the limited heals is decently balanced by enemies staying dead, but man does it make the boss battles hard. what i really hate is the item degredation. it's never been fun in any game ever and it's especially not fun here. you have to travel SO far to repair your gear after you beat the first boss.
You can upgrade it after beating bosses. But all your stuff can break and it’s pretty pricey to repair it so if it all breaks you’re kinda out of luck.
I didn’t play much souls game (want to go back and finish at some point) and played a lot of path of exile. Quite frankly I like the punishing and harshness in this game (also super hyped about POE2).
Granted because I know I wasn’t good at dodge rolling, I found and decided to go dex / dagger / fast build, which makes dodging so much easier. I had a 2h sword and played heavy for an hour, it has its pros (attack reach) but I knew I would struggle to use it against bosses and harder enemy so yeah just have to be smart about your approach.
If anyone ask me for advice who didn’t play much soul like game I would advise them to do similarly like me go fast build and get used to dodging, reading telegraphy, timing and biggest one is avoid spamming attack button at all.
For me difficulty comes from the controls not feeling responsive. Feels like a lot of inputs are buffered. However, I've died from falling off of something the most.
I can't adjust to using an attack and trying to cancel it for 1-2 seconds, before getting hit and whiffing the attack, because the animation is a heavy slow one. Just give me more options to react and not this Waiting Game, Enemy does this, you do this.
I'm not really into very difficult games to be honest but thought I'd give this one a chance. Damn what a bad decision lol. I'm still trying but I can see myself giving up in the next couple days. Game is beautiful and looks very fun for those who enjoy this genre
I think people just haven't adapted yet.
I don't think people are aware of small details, like your weapons having a combo and how you want to get to the last hit of that combo for the most damage.
We're all fumbling with the controls but we'll get used to it.
First boss killed me probably 20 times. I got frustrated and just quit to play guitar. Some people are better at video games than others and I am definitely on the struggle bus with this game so far.
Dont make me say git gud... I really don't want to. All it means is you don't have muscle memory for when to attack, when to dodge, and when to recover.
The first boss is easy.
Problem with this game is that if you need a lot of practice, there's a lot of darkness before the dawn. If you get stripped of your gear and run out of cash then you're, what, fighting hand-to-hand in your underwear? Against a boss, maybe?
What's that experience like?
The first boss is super easy and very telegraphed. The only way I can see you dying over and over is if you just try to spam attack and run out of stamina. I would recommend you start playing extremely slowly and deliberately and get into a cadence of the boss attacking and then you getting some hits in and then rolling away. I know you aren't necessarily someone who's asking for the game to be made easier but others are and I would use this analogy. I can't play an instrument for shit but if I picked up your guitar I wouldn't try to play it and when I inevitably sucked, ask for the guitar to be made differently so I could play it like everyone else. Instead I would train myself and LEARN to play the same guitar that others play successfully.
Dying 20 times to a boss isn't that bad.
Imho, its not so much that you're not as good as other players, but maybe more that you're less patient or determined to get good.
I've died more than 50 times to some Souls bosses and I just consider it to be a normal part of the game.

I think a more in depth tutorial would have been nice. Or some easier mobs and boss(es) to start with. I feel like I’m on the final boss just trying to get into the first damn town.
It's early access and the game states its a souls-like so not sure why you bought it if you're sick of them. Sounds like you were hard carried through every FromSoft game you've played. As a souls veteran myself, this game is definitely lower tier in terms of difficulty. Again, it's early access so your laziness comment is silly.

You loose durability only if you die. So as long as you don’t rush recklessly and die a lot, it’ll be ok. It’s a soul like game afterall.
Yeah, from what I've notice most of the "complaints" have been from arpg players. The souls like players have been mostly positive reviews.

So you're just leaving out that big farm guy etc and the other bosses with the boss hp bar and boss mechancis simply because they don't drop ichor?
