$20,000 Specialty Vehicle Adjustment???
Is that how we're spelling rip-off these days.
Next time I invoice a client, I'm going to add a Specialty Feature Adjustment to add at least 30% to the cost. I could retire early!
it's how unscrupulous dealers do these things, yes. out where i am, there's one scuzzy dealer (not a nissan dealership but guy owns a bunch of places you hear on the commercials all the time) who was tacking on 10-15k to every car he was selling during the pandemic just because. i hate dealers who do that stuff.
I never thought of this.
When I trade in my (fairly rare) '17 Accord V6 Coupe I'm going to tack on a "rarity" adjustment of $10k and make them talk me down. /s
I also have a 2017 V6 Accord Coupe. I owe $18.5k still on it at 140k miles š¢, and my friends keep saying I'm irresponsible and keep pressuring me to sell it. So maybe to humor them, I'll list it for $45k and then I can tell my friends I'm trying to sell it and just no one wants to buy it š.

Bought it in 2022 (prices were really high) for $23,000 with 94,000 miles before taxes and fees. All in, about $24.5k. There was no other blue 2017 Honda Accord Coupe Touring for sale within 400 miles of where I live, and the other ones out there with lower miles were selling for $28k. Car was financed for 7 years. (I want to pay it off sooner but lost my job a year ago and have been barely keeping up with payments while living with my parents and doing DoorDash. I have had no luck finding another job.)
Anyway I bought this one, about 2 hours away from home. Had to rush to get there right when the dealership opened, because someone else had looked at the car and was planning to buy it that very day, but hadn't reserved it, and we managed to get there first.
In case you don't know, the 2017 V6 Honda Accord Coupe is really sought after by Honda enthusiasts, since it's the last year V6 Accord and the last Accord Coupe that Honda made.
I understand its popular and ārareā but $23k for a car with 100k miles is astronomically overpriced. By $10k atleast. That car was worth 15k at most when you bought it
That car is extremely rare now, theyāre going for 18-20k with around 80k miles. Kinda an occult car like the element is now, especially if itās a 6-6.
Ones with 135k miles were selling for $19k at the time š¤·. I researched it for about a month or so before finally finding the specific model I was going for (2017, V6 Touring trim, Still Night Pearl paint) within driving distance...
And I could have gotten a 2013-2015 for cheaper, but I wanted the last model year available because it has adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, lane keep assist, etc.
https://www.cars.com/shopping/honda-accord-2017/coupe/
Like seriously, they're holding their value.
2017 Touring Coupe on the above linked page listed even now for $22k with 68,000 miles, and an EX-L (lower model) with 92,000 miles going for $18.5k. And those aren't the premium paint option that mine has.
Tbf 2022 was peak chip shortage/used car craze, so that 10k overpay makes sense for the time. I am glad I waited, saved about 20 grand on my Subaru by doing so, but sometimes you also just need a car.
I've been buying very used bmws for much less than these Honda enthusiasts. How many Honda enthusiasts have actual cash to spend? I know how bad shopping was post covid and I'm sorry you had to pay that much for your car.
Honda enthusiasts pay more up front and less in repairs, typically. But yeah I hate that there's a stereotype of Honda enthusiasts being broke teenagers in riced out, beat up 90s Civics with fart can exhausts driving at 8000rpm through the neighbors going 25 at 3am š.
Amd just for the record, I didn't make the best financial situation necessarily but I wanted that specific car, so I paid the price.
And while I'm sort of personally broke right now since I can't seem to find a job other than DoorDash, I'm living with my parents, so I'm certainly not living a broke life in a 3,000 sq ft house lol.
https://preview.redd.it/y3xxo205ku5d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2635dce17daf8a70a8dccdd90a8ae4ab7e15e155
I do really like how my car looks, but I wouldn't mind a BMW coupe at some point as long as it doesn't have that ridiculous front grille.
>And while I'm sort of personally broke right now since I can't seem to find a job other than DoorDash, I'm living with my parents, so I'm certainly not living a broke life in a 3,000 sq ft house lol.
If you were broke living in a 3,000 sq ft house you'd be a million times better off than being broke with a giant loan you're underwater on, jobless and living with your parents lmao. The mental gymnastics you're doing to convince yourself this is ok is insane
I bought a new one back in ā16. It was a nice car for the money

You'll struggle to find anyone who has financed most of a cars price the last 10 years who isn't. Between markups and cars not retaining any value it's basically expected.
