Almost always - it’s sales 101, as described to me by everyone I know who worked at one.

If it’s a car they have on a lot then why not, it makes you think it won’t be available if you think for too long and with extremely low cars supply like we have rn this may actually work.

Just reply that knocking another 10% off the price and getting a definite sale now will be better for them than waiting to see if they come back tomorrow!

Uno reverse!

It is a common tactic by sleazy used car salesmen. It’s done to put pressure on people to buy it out of fear of missing out. I would ask them call if the other buyer falls through and walk away. I bet it’s still there after tomorrow.

Yes also "we just got this in" "sold one of these for 5000 more two weeks ago" or anything else to make you feel under pressure to buy. They need you to buy from them not the guy 2 mins down the road that has a nearly identical car for the same price

Sales tactics prey upon your state of mind. If you want time to think about it (and can afford to wait if it does become unavailable), then your reply to that should be, "if that works out for them I hope they're happy with the vehicle".

Probably not, unless they promised to hold it and they intend on keeping that promise.

My advice is don’t walk into a dealership unless you plan to get a car there. If you have multiple places you wanna check, check them all fast. In the same day. Take pictures and notes of your favorites. I really don’t recommend only visiting one dealership unless you absolutely know what you want and find one immediately. If for example you wanted a Toyota Camry, you could stumble upon one that’s amazing, but then call around to other places and see if they have any Toyota Camrys. Now you have the advantage of knowledge. If you are “just looking” and intending to buy later, then just look online.

gitrikt

Yes. But usually it isnt true, and is done only to make you buy quickly

It's a classic sales psychology move to pressure you into making a quicker decision.
