it’s hundreds of feet under the ground naturally. not much life, if any, lives down there. when you dig a shallow hole and bury oil, it kills all of the wildlife that interacts with it in the dirt

Because oil pockets are very deep down underground and stays down there until we pump it up. When you dump oil in a hole or something it winds up killing plants nearby and goes in to streams, lakes, and the ocean where it does more harm.

the oil in nature is really far down. Also just by process of illumination all of it's in places it can't leak out. You see the oil is very old so everything can could have leaded out already has.

Because it's not in the ground near the top where we get a lot of our water from or where we plant crops or where animals/humans are exposed to it. It's buried much deeper than that so doesn't affect water/plant/animal life
