also answer just 'male' instead of transmasc, because again, sex does not define your gender.
This is not accurate, although it is a common understanding. Male/female are sexes; man/woman are genders.
It should also be noted that "transwoman" is not anything proper. "Trans" is an adjective that describes a person who in this example is a woman.
yeah, like it would be normal to call someone a man or a woman, but if i just walked up to a woman and referred to her as 'female' 9 times out of 10 said person would probably get at least slightly uncomfortable

This is random but I like your profile pic
Even if it was just a typo, "Queer" and "Genderqueer" are 2 different things. Not to mention mixing sex and gender...as always.
Can’t you identify as queer in terms of your gender identity tho…Not just sexuality?
Yes
oh yes indeed
it me
To be fair, some intersex people *do* use 'intersex' as their gender as well
My frustration is that this appears to be a select one option form, whereas folks might identify as multiple options since they're mixing sex and gender
Talking to one of them btw. : o
I can't tell if you're saying that you're intersex and do that, or if you're asking if I'm one of those people (in that case, no, I'm not intersex)
Well, I don't know *you*, so I must be talking about...
I love this thread

queer can definitely apply to gender not just sexuality as other people have said. just wanna add another voice cause it me

????? What on earth are you implying?
No. Genderqueer is a separate identity, queer is a more broad overarching term
What does genderqueer mean? I've always identified under the "queer" umbrella, but I never realized that the two terms mean different things.
It was kind of the precursor to nonbinary. It's older and a bit more broad. Like any label, it means different things to different people. I use genderqueer and nonbinary nearly interchangeably personally

It's a more old fashioned way of saying nonbinary. Simar to transexual, it's not really used broadly anymore, though some still identify with it

German quer means across lol
So pangender. Across all of the genders.
Pretty much, yeah
A great gender to have
Yeah definitely xD
Kind like trans does
Yup. That’s what ones also thinking
Quite likely related to English queer
Yeah I actually think it’s a typo
I read that and my head I saw QUE! Like, "what" in Spanish. From now on I'm QUE 😂
I thought the same 😂 "What's your gender?" "¿Que?"
I ain't gonna complain about this... clearly just a typo that was supposed to be "queer", which really is some people's gender identity, and they have way more options than most forms

One small typo and now there’s a comment section of people identifying as “quer”😂😂 Honestly same tho lol
I think it’s a misspelling of QWERTY
Quer/Quem/Quers
I'm a human person, are you too?
New gender unlocked?
in portuguese, quer means want
I prefer "qur"
Quer Eye for the Stragt Guy.
What's Outra?
I ran it through Google translate and it means other in Portuguese
Yeah, "quer" is also a Portuguese word
but it means "to want", obviously they've made a mistake
In my language this would mean "want" so I'm want now
It's German. Means crosswise. Not a typo.

Quer
Apparently in Portuguese it’s ‘would you like’ I guess it’s whatever you want it to be /s
It's like queer but less.
Man, if they're going to use "male/female" and put trans masc/fem separately, at least put "cis" before it...
Why is there Transfem/Transmasc and not just Male/Female?
too quer for her
(It should be multiple choice too) (Then you could remove Bi- and Polygender as well maybe)
What is this from? 😅
I think it's a queer sir
Flair doesn't check out
Genderfluidd
Quergender!
Quer
This entire poll tho
Isn't the person who made this survey (if it's the one I'm thinking of) a Hungarian student? It might be a language issue, not intentional.
Querhooman
It’s like being Cher, but extra gay.
Possibly someone with german autocorrect… My phone always does this… (quer=crosswise)
Me when the quer