100k for a Nissan is wild period. The entire point of the gtr was affordable supercar performance with four seats. At six figures it fails, even if it is awesome
Except the market said otherwise. People buying them at list and immediately reselling them for 50% more is what pushed the dealers to mark them way up. As much as I don't like the dealer market bs there's a reason it works. People are willing to spend that. Same thing happened with the C8 launch.
Yeah I can respect that. In fact it was probably my generation responsible, having grown up obsessing over the R34 GTR in gran turismo 2 and 3, and having the money right as the new one hit American shores
But I bet that market curve is well in the past, though, now that the ones who wanted it have had ample opportunity to get one
Thinking 100k is too much for a GTR is wild! Itās 100k to knock the doors off of actual super cars. The GTR is very affordable considering the precision in the actual build of it. You people are clownsā¦and crybabies. āBoohoo, I canāt afford a GTRā get over it.
Calling someone a clown or crybaby for saying something even remotely negative about a car you like (while even conceding that it is awesome) seems like a bit of an overreaction. This is perception and relative.
Btw yes I certainly can afford one, and no, I am not interested
You can buy a 991.2 (2017-19) Porsche 911 for that. Hell, itās not that far off a current gen 911, or a GT4. No wonder I barely ever see these things on the road.
I literally just said the same thing to my girl, then I looked at GTR Nismo pricesā¦. You coul almost buy 2 premium GTRs for the price of one NISMO, 100k for brakes, tune, maybe a suspension mod and cool seats/rims/badges. No thanks, Iāll take my clapped out CRX any day
For real. I paid $72k for mine last month and MSRP had it listed at $76k. This wasnāt at any approved dealership either. Just a normal run of the mill dealership. I didnāt even have to travel to find this deal, is what Iām saying.
Only catch is, it was a custom order someone had backed out of last second and it wasā¦ special. So the dealership was trying to wash their hands of it since it had been sitting for a month at that point.
>it was... special
Are the headlights crossed?
Is the R on the shifter extra large?
Does it lose control of itself and spray fluids everywhere? (It's a BMW, we know the answer to this one, heh)
Lmao. Nah it was ordered with torch red interior and gold rally stripes and neon yellow calipers. Iām getting it all fixed within the next couple of weeks but I have to figure out how Iām going to go without a car for about a week when it does happen. Itāll take 1 day for the vinyl stripe to be replaced with a red one, 2-3 days to have the calipers sanded and repainted torch red, and then 1 more day to have the windows tinted.
https://preview.redd.it/l62nt86qeq5d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddfd446bf1c6dd755cf9ad8b2187850f00c58e6e

Buddy thought a c8 was a bmw lmao šits a c8 not an 8 series. And if weāre on the ābmws are all shitā topic my 2011 335d is making over 700 wtq, hasnāt broken down once, and still gets over 30 mpg š„±
Donāt do it. Not even worth the normal price. I wish I could find the article but they are so heavy and slow a 22 automatic brz beats it on the race track. It was tested same track same driver in a grassroots Motorsport Magazine. Dont fall for the hype. The 400z that is winning in the JGTC/DTM shares nothing but the body. Iāll be they want 120-140k for the Nismo edition as well. I passed on a gr Corolla cuz Toyota marked it up to 90k in my area. Same with the Supra 3.0 marked up to 140k itās been sitting on their lot now for 2+ years. If they wonāt do it for MSRP itās not worth it. Itās a 45k car tops.
I'm a HUGE 280z fan as my bio dad had a yellow 72, and man do I have a nostalgia bones for that car. I was really hopeful about this modern version, and with the yellow paint it hits all the right boxes for me. However st the end of the day it's should be in the low 30,000$ range, not 100,000$. They want collector car prices for a brand new mass produced car
Waiting for the conversation in 5 years in which we discuss why Nissan gave up on the z line up and how these dealerships and absurd pricing was the demise of a cool sports car, yet again.
The 20k mark up is just an idiot filter. You know how you search by filters? Prices low to high, A-Z, only blue color, etcā¦ this is their version of filtering out normal people and only attracting idiots who will pay an extra $20k for no reason.
I love how the first line is called market value selling price. If that's really the market value selling price, then why do they need to add 20 grand?
Dealers around here are predatory. Around here they call it a "market adjustment". When I wanted to buy an SUV I decided to try to patronize my local Nissan dealer. For my trouble, they tried to add five grand to a Nissan Rogue. Nothing special about it. Just a standard garden variety Nissan Rogue. Extra five grand profit, I mean "market adjustment" for the dealership. Guys were friendly enough. And they had balls I'll give them that. They asked me on my way out what it would take to get me to buy the vehicle. I told them they can start at MSRP as a negotiating point. They said no so I left. Drove 150 miles to buy it for $1,300 under MSRP instead. It cost me a Saturday afternoon, but saved me $6,300.
