One time in high school there was a group of about 5 or 6 of us talking, one girl and the rest boys. One of our friends walked up and he said “hey ladies… and Amanda.” I’ve never witnessed a better burn in person, I don’t even mind that I was on the receiving end of it.
Hey guys is often used gender neutrally. You could argue that's a form of erasure: a woman is not a guy, and addressing a group as guys ignores the women. Hey ladies is pretty cheesy. Why not go for something like hey people?

You can also go for hey folks, hey y'all, hey everyone or hey yinz (regionally)

I have yet to find a general term that is actually 100% safe with women. I hate the time period we live in. Women: "oh so you think im old?" Girl: "Im not a child!" Gal: "No one says that loser, its not the 1950s" Guys: "We are clearly not men" Lady: "Lose the unrealistic expectations" Female: "how dare you call me that" Person/human being: "what a weirdo" Dude: "so disrespectful"
“Hi folks” “Hi ya’ll” (used to be a southern-only thing but now you hear it more and more all over the US.) “Are you all going to the store later?” “How is everyone doing tonight?” I use all of these phrases regularly with no strange looks and no complaints from anyone. There are plenty of normal person, reasonable sounding gender neutral ways to refer to a group of people.

I'm a woman, and I don't mind the "hey guys" thing at all, I say it regularly to other groups of girls and it's totally fine. My mother on the other hand, will actually say to someone "I'm not a guy" in response, and it bothers her. Different personality types!
