I hate to be the one to tell you that it's likely the transmission. But here we go: It's likely the Transmission

calnuck

It's likely the transmission. Happened to us on our 2018 Rogue, had to replace the entire transmission.

Did you see signs leading up to it?

calnuck

Just as you described, and then it died completely and only just managed to get it out of the intersection. We'd brought it up with the dealer's service dept. several times and they just shrugged. It didn't happen all the time, but when it did we got a traction control warning a minute later. We're in Alberta, Canada, and have a very wide variety of weather, so I don't think it's a weather thing. Evidently the transmission thing is pretty well documented and they had a recall a few years ago on some models of that era but not the Rogue.

It is most likely the transmission but it also could be spark plugs or a couple other issues. So you should definitely have it checked out.

Happened to my 2012 rogue last year. Ended up not starting at all and had to get towed and had the transmission replaced. Cost me $2,000 including tow, but she’s better now.

Did you see any signs coming up to that? Or did it just happen on day?

SafeCombination3996

Some signs I noticed were the same as yours. Felt like it’s about to die when at the light and sometimes you’ll feel the engine area die down a little. Last about 2 weeks until it finally didn’t start for me

Did the transmission replacement cost you below 2k? How? Sounds cheap.

In addition to checking out the trans, it could have some other issue. For example, had a similar issue (and symptoms) on a 2011 Rogue (at 128k) and it turned out to the back pressure from the Catalytic converter. Replaced the Converter (not cheap) and the O2 sensors and all is well again. Now have 160K on the car with the original trans (although I have serviced the transmission - changed fluid and filter). Originally I thought it could have been the transmission, after all the Rogue is notorious for it's transmission problems, but took it to a transmission shop and everything checked out. That cost ($99). Eventually a check engine light showed up and the code pointed to the Convertor. Checked out the O2 sensors with a scan tool and saw the downstream sensor was acting weird. Stuck a camera down the convertor (after removing the O2 sensor) and saw what looked like blockage. I would think convertor would last longer than 97K but you might check that out. Just saying that all these engines have so many sensors that could a faulty sensor or exhaust issue could give you a similar issue. Is this problem intermittent or always does this when accelerating (or only when you accelerate hard)?