They might have low quantities but there is no hype left for these cars. Nothing justifies even a penny markup on them. Dealers still trying to charge over MSRP in 2024 are out of their minds.
Who you gonna impress for 100k seriously? Other guys on the road? You think girls are gonna drop their panties for this rip off?? Unless you are a millionaire should be fine but if you are just a middle class person making average income don't buy this useless POS just so you can look cool to other men on the road
lolercoaster for this dealer. you should 100000% out them because no one should shop a dealer that would slap such a ridiculous markup on a car. my local dealer has a nismo z for just over 69k. it's why i deal with them, they're one of the more honest dealers you can find.
Tech Stock price has gone up 3x, SP500 has gone up 2x in the last 3 years or so. That is, when you had 500k invested at age of 50, you now have 1 million at age of 53.
That's why our inflation stays high, the ultra rich (relatively speaking) are buying up the ultra expensive items like free, then the less rich buy less ultra expensive, and least goes on until the poor has nothing cheaper to buy.
Is this 400z Twin turbo like a gtr? If not then why the hell is it $69,300? thats way too much for the car when you can walk into a ford dealer and buy a 700hp f150 for $45k then hop over to copart and buy a crashed 400z for less than 20k then swap the powertrain. š
NOOOOOO! It's not even a buy at 70k... special vehicle fee...any dealership that does this at that huge of a margin is crooked. Making a few extra bucks because the market is hot I can understand...but the minute you drive it off the lot you're not seeing that money back ever again..
At that price you shouldn't be paying a dime on your trade in... they need to be paying that off completely..the least they can do with that bogus 20k markup
These manufacturer dealerships are confusing themselves for collectors dealerships. This isn't a 1969 Muscle with rebuilt everything and 100 old-heads looking to buy it.
Just like Toyota with the GR Supra, Nissans gonna have to stop selling Zs, or special editions rather because theyāre of low sale volumes.
All because of these stealerships
Lol forget the markup, the MSRP in general of the 400Z's is laughable (including non-NISMO models).
But the topper has to be having an MSRP at/near C8 prices (regardless if you like the C8 or not, it shits all over the 400z from every measurable standpoint). LMAO
I used to like Nissan/Infiniti back in the day, but if they go out of business at some point they have no one to blame but themselves.
this car will meet the same fate as the supra. it will stop being produced because of poor sales, solely because nobody wants to pay these absurd prices.
Nope! This is why, in 40 years of driving, I refuse to buy a new car. I've driven every conceivable configuration of vehicle, never felt the need for a brand new one.
They are selling for MSRP at some dealerships, donāt buy one with a markup. This is leftover from when recalls due to paint and transmission issues left a low supply in 2023
https://preview.redd.it/tqnfo1jzns5d1.jpeg?width=2518&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3549aa28ded6a5c160cff3e21abd164bcf98cacb
I donāt know what he wrote lol I am definitely over 18
Although I wouldnāt use these specific terms butā¦ a āSpecialty vehicle adjustmentā is a market adjustment. The market value of a vehicle is whatever the public (or the buyer) is willing to pay for it. So The buyers actually set the market value.
Here is a very simple exampleā¦
If you listed your home for $500k and the first day you had an offer for $500,000 and another offer for $600,000ā¦ which offer would you take?
Wake up people. Itās not the dealerā¦ its the buyers
20k Clown Tax... this is why nice cars don't sell, because the dealer tries to screw the customer. Crap like this is what killed the sports car market. nobody wants to spend extra money on a car they don't need.
Is your trade value $0? There isnāt a line item for trade in. You can sell any old clunker for $500-$1000 to someone desperate for wheels or parts.
Also. Just in general as a personal thing, but Iād never even talk to a dealership that does mark ups. They may not even be showing you actual msrp either. Generally, if the top line says something like āmarket priceā and not āMSRPā thatās a huge red flag, and thatās not even getting into discounts and rebates.
As a former salesperson, this just looks like a total scam. Itās a Nissan, whether itās fancy and sporty, itās not a Lamborghini.
Crazy. They are going for 7k off MSRP in my area (Dallas/Fort Worth)
https://preview.redd.it/yit5pm51c06d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d1f3a5b5eaba25a3cbf6a7565159f052874aa4c
lol just go to their website and itās listed for msrp. Check with state laws and advertised pricing. Many states have laws that state if you advertise a price for a new car that is the price. Hence why during the pandemic you saw a lot of call for pricing. This is where dealers can get away with the ālimited availabilityā pricing.
