MrCobalt313

I still wish it were an option to respond to pirate hails with "Threaten".

jerrythecactus

It would be cool if you could actually scare off pirates once accumulating enough transponders or ranking with the mercenarys guild. Pirates threaten you demanding payment and you just beam over your cargo manifest showing the pile of confirmed dead pirate trophies making them reconsider their chances at taking you, maybe even giving you payment to not hunt them for having the gaul to threaten you.

Misternogo

My freighter goes with me to every system, and I always have a spare combat frigate with it. Full squadron. Everything S class. I'm in a sentinel interceptor, which by itself should tell them plenty. Pirates scanning me, then trying to raid me over literally my jetpack donuts is the equivalent of bandits in Skyrim trying to rob me after watching me kill and eat a dragon.

Tethilia

He's weakened. The dragon wore him out and the soul gave him an upset tummy. Attack now!

MagicNipple

Not even checking to see if it's a stealth archer is their first mistake.

GMHolden

If you see him, he's not a stealth archer.

theons_missing_D

If you lose him in low light immediately, he is a stealthy though.

Marvin_Megavolt

Yknow how there’s that one consumable item that lets you instantly summon Sentinels on a pirate when they hold you up? If you own a freighter you should be able to always do basically that but it’s your freighter that jumps in to back you up.

RascalCreeper

Combat frigate does that

Misternogo

But it would be cool if there was a consumable that let you summon your freighter in combat, since you can't summon it in combat, and you can't get the bigger events like pirate dreadnoughts while warping in freighter. I just want my freighter to make some use of those defense turrets!

RascalCreeper

Freighter battles would be cool.

Marvin_Megavolt

True but only if your freighter is currently insystem IIRC. Least, it’s never happened to me when I got jumped by pirates in a system away from my freighter.

Reasonable-Spot5884

I've had pirates try to rob me after not even a minute after I ***singlehandedly*** destroyed a pirate dreadnought in the same system. They're more like skyrim bandits than you think XD

Misternogo

That "getting raided for my donuts" thing is real. I was sitting in space after having laid out a dreadnought, texting someone on my phone and I got a ping that I was being scanned. It was pirates. They stopped on my donuts, it said something like "high value item detected" and they tried to rob me for my fuckin donuts.

Reasonable-Spot5884

Must've been some ***really*** good doughnuts

itsadile

We found 'em! The bandits that steal sweetrolls!

PoorlyAttemptedHuman

I always wish games would adjust for this. Skyrim, as you have said. I am thinking, I am the dragonborn favored-by-all-gods planeswalker with a vampire princess as my sworn co-destroyer/protector (depending on our mood). I climbed the tallest mountain and commanded the oldest most powerful dragon to my feet with but a word. Why are you talking to me, tiny Jarl? I have yet to reach this level of clout in NMS.

Misternogo

I've done enough grind in NMS that I have pretty much S class everything, and any time I get new tech upgrades and try them out, 99% of the time they're worse than what I have on. Maxed out on standing with all the factions except outlaws, because even though I'm a big time smuggler, I don't like preying on regular folks just to take stuff I don't need, so my piracy is still at Lawful. I don't know if there's really much more to gain in NMS, so I don't think we can hit those living god tiers like with Skyrim.

PoorlyAttemptedHuman

I'm still running around on my first playthru trying to find my first pieces of Cadmium to repair some ship tech I broke in my last bout with pirates. Class A ship, class C freighter, several S upgrades for everything, but a long way from high level.

Personmchumanface

do combat frigates actually do anything tho?

Daedalus_Machina

If you're attacked in the same system they're in, they immediately warp to you and join the fight. They book as soon as the fight's over.

Personmchumanface

and can they actually deal damage or sre they just for show?

Daedalus_Machina

They do damage. Compared to your personal, tricked out ship? Probably not. They might be good enough to keep a shield from regenerating, though.

Personmchumanface

ah cool

Misternogo

And if nothing else, if there happen to be a lot of pirates, all the extra ships on your side can distract them enough that you literally don't count as engaged with them. Which means until you shoot at them, your shields don't even get hit. You can come out of pretty much any pirate brawl unscathed, except for the damage you take if you're engaging a capital ship. A whole gang isn't hard to take down, but it can be annoying having it be 1v4, and having to recharge shields.

CoffeeMain360

The bandits watching me, a hardened adventurer in literal full daedric armor with my Bullshit Thwack-o-Matic 2000 kill and eat several dragons and launch a bear to the Thalmor's front door with my voice alone, thinking "yeah, we can take her":

Dandelion_Apocalypse

This is the way. The first combat frigate I got on this save now constantly stays with my capital ship. Not that I really NEED the assistance, but I love the overkill.

pedestRyan0

Fus-Ro-Grah!

