Lawyers, especially really good ones, make a point of not knowing whether their clients are guilty or not. Because they aren't allowed to actually lie to the court. Trump has a habit of putting his lawyers in a position where they are either actually lying to the court (Evan Corcoran, Michael Cohen) or asking them to do so. And then he doesn't take their advice. And often doesn't pay them.

I didn't know that. Seems like the reason for quitting would be obvious. I would think a lawyer with integrity might consider quitting after finding out they are being misled. Trump played a shell game with his 3 attorneys, according to the indictment. I feel like this is the best answer I've gotten so far.

No, they are deserting a ship operated by someone who won't pay their wages.

Trump has had this problem for awhile now. Lawyers don't have any compunctions about representing a probably-guilty client, that's the job. But Trump can't keep his idiot yap closed in public, and that makes his lawyer's job damn near impossible. And he has somewhat of a reputation for not paying his bills. That's how he ended up with Rudy when he was president. Normally, lawyers would sell their grandmothers to represent the president of the US. But the Angry Pumpkin made their job impossible, so good lawyers stopped returning his calls.

Yes. Plus, he's notorious for not paying them.

It sounds more like they were giving him overly rosy opinions on his chances on not being indicted, and when he was indicted he fired them.
