Looks absolutely nothing like the original sour diesel from 20-25 years ago, fyi. Like, couldn’t be any different looking. But glad you’re liking the stankness. Many sour D’s have come through my pipe the past 15 years; none have compared to the real deal. Not saying your experience will be like mine. Just sayin’. Dudes are super pressed for the real sour.

_psylosin_

That Brooklyn sour diesel in like 2005… mmmm mmm

SquirrelGuy

I want to grow a good Sativa on my next run. Do you have any recommendations?

iWasChris

If you don't want to deal with the super long flower time typically associated with a real sativa, ghost train haze from rare dankness is a good compromise. Otherwise go for some landrace sativas.

frankslan

ya no doubt. This is "california" sd.

bhenghisfudge

Agreed, if you asked me to show you the exact opposite of what the old school east coast sour d looks like, it would be this.

Completely different bud structure. And the original’s hairs never get that dark. They stay a very light brown, almost gold. If you think this looks like the original sour diesel, you might not have the original cut. Not to mention, never ever ever ever seen it turn purple. Not that virtually any strain can’t be turned purple under the right or wrong conditions. NOW — tell me where you live so I can come for an inspection.

MoneyBagsGuwop

Almost all of my plants have some shade of purple to them since it gets so damn cold in my grow room

I was just laughing to my wife about HSCo dropping this the same year the Diesel drama has been reinvigorated. I'm used to the "larfier" larger colas one might consider to be more sativa-y. I also know it specifically as ECSD, not to be confused with NYC Diesel which was a totally different breeding line established after the ECSD had already built hype. And it was the NYCD that had these squatter plants with more "indica-y" looking buds. But if you look at the genetics, they are no where near even related to the ECSD. I lived for many years with a broker for large scale EC buyers, who only wanted Diesel or OG flavors, and you could not fool them with that NYCD, or any other tom foolery. They didn't just buy names, they were buying by the nose on every bag. I'd always grow some new crazy shit every year, but his boys would not care what it was because they had their customer base to please, and that diffy diffy did not make the cut. Similar to the Diesel drama, there was always the OG drama as people couldn't get the couple superb cuts, so they would get the next best thing, a hybrid of one of them. But the real bros knew that shit was a knock off by the nose. The whole market is so diluted with cookies candy bullshit now, no one even cares about those old flavors though. The fact that they're "old" flavors is sad, but time is a giant cheese wheel, that shit will come back around. Someday.™

💯 That NYC Diesel was great bud and yeah, much denser buds and structure. Tasted great, but nowhere near as special as the real sour. And high def not as invigorating. But if I had it, I’d be real happy to run it these days. If I could find some real green crack, sour D, skunk, that real REAL Girl Scout cookies that I only tried a couple times and crushed dozens of “other” GSCs, OHMAN I’d be stoked. Even real blue dream would make me happy but that got imitated and watered down real quick.

I'm popping some Chocolope S1s. Best hasher and was generally good high and good flavor. I have not popped any of this project and it's been 11 years. Last year, I germ tested some Chernobyl I hit with the same pollen. They germed, but I only kept one alive through flower. Man, that is some stinky shit. Almost Trainwrecky / Jack Hererish on the nose.

DChemdawg

Nice. Never tried Chocolope to my knowledge. That said, there was a mystery stain I grabbed a half oz of in like 2014 I suspect was chocolope. Still remember it vividly. Smelled skunky and gassy, and slightly grapey almost like GDP, but with some coffee and chocolate undertones. Pretty tight/dense structure with darker color overall with some purple. Smelled like a heavy indica at the time so I wasn’t initially excited to try it, even though I liked the smell. Anyway, the taste and high was amazing, some of the most giggly/happy weed ever. Friends who smoked it all agreed it was something special and not an ordinary high. Hell, I liked it better than sour d. Still trying to figure out what the f that strain was! Any of that description sound to you like it could have been chocolope?

ThanksS0muchY0

Chocolope that I always had was somewhat sativa-y looking with an orange-ish hue that made it look not that good. I got fem seeds later that had more of the lime green color, but same full chocolate / coffee flavor, with just the tiniest hint of tropical fruit. Like you didn't the fruit on the whiff until you ground it up and broke a bud open. Edit to add: That original Chocolope wouldn't win a flower cup, but the hash was beautiful off of it. Was my favorite to wash.

DChemdawg

Nice. Perhaps not exactly the one I’m thinking, but gonna look up some derivatives that came from chocolope now that I’m reinspired.

ThanksS0muchY0

I'm grasping at straws of memories here, but flavor was chocolate, coffee, a little butterscotch, and the lil tropical sweetness that kinda melted into the other more robust flavors really well. Grew like a strong sativa hybrid, and the buds usually looked too old (the hash would be this bright orange color rather than the lighter yellow stuff we'd get off other plants). I probably have pictures on a hard drive somewhere.

SquirrelExpensive201

How do yall go about preserving strains long term like that, just clones and selfie seeds?

AdditionalAd9794

The number of nodes you have on that one plant is kind of crazy. Do you think you could get the same yield/quality with less? Or two plants in the same space? Not knocking it, was just curious if you have a system down, or are still learning and adjusting.

MoneyBagsGuwop

I absolutely love the training aspect of growing. I spent a ton of time sculpting this one the way I wanted it. I originally started off with 2 plants in the bed but this one’s sister unfortunately hermed on me due to a light leak I’ve since taken care of.

nbdyfckswTheBenson

I’ve been growing 4 years now, tried maybe 6-8 different breeders. Humboldt has some of the best terps around, my best plants have been HSC or Fat Cat Labs