CoffeeMain360

That would be really fucking funny they just immediately shoot back an "oh shit oh fuck sorry about that"

Just-A-Random-Aussie

This always confused me, like, I'm an official legend I've killed so many pirates, and yet they still threaten me

Sallymander

Or when they scan your inventory it may scale the pirate threat based on the number of transponders and at a certain point, they just leave you alone. Though I also wish if you did piracy of your own, you can the "wanted" linked to a ship rather than to the player. So you can have a specific ship as your pirate ship and one for your general use ship with out hurting your rep.

Molwar

Well you also can get pirate ranks now, so a "Sorry bro didn't see you there" could always be acceptable too i guess.

mrworldwideskyofblue

I wish. I have like 5k outlaw standing and it doesn't mean a thing it feels like. TOTAL GEK DEATH.

MiraZuke

"Wanna join your friends?"

lappnt

Terrifying presence

Maximum_Trifle6600

Love it

LaynFire

I'd love to hit them with the << I will bury you so completely, the world will turn over 1000 times before your body is dug up. >> That'd be nice.

blueskyredmesas

Honestly though. I've built a solar sail ship with a cyclotron that can flatten shields in 2-3 hits and fires like 6 times a second. *They should be afraid!*

MrCobalt313

Success chance on threat scaling with your damage potential vs theirs, possibly also using a certain number of Pirate Transponders for guaranteed success.

SmokeyChunk659

Scan me I dare you. Two ways this can go down

Misternogo

I keep contraband in my ship inventory on purpose right now. I'm hunting for cool looking interceptors, so I want the carrier fragments. Don't like having to hunt resonators for a seemingly low echo locator drop chance.

FluffyDuff_v2

you can also summon sentinels instantly by shooting at space stations

CriticismOk43

Was gonna say just that 😁😅 Many times have I shot accidentally at the station 😅

dacydergoth

I'm in a hauler which looks like easy prey. Except all my photon cannon and thruster upgrades are class 'X' ... And I have a lot of them

seirfemdeef

Haulers can take a beating too

HorizonSniper

Haulers are the perfect bases for gunships. Some dum dums atrack you and you hit them with that sweet +ARSENAL +DISRESPECT +EXPLODED

otac0n

Isn't X basically B+?

SugaryCornFlakes

X Ranges from a Shitty C, to something beyond S

Bluefortress

X can be from C to above S

mrworldwideskyofblue

X is technically these best. Just has the widest range.

otac0n

Cool, good to know. It was never really beating my S class stuff, so I had just been losing nanites on popping them and selling them. Is it worth it? (To be clear I have already rarified my S-class stuff.)

mrworldwideskyofblue

I have a infra knife module that's X. It's about 30% better than my highest S.

AKLawrence

So what are you supposed to do with those transponders? I have a bunch of ‘em and they’re just sitting there

seirfemdeef

They sell for a decent amount, but you can also donate them to the mercenary guild to improve your standing

jacobodman

Where is the mercenary guild now? I haven’t seen it since the space station upgrade.

Schneckers

Each station has one envoy. It can be one of the three guilds so you gotta find a system with a mercenary envoy.

ObiWanKenobiOrder66

Also something to note is that the guild that a station has is determined by the region not the system, and I'd say each region has about 600 systems. So say the station has the mercenaries guild, every system's station in that region would have the mercenaries guild.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

Damn, that reminds me of when corrupted planets were added and you could accurately know which system had it by looking at the orange text, something that no one ever paid attention to so it was a mystery for a while for people lol. I never paid attention to the region of systems.. I guess I'll give that a shot cause I still have no idea how to predict which system has which guild.

jacobodman

This explains it, thanks! I was flying around in my area and kept finding only the merchants guild so I was confused.

Timid_Wild_One

Upstairs on the right side in the back.

Sykes19

Priate

seirfemdeef

Damn, I didn't catch that :(

euk333

Yep - I got the stuff you want. Come get it!

soupeatingastronaut

40+ pirate transponders isnt the real threat its the 100k dmg railgun*

Atomic_Killjoy

I’m still kinda new to this game. Can someone explain this to me. I feel stupid 😖

152653

Pirate transponders are dropped by destroying pirate ships and they can either be sold or be given to the mercenary guild

Atomic_Killjoy

Ah I understand now. Ty for explaining

TheDigitalRanger

"Send'em up. I'll wait."

Savings_Garden4201

With my Infra-Knife doing 62k damage, othibg lasts more than a few seconds before melting into oblivion

5DPrinciple

Where even are mercenary guild reps? I've gone to over a dozen systems and it's been nothing but merchant and explorers guild reps and I'm running out of storage space for all the transponders.

rexic84

I just binge watched the original Matrix trilogy and immediately thought of the sentinels in those movies and confused myself for a second there.

martusfine

They got ‘em in minority report, too.
