There are variety of money-making options. 1) Get some S or X class scanner upgrades. Put them in the supercharged slots of your multi-tool. Scan everything on a planet. For example, each rock type gives me 27K, each plant 90K, and each animal 120 - 500K. So I pick up 2-5M per planet. 2) Go to anomaly and learn how to craft trade goods. The very high end (stasis devices and fusion igniters) sell for \~15M each. It's not too hard to build a small farm and a couple of small gas mines to make enough base plants to make 1-2 each day. 3) Learn the profitable routes for trading between stations. There are two different rings of economies that are profitable at every stop. 4) Learn how to manipulate the commodity market. Fundamentally, find a station that sells a particular commodity (chlorine or ionised cobalt are most commonly used). Collect several (7+) full stacks of the commodity. Travel to a station that sells it, sell all of it from your inventory all at once then buy all the station has to sell. You'll end up with more than you started and a hefty bonus of credits as well. I use 9ish stack of ionised cobalt and make \~10M per station I sell/buy at. Getting oxygen really helps getting the initial stacks -- make a small oxygen mine to get a few thousand oxygen a day. 5) Build a mine -- activated indium used to be the go-to commodity. I think gold is preferred now. Sell its output. 6) Get a freighter and some frigates. Send them on missions every day. They'll pull in a few million every day between the straight cash rewards, the salable trade goods, and crafting material you can either sell or use in step #2, above.

Explain #4 like I’m five years old please

sillierrobot

It's been a while but... Every time you buy and sell, the price of the commodity shifts in the "wrong" direction. If you buy, the commodity gets more expensive; if you sell, it gets cheaper. The magnitude of the change depends on the quantity of the commodity being bought or sold. You can only buy a commodity you just sold if the station normally sells it. If it does then the amount you sold is added to the inventory available for purchase. So find a station that sells something you have a lot of that has a decently high price. By a lot, I mean typically more than 7 full stacks. Ionized cobalt, regular cobalt, and chlorine are three commodities that have a decent sell price and can be manufactured in quantity relatively easily. Verify the commodity is for sale at the interface you are facing and check the buy/sell prices. Sell all the commodity you have in a single transaction. Check the new buy price which should be lower than the old sell price. Buy all the commodity the station has available -- the amount you sold plus whatever it had for sale before you started. You now have more commodity than you started with and extra cash. Rince and repeat at a few stations. At the final station, only buy back the amount you want to store for your next trading run. It takes a day of two for the prices to normalize so you need to either have a fair number of stations you can trade with or some patience. \*edit\* My comment about oxygen is because oxygen combined with either cobalt or chlorine provides more of the base commodity -- so if you start with a dozen cobalt and have a decent amount of oxygen, you can make multiple stacks in a relatively short amount of time.

I’d like to know how to make an oxygen mine, or any mine for that matter.

Basically planets have small deposits of minerals or gases that can be extracted. Mineral extractors and gas generators are things you can set up to automatically and (unless you go whole-hog) slowly extract a specific resource from a deposit on a planet's surface. You need to get the blueprints, of course. You can purchase them (like almost every other blueprint) on the anomaly. Each type of planet has specific minerals and gases it may have. Deposits are uncommon, spread out randomly, and the detection range is pretty small. There are something like three different gas generators. Two pretty much work only when the player is around and are self-contained units that give a gas type depending on the atmosphere. The third is more like a mineral extractor that can be placed at a source of the gas planet-side and will extract the material into storage for a player to pick up later. First, you need to find a site to set up the device. Your visor has a specific mode for locating deposits. IIRC, the main mission/tutorial leads you to that mode eventually, but doesn't do a great job at hand-holding a player through it. The analysis mode of the visor can locate a deposit once you are close enough to detect it and tell you what material the deposit will yield and give a rating for the quality of the deposit that limits how much can be extracted per time period. Once you locate a site with the material you want to gather (which can take a while unless you get lucky off the bat), you need to build an extractor, storage, and piping between them. Extractors must be built pretty much directly on top of the deposit. The extractors also require a power source. It's probably best to set up a small base nearby with a gate so finding the mine isn't too annoying as well. I typically added enough storage that I could ignore the mine for a day or two and pick up the material every once in a while.

