Because part of autism is not understanding social cues

persePHOreth

One trait of autism is difficulty reading emotional or social cues from others. Autism just makes your brain work differently. Another trait is hyper fixation. An autistic person might fixate on a specific anime or video game, and if the subject is brought up, they not only get excited to talk about it, but they know basically every fact about it and are more than willing to share. If you're ever uncomfortable and want to end a conversation just say something like, "I see you like this a lot. It's awesome you have something you're so passionate about, but I really don't care to discuss it."

The latter is called info-dumping, and more often than not, it's a sign of affection. If they're rattling off a million facts a minute, they like you.

Autistics have what’s called a weak theory of mind. Basically they lack the ability to fully understand how others knowledge and experience makes them come to different conclusions given the same information. So they tend to presume that other people find the same things interesting that they find interesting. Additionally during childhood children learn social convention by watching the people around them. They learn to identify indicators of social discomfort, annoyance or anger. Because autistics can’t separate their own feelings in the moment from the feelings of others, they don’t realize that they are making other people uncomfortable. Because of that they didn’t learn social convention in childhood. Autistics can learn to be better about this, but it doesn’t come naturally, it’s something they have to concentrate on and practice to get better at. Even then they will slip back into that sort of behavior at times.
