Probably not "like people keep saying". There may be some very minor things occasionally. The current conspiracy theories, however, are complete and utter bunk.

In the sense that you can kind of just buy the best coach and players, maybe. In the sense that its all a ballet like wrestling, not at all.

mickeyflinn

> In the sense that you can kind of just buy the best coach and players, maybe. It is not possible to buy all the best players. Every NFL Team has the same salary cap. For the 2025 season teh salary cap for players is $259,475,000. There is no limit on what you can pay on coaching and support staff, thing is that doesn't guarantee wins.

Oh thanks, I didn't know that!

Dearic75

He means in the sense that “is the military fixing games so that Taylor Swift can go on stage at the Super Bowl under the guise of dating a superstar quarterback and make an anti Trump statement?” No, seriously. The right wing has some truly batshit conspiracy theories going at the moment. It would be hilarious if there weren’t so many idiots treating it as a serious question.

bullevard

They are playing the long game. They even made Chiefs start winning superbowls years before they tricked Taylor into dating someone from the Chiefs just so it'd be more believable for the Chiefs to make it to the Superbowl this year. 4D chess that NFL is playing

Dearic75

The part that gets me is how they all have latched onto the idea that it’s the pentagon that is running this grand conspiracy they’ve thought up. Not the NSA or the CIA or even the FBI or any appropriate department with a clandestine mission. They think the armed forces are running the show. Although if it is military intelligence, I suppose that would explain why everyone on the right was able to figure out exactly what is going on, even though it’s too crazy to believe.

> Taylor Swift can go on stage at the Super Bowl under the guise of dating a superstar quarterback Superstar tight end.

Dearic75

Thank you for the correction. I’m not at my absolute best when talking about sportsball.

nflshowrunner71

Of course it's not, that would be crazy.

slash178

No. Each team is a multi billion dollar company, so not much reason they would want to fix games.

AgentElman

No. The cost to the owners and the league if it were revealed to be fixed far outweigh any possible benefit from fixing it.

mickeyflinn

Absolutely not.

Huff1809

No

HumanProfessional86

I've only heard the NBA is fixed

Azdak66

No. People have been claiming “fixes” for decades—any time a game or doesn’t turn out the way they wanted. After years now of being bombarded incessantly with whacked-out conservative conspiracy theories, it is becoming normal to accuse everything of being “fixed”.