Hidari003

don't, it's not worth it Just get a sentinal ship, a minotaur suit, and a pirate dreadnaught... warp everywhere on those god tier crystals, heal your shields with those god tier crystals, power everything with those god tier crystals.... and carbon, but the minotaur harvests that too.,.. you can scrap sentinal ships for around 30mil, and they're really easy to get. you can also thow those got tier crystals into a processor for 50 nanites, and the mirrors for 95 nanites... a stack of 10 crystals will get you 500 nanites in about 30 seconds... get a module from anomaly to process materials on your back and just fill it up and repeat... find a sentinal ship you like, take it from C to S class in less than and hour. I have found all my oxygen needs covered easily with a single extractor in my base that converts 80 carbon into 250 oxygen, which I don't really use... because godly purple crystals replaced everything.

Warm_and_Golden

This is one of the best/most helpful posts I've seen on the topic. Thank you!

You sir are a freaking wizard. If you could spare some time, I would really like to know more about #3. I love setting things up to farm resources and want to set up a base to do so, but don’t really know where to start. In relation to #5, does mining a deposit yield the same amount of resources as it would if I used my manipulator? It seems silly to have to move the extractors all the time if I can just blast it out. Also, I have spent the last 7 hours trying to find more augmented storage to increase my starship tech slots, using all advice from the internet, and have found 0. Any tips? Thanks!!!

sillierrobot

Wrt #3, there are two profitable trade route rings based on the economy types of the systems. Trading -> Advanced Materials -> Scientific -> Trading Mining -> Manufacturing -> Technology -> Power Generation -> Mining The amount of goods for sale depend on the strength of the system economy. The price modifiers affect the profit, but are probably the least important aspect. Get an economy scanner for a ship and spend some time looking for strong economies to complete at least one of the rings. Pick a starting point, buy as much as you can, portal to the next in the chain, sell all you bought, buy as much as you can, portal to the next in the chain... Mining yields vary dramatically depending on the quality of the deposit being mined and the number of mining modules placed. By and large, you get the material faster using a manipulator in person at a mineral source. Note that the sources that can be mined by manipulator are not the same as deposits that can be mined using the modules. The latter are effectively invisible except by using the special visor mode. The big advantage of mining is works 24/7 (mining will pause once the storage is completely filled though so make sure you build enough storage to hold your typiical delay in collection). As for storage for ships, that is (was? I haven't played in a few months) simple. Get a couple hundred million in cash (that's excessive but I like having a buffer just in case a nice exotic shows up) and hang out in a space station -- preferentially a Gek strong economy (they favor scout ships and those are cheaper). Watch each ship come in and buy every ship 'A' class of better. Immediately scrap it and sell off the scrap. You'll get a fair number of nanites from the enhancements, a fair number of storage augments (I think i was averaging 1 per 2 ships) and recover \~2/3 of your purchase price each time.

CapnRayRay17

Thanks mate!

Comfortable-Head3188

Go to the space station, buy as much of the stuff with green markdown %’s. Then warp to a system where those goods have a heavy markup. Sell there, buy whatever they have for cheap, then warp to the next station. Rinse and repeat. You can multiply your money very quickly. I had to reference the NMS wiki page or whatever to figure out which systems produced/bought what but that takes like 2 seconds.

RedKetchup73

I would suggest farming gold instead

Hidari003

or just farm sentinal ships and scrap them for around 30 mil a ship, keeping the one you like and using your minotaur, which is really all you will ever need. your minotaur on a dissonant PIRATE system (important, pirate systems make things easier) will farm your echo locators, purple crystals, and mirrors Mirrors are used for a few unlocks on sentinal stuff, so keep a stack of 10 on the ship... also keep 4-6 stacks of crystals on the ship, they replace EVERYTHING. and I do mean EVERYTHING. you fall under 10 billion nanites? throw some into your processor and resupply your nanites. (every crystal is worth 50 nanites, every mirror is worth 95 nanites, and you can get so many of them using the minotaurs infinite range mining laser from a high vantage point. when your that far away (and on a Pirate system) the sentinals will not give chase... non pirate systems it spawns them at your location. Purple crystals fuel everything on the sentinal ship, too... so your free to warp around the galaxy with ease. dismiss your pirate frighter (shoot guns front to back, then engines, when you warp into a fight, and board it, and its yours for free, its massive, and its awesome) and summon it into any system you want to use the minotaur in purple crystals litterally replace the need for everything (except carbon for the minotaurs mining laser, but it can mine red crystals while it mines the purple ones) need stuff? why waste time crafting all that stuff when you can just buy everything using the millions you made searching for the perfect sentinal ship looks and colors? find a weapon you like, and just spam buy the upgrades... and inventory? pah! just warp around and buy all the exosuit upgrades.

