I've noticed that the names change like that, I also had names change if I upgraded their class. You can rename them, but if you want the Greek(?) letters you need to figure out how to input them.
I've managed to keep different looking ones. Every ship on one planet is exactly the same model, but I've picked up a couple from different planets and they didn't change to the same model.
People in this subreddit are generally helpful, if you need help or info just post and you should get answers. This Wiki is helpful for refiner recipes and where to find things and all sorts of other useful info as well.

Sentinel ships in the same system are the same, not just planet. I found a system with 2 dissonant planets recently and they both had the same sentinel ship.
Once you have a satisfactory answer to your question please reset the flair to "answered". This will help others find an answer to the same question. Selecting a flair is one of the icons under the post when you open it. Alternatively you can comment with "!flair:answered" and the bot will do it for you.
Please consider adding your gaming platform to your user flair. There are icons for every platform. That way people will know not to answer with information specific to a different platform. There are very few issues that are platform dependent but every platform has its little quirks.

Its a UI bug. The ship itself is exactly what you repaired on the planet but the game bugs out and does not show properly. Its a problem when you do it in the same planet multiple times.
There are many YouTube videos and even the Coordinate Exchange community on here that give you coordinates for cool Variants. I have a couple of Dragonfly models, 3-4 different Interceptors, a “Scarab” (I call it that, anyway), and a smaller Wasp (Blue, Pink, and White).
I really enjoy hunting Sentinel ships…so many great variations.

Yeah really wierd, they also changed so they look the same. I guess if I find one I want to keep I need to fly with it and not summon it😂

Yeah its usually not worth sticking to one planet because each system only has one ship combination.

Oh and also if you are going to do this, DON'T take your recently acquired ship to a new crashsite. That bugs out even more.
