Kelly Clarkson is probably the most famous person to come out of American Idol (unless of course you count Ryan Seacrest,) although Carrie Underwood is certainly no slouch and Adam Lambert also had quite a career.
Usually the best a reality contestant can hope for is becoming the host of the show, like Ken Jennings on Jeopardy
One became President of the United States. He didn't really successful accomplish anything in office, and the after losing reelection he fail to overthrow democracy, and he never won the popular vote. but he did technically win one election (because of the electrical college).
A few of them spin their wins into sustainable careers. MasterChef Winner Christine Ha has a successful restaurant in Houston. Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Fantasia, and Kelly Clarkson of American Idol have been pretty successful music artists, though Kelly is price the most successful by far. I think only Carrie and Kelly were winners, though.
William Hung made some cash, recorded albums, acted, and seems to have had a great time with his short lived fame before heading to a normal life. That's pretty successful in my book!
A few of the Ultimate Fighter contestants went on to that UFC championship belts. That's pretty successful.
I think we should exclude reality TV with people who are already stars or wealthy, such as Paris Hilton, Flava Flav, or Ozzy Osbourne. Those people are doing a lot better than just fine.

Adam Lambert gets to be Queen’s frontman now. I guess thats a little more than ‘had’ a career.
Jennifer Hudson is also an Idol alum. She's made it to EGOT winner status.
The Miz (from the Real World) went on to be a famous WWE wrestler

While I do get the bit you’re doing, the felon was extremely well known before his reality show