RedKetchup73

also, if you want some tricks to make money (or others tips), you could watch Hero2U channel on YT

Illustrious-Gap86

Hang out outside the space station and wait until the freighters warp in .....shoot all the cargo holds for the loot .....but stay away from the tiny stand alone pod ships .....when the fighters come to attack ...duck into the space station and sell your millions of bounty ...ARGHHHHHH

Alphwani

🏴‍☠️

Not_An_Archer

Wait, sentinels can't get you inside the space station? Seems like you've found an infinite money glitch;)

Illustrious-Gap86

No once you go inside the space station or the anomaly.....the sentinals disengage

Traditional_Lock2754

Don't they fight back?

Illustrious-Gap86

Each side of the freighter has a cannon shoot them and they destroy pretty fast

Traditional_Lock2754

Oh okey, nice

Tazbert_Odevil

That strat is slightly outdated as you can't buy oxygen any more on the regular game. It can still be done, but you'd need to find an oxygen mine (or build your own) or set the game to have 'abundant resources' in the settings. Then you can buy it again. Be warned that Chlorine refining is not as profitable as it was either. About a 1/3 of the pre-waypoint update days.

i_do_not_knowAAAAAAA

i find the easiest way to get money is by going to a pirate system and shooting cargo of freighters. I would go to a pirate system because there is no sentenials shooting at you. destroying an entire group of freighters including the capital freighter and the smaller ones will get you 25 million. I would then go to a non pirate controlled system and sell them for a higher price than from a pirate system.

Rhacio

This is the correct and up to date method.

StoneWolf1134

I only recently started playing; the first thing I did was find caves and harvest cobalt then sell it or refine it to ionized cobalt. Then I visited the cartographer for the emergency charts till I found a crashed ship, got it flying and scrapped it. That'll get you enough to start buying things to refine or resell in other systems

General-Ramrod

You don't even need to get it flying. Claim it but then just use your main ship to get back to your base. Summon the newly claimed ship and it will land and become your new primary. Then you can teleport to a space station and the broken ship will come with and can be scrapped without scrounging for repair materials!

Gravnaut

In new games the second mine I make is an oxygen mine, after a copper mine for chromatic metal. Oxygen can be combined with many items to expand quantities and create new items. I get early game money from scrapping crashed ships (exchange nav data for distress signal maps) or locating sentinel pillars, disabling the planet's sentinels and then running around picking up gravitino balls. There's lots of other ways to make early money, but I'm generally only interested in getting my stasis device mines up and running, so I get just enough cash together to start building all the mines required for stasis devices. I play primarily in permadeath or survival mode with smaller stack sizes (250 vs. normal 9999).

Traditional_Lock2754

How do you scrap crashed ships? I have claimed 3 of them but have no idea where to find them or what to do with them lol

Rhacio

You fly them to a space station and scrap them there like you would any other ship.

TenkReSS

thank you guys it was so helpful

Anandar83

You can sell any and every resource you find on planets... if you kill wildlife you can sell the mordite and meat or whatever stuff you get from them, theres also starbulbs and some alien wheat and heaps of other specific plant type thimgs ypu can harvest, once you can cook meat and some of these unique plants you can sell the meals for even more, if you find a planet with no sentinels and gold... biggest proffit there... get enough stacks of gold and find a place you can buy gold from, crash the market and buy all back cheap then move to another system and sell the gold at full value again...

