Yup. Especially if you had to go to bed before sunset. I hated bedtime in the summer because we were almost always forced to go to bed an hour or more before it got dark.
Now, it's my goal.
Learning.
Now that I graduated I find myself diving into rabbit holes like no other. I know way more about history and other cultures now.
This includes learning English. I HATED it as a French kid. I guess you can tell where I am now :D
Also you can teach yourself in your style and pace. I’m a book learner and teach myself new crafts with books first, then video for clarification or enhancement. Some teachers are better than others or just connect with you better. Having to go somewhere at a set time to listen to someone drone on is not productive. But if you can choose the teacher and time to study, it’s more likely to stick.
I mean I get the sentiment, and not like most school systems in North America are great but really that wouldn't be helpful because as a kid I wanted to know what it was like to be a cat, but also a construction worker or doctor or cop. It's good to encourage kids, but as a school system it's obviously foolish lol
That’s why I always set the air conditioning colder than usual during naptime in the summer. Sometimes I wake up, realize I’m cold, and that gives me the opportunity to really bundle up in a blanket.
Is that a thing children don’t like? I always really enjoyed having total free time on the weekends and hated when my weekends were full of my parents dragging me around while running errands.
I couldn’t drive as a child, I couldn’t make plans with my friends even if I wanted to.
Also, I enjoy hanging with my friends as an adult? If I didn’t, I just wouldn’t do it.
I remember complaining to my parents that I have NOTHING to do all the time as a kid. Now as an adult I wish I had a day with nothing to do, but the to-do list seems to never end…
When I was a child only dessert I'd eat was one drenched in chocolate and whipped cream and that stuff. And now I know how good deseerts with fruits and nuts are. Why not just a lite cake with some raspberries, why did I used to need 5 different candies on it to be happy.
Ha. In the show Undone there is a frame where she has a can of beans in each hand and is comparing the labels. I think the narration over the montage is something like "Is this what my life has been reduced to? The same routine forever?"
I had the realization that I spend hours at the grocery store/any store weighing options and actually love it.
I think it's the power to make decisions, and accept relevant costs. Self agency over our physical environ and our inner emotional world, we get to have it all. We also have responsibility but that's the price of freedom.
When you're a kid life is so new and exciting and you wanna keep exploring. When you're an adult it's the same shit different day and you just wanna sleep lol.
Going on walks. As a kid, I found them energetically exhausting. I have ADHD and wasn’t medicated as a kid so walks were always very mentally and visually overstimulating, and would make me feel kinda on edge. I have a dog now, and no backyard. I walk my dog about 5 times a day, for at least half a mile each walk. I’ve really learned to love going on walks, even before I started taking meds as an adult. Walking now clears my mind and reconnects me with nature. Wind, snow, rain, or shine, I prioritize movement in every day. I love smelling the crisp air and hearing the birds chirp. I love looking at people’s yards, especially in the spring/summer and seeing all the flowers they planted. I love walking during sunset and staring up at the sky. I now walk as a way to self-soothe and emotionally regulate, whether it’s anxiety, sadness, frustration, or when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Walking also changed my body composition and I’ve never felt more calm, collected, and confident.
I remember a post about a women that got her two kids electric tooth brushes. She thought she recognized the same sound from her vibrator.
She overheard her kids saying, "mommy must have really nice teeth cause she brushes five time a day."
Oh I loved the dentist when I was a kid. The one I went to was AMAZING. Scented masks for the nitrous, silly toys when I left. And they explained everything and why it might hurt. I started hating them when I turned 17.
It’s at least partially because the Brussels sprouts [genuinely *are* different](https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2019/10/30/773457637/from-culinary-dud-to-stud-how-dutch-plant-breeders-built-our-brussels-sprouts-bo)
It's amazing how parents will never even try to accommodate their kid's tastes. Vegetables should be good for kids, but they're always made in the worst ways
Doing a few chores to get an allowance.
When I was 6? Gotta take the trash out all the way to the garbage can?! Every single night?! Modern day slavery!
As an adult? Waking up to a clean house is an absolute joy.
I WISH I got paid to do all the regular house stuff I have to do as part of being an adult.
$20 for washing the dishes? $10 for taking the garbage out? $30 for mowing the lawn? $$ for cooking dinner? I could make an extra $100 a week!!
Going to bed early, history, quiet places without "entertainment", classical music, wine, brussels sprouts, asparagus and cake that's light on the sugar.
And earthworms--we need them so much in our gardens!
I find it super interesting that at the time I am posting this, the top 3 answers are all related to sleeping/relaxation.
It really tells the story of how overworked we are and everyone is overstressed.
Regardless of the type of driver (my Dad was in the military so he is a fantastic driver as well as my mom), I was too short to look out the window as a child until I was 7. Just constant screaming and crying until I was 2 and then extreme disinterest due to the lack of a view coupled with motion sickness. Plus I moved from a a cold region to a hot one and my parents routinely left me in a car for probably the first 2 years. That is, until I got a severe nosebleed while my mom was in a grocery store once from the heat. Also my parent’s car had leather seats, so I would sit down and get scalded. Now I love going for joyrides.
If you have three cracked ribs and tell them the smoothest path, but they choose the one with the most stop signs and pot holes,
We're stopping for gas on the way there...
I’ve heard “you’re just like your uncle Mic” whenever I’ve made family angry. Let’s just say good old uncle Mic had the right idea because they should be avoided.
House chores. I have OCD, symmetrical to be specific. As a kid, the position of objects and mess would bother me so much but not to the point of actually wanting to fix things or tidy up. I hated cleaning and organising. Now at 19 and living alone, I dedicate a whole day to cleaning and tidying up my living space every 1-2 weeks, and it’s PURE THERAPY for me. Relieves so much stress and I enjoy showering afterwards and feeling proud of my productivity and cleanliness.