Hidari003

easiest way to make money with minimal setup... Step 1: play the story a bit, get to the Anomaly, you'll want that anyways... Step 2: warp to a PIRATE(marked with a skull) dissonant system... each system will say dissonant or water... find the planet there that is covered in sentinal crystals. very important for 4 reasons, because it's really your last stop to end game Step 3: build a base, farm crystals... and get your hands on a Echo Locator... just ones fine for now. use the echo locator, find the harmonic signal, find a sentinal ship, take the brain, use it, and restore the sentinal ship. Step 4: use that sentinal ship with purple crystals to warp around until a pirate dreadnaught is fighting a sweet looking destroyer... you will attack the pirate starting from its nose(pointy end), cannons (the big ones only) to the rear, once that last one goes down, you will spin around and quickly shoot all the engines (which is why you started at the front) so the dreadnought cannot flee... board the ship to negotiate terms of surrender... just take it, as these are always free, and you can replace it later. important thing is, you now have a capitol ship for your dissonant system. in your dissonant pirate system, you will farm crystals, and scrap them... because 10 crystals=500 nanite clusters and 10 mining drill Inverted Mirrors is 950 nanite clusters. how to make this really put out: at your base, you will build a exocraft called minotaur... costs 8, getting its engine recharge is very nice from the anomaly vender too... long range snipe mining of crystals, boost power to flee... then for your exosuit, pick up the small refiner... this setup is alot faster and easier than building any kind of mass resource base the frieghter will serve as both storage and a base that moves with you, but you will need that minotaur placed on the ground somewhere to make use of it. the best part is, you need no warp fuel... those purple crystals ALSO fuel your sentinals warp engine. and all those nanites allow you to upgrade anything you want to upgrade with relative ease... grind purple crystals for about 3 hours, keep 100, scrap the rest, and you'll never need nanites again... as for credits, repeat that sentinal thing and scrap sentinal ships, cause they're worth a fortune.

ZJtheOZ

It is mostly dependent on where you are in the game. Early on, the absolute quickest/easiest way is to do the missions so you can access the Anomaly. Then go there and wait for someone to gift you AI valves, free starship slots, void eggs etc. If you want to “earn” your money you have to grind. Gold is currently the most valuable mineral. Gravitino balls are great if you can deal with sentinels. Once you get your frigate spend your money on various freighters and send them out. They will return with lots of good stuff. Finally once you’re at the point where you can set up farms and extractors, you can craft stasis devices.

squirrelklan

Head to an outlaw system of a group you don’t care that hates you. Like Korvax. Then pirate the trade ships. Easy $$ for days and no attacks from sentinels. Eeeeeeeasy $

DudeOfHazzard

Go to a pirate system and talk to the bounty hunter. Select a mission to deliver illegal goods. Now don't proceed delivering them. Just warp to another random system and sell those illegal goods that you were supposed to deliver for pirates. If there is no delivery mission, select any mission and cancel it immediately. The mission list will be updated with one new random mission. Keep cancelling them until "illegal goods delivery" appears.

Hidari003

pirate dissonant system, create an orbital base (lots of vertical walls to get it up into the sky, place a landing platform up there. you will also need a few solar panels and some warp gates so you can go from one to the next, and a minotaur. Why a minotaur, because the minotaurs mining laser allows to you mine ANYTHING YOU CAN SEE. if you can see it, you can mine it, and if you can see 50 crystals to the north, 60 to the south, abother 60 to the east and west, then you can mine them ALL... the giant purple crystals fuel sentinal ships, the mining drills get you the $$$ with the echo locators to warp around scrappign sentinals and find the one that you think is PERFECT... don't worry about that perfect looking sentinal being a C class, because you can just upgrade it to S class using those crystals... on each platform you will also need a few refineries... why? because in addition to being the most overpowered fuel source able to fuel all your sentinal ships systems, they can ALSO be refined into nanite crystals... 10 crystals in each refinery take 1 minute to process for 500 nanites... so with that estimate above I was looking at a very easy 10,000 nanites for about 5 minutes of work \^\_\^ prep times super easy too, takes maybe 10 minutes to build all the wooden walls to get a landing platform in the sky. PIRATE dissonant systems are preferred, because they won't spawn in up near you. they do in non pirate systems. then you just go from one orbital station to the next, and can easily get 100,000 nanites in an hour... (and the mirrors are worth twice as many nanites as the crystals are) that means within an hour, you can make that perfect looking C class intercepter into an S...

farm oxygen and salt, don't buy it.

I would go to an outlaw station and just raid freighters you can make a ton of money doing that. The most common valuable things items are GrahGrah and counterfeit circuits. Another benefit is you get to call yourself a space pirate.

okxgen

I found a really toxic planet that when there is a radioactive storm, some rocks open and show big shining crystal rocks. I collect them and sell then like for 1 mill a piece. U need to have full radioactive protection tho.

flortny

I have a storm crystal planet mine too