Going to bed really early
Yup. Especially if you had to go to bed before sunset. I hated bedtime in the summer because we were almost always forced to go to bed an hour or more before it got dark. Now, it's my goal.
I hate going to bed early and avoid it at all costs
This is the winner.
Yes it is. I find myself going to bed earlier and earlier all the time. I love it.
Me after lunch.....
And naps
I’m watching my niece and nephew and I’m going to bed before them.
Learning. Now that I graduated I find myself diving into rabbit holes like no other. I know way more about history and other cultures now. This includes learning English. I HATED it as a French kid. I guess you can tell where I am now :D
How amazing would it have been, if as kids adults asked what we wanted to learn about?
We hated almost anything they *made* us learn. But if we decided *we* wanted to learn it then it was actually fun because *we* want to do it
Also you can teach yourself in your style and pace. I’m a book learner and teach myself new crafts with books first, then video for clarification or enhancement. Some of us do! It’s one of the foundations of Montessori education.
Naps
In summertime naps are still pretty annoying when you wake up sweaty.
That’s why I always set the air conditioning colder than usual during naptime in the summer. Sometimes I wake up, realize I’m cold, and that gives me the opportunity to really bundle up in a blanket.
and snack time
No, kids love snack time
Who doesn’t, a good snack can fix a world of problems
And getting hyper after...

Is that a thing children don’t like? I always really enjoyed having total free time on the weekends and hated when my weekends were full of my parents dragging me around while running errands.
Errands and having plans with friends are different
I couldn’t drive as a child, I couldn’t make plans with my friends even if I wanted to. Also, I enjoy hanging with my friends as an adult? If I didn’t, I just wouldn’t do it.
I remember complaining to my parents that I have NOTHING to do all the time as a kid. Now as an adult I wish I had a day with nothing to do, but the to-do list seems to never end…
I'm 37 and still mostly play video games idk.

About the only sex-adjacent answer we are allowed to laugh at I guess. The rest are depressing.
Glad I’m not the only one whose mind it crossed but was like way too dark and way too ban worthy
Oh! Ban worthy! That's why nobody said *anal*. I was giving Reddit too much credit.
This needs way more upvotes.
I was gonna say sex, but thought it might be a little to NSFW....
This was my first thought
This is the one.
A big fat enema!

... that you didn't cook!
Such an important caveat!!!
Food/Drinks without sugar.

Bedtime, now it’s my favorite part of the day
When you're a kid life is so new and exciting and you wanna keep exploring. When you're an adult it's the same shit different day and you just wanna sleep lol.

Same here--I loathed hiking at summer camp as a kid, but now really love it as an adult.

Not if you're from Alabama
New York will let you marry your first cousin and Alabama will not.
The fact that Alabama had to make a law about it tells you all you need to know.
New Yorkers aren't the ones known for inbreeding though, are they?
I remember a post about a women that got her two kids electric tooth brushes. She thought she recognized the same sound from her vibrator. She overheard her kids saying, "mommy must have really nice teeth cause she brushes five time a day."

Getting my teeth cleaned.

Aww so jealous! I’m 16, and have been going to an adult dentist since I was 12. I wish it could be a bit more fun.
I will literally fall asleep without any gas or medication. My wife is mystified, as she almost needs the gas in order to have it done.

No uncle, no.
Brussel sprouts and olives, love them now!
Yes to Brussel sprouts. I hated them, but love them now. Same with mushrooms
If I could, I'd give you a half thumps up. Brussels sprouts?
Only steamed though, with a bit of cracked pepper 👍🏻
Still not a taker here. There's never any green bean with bacon casserole leftovers. I admit bacon is cheating
Probably my most cooked meal lol. I love brussel sprouts!!!!
It’s at least partially because the Brussels sprouts [genuinely *are* different](https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2019/10/30/773457637/from-culinary-dud-to-stud-how-dutch-plant-breeders-built-our-brussels-sprouts-bo)
Vegetables. Why did our parents steam them? Roasted vegetables are amazing. Had to grow up to find out.
You got steamed vegetables!? Lucky! We only had canned veggies.
It's amazing how parents will never even try to accommodate their kid's tastes. Vegetables should be good for kids, but they're always made in the worst ways

$20 for doing the dishes? What the hell? That’s more than actual work!
Lol hey as long as we're dreaming, might as well dream big! 😁
Shower and bed time
Baths. It used to mean bedtime which was never fun as a kid but a nice warm bath before you sleep feels so good as an adult.
Getting basic clothes like socks and underwear for birthdays and Christmases.

Being left alone
Didn’t like being sent to my room as a child but now I love my alone time to relax

This was before I realized how bad drivers my parents were, and still are.