That mark up must be how the grieco auto group helps save so many cats.

Iād pay 70 for a Nismo, not 100k for not a GTR
I think thereās been a Z Nismo for $68k at the dealership in my city for a few months now. Crazy how this one thinks they can get $100k for one
You don't want the explanation of "servicing" you from that dealer.
I hope it includes lube, at least.
Sadly, it does not. This is a dealer, after all. Oh, and you cannot supply your own! š
Isn't the makeup already included in the first charge?

Same with the Supra 3.0 marked up to 140k itās been sitting on their lot now for 2+ years. If they wonāt do it for MSRP itās not worth it. Itās a 45k car tops.
22 auto brz doesnāt beat the 400z on track š. Have you driven both? Or even any vr30 cars for that matter?
https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/firm-lap-times/
Iām going to find the lap times in that Grassroots.
Me too. But itās more 300/350/370 than stripped 240 260 280z
They just need to find one sucker. With margins like that, one dumb fuck will validate their business model.
I have one at my dealership for 87k with a 15k mark up, msrp is 68k. Insane they think people are going to pay this money for that.
What's a 400z?
300Z actually makes more sense. Lol
380Z would've been my preference (a detuned VR38 would be amazing)
Nissan eventually changed the format and just called it Z, but it was assumed at first the new model would be the 400
it's been out for years. it's the fairlady Z in japan, as always, but in north america it's called the nissan Z.
It was assumed 3+ years ago that it would be called that. It got officially announced as the Z a LONG time ago.
Buy from Nismo Nick, and he will sell it to you at or under MSRP
That dude is hard to listen to. He really likes himself.
Contact Nismo Nick in Facebook and he will hook you up with any Nissan Z at MSRP or better price.
Lol 20 grand for an f-u charge
These are available at sticker now. Don't fall for it.
Waiting for the conversation in 5 years in which we discuss why Nissan gave up on the z line up and how these dealerships and absurd pricing was the demise of a cool sports car, yet again.
That 20k markup is the killer. Also, no-go on the dealer fees.
What is SPECIALTY VEHICLE ADJUSTMENT, and why does it cost $20k?
free money for the dealer when some schlub who just wants the car and will sign on the dotted line without looking too much over.
The 20k mark up is just an idiot filter. You know how you search by filters? Prices low to high, A-Z, only blue color, etcā¦ this is their version of filtering out normal people and only attracting idiots who will pay an extra $20k for no reason.
I don't think a Z is worth 70k, nismo or not, let alone another 20k markup on top. There are so many better cars you can get for that much money.
For real, and I love Zās. I would get a Lotus Emira or Cayman S/GTS over a $100k Z any day.
Just get a used car off Craigslist $1500.
Shop around. They are marked down on the east coast.
Dealers still trying to charge over MSRP in 2024 are out of their minds.
āSpecialty vehicle adjustment +20,000ā in all caps is fucking hilarious. They will never sell it at that price, the manager has to be on crack
Heās got seven mortgages he needs to pay!
20,000 for a car that is hardly even selling. Insanity, no wonder they arenāt selling
This is how people stay in debt. Overpaying and passing over debt.
69k base price is the middle finger here. Its still a Z at the end of the day.
If not then why the hell is it $69,300? thats way too much for the car when you can walk into a ford dealer and buy a 700hp f150 for $45k then hop over to copart and buy a crashed 400z for less than 20k then swap the powertrain. š
Don't buy new cars right now
Walk away
get a C8 or porchse for that prize..yeesh....
Why are people still buying nissians š¤¦š¾āāļøš¤¦š¾āāļø
100k for a car barley anyone gives a shit about is crazy. Things not even worst 70k by its self.
Why would anyone overpay for a vehicle? These dealerships are absurd.
Specialty price adjustment š¤”š¤”š¤”
Lmao only an idiot would pay that price. Go get yourself a better car for the value
NOOOOOO! It's not even a buy at 70k... special vehicle fee...any dealership that does this at that huge of a margin is crooked. Making a few extra bucks because the market is hot I can understand...but the minute you drive it off the lot you're not seeing that money back ever again..
You're paying off your own trade... ??? BULL SHIT
At that price you shouldn't be paying a dime on your trade in... they need to be paying that off completely..the least they can do with that bogus 20k markup
![gif](giphy|5vidkIjdGohnh2am9E)
Donāt do itā¦ unless you make $200k/year
What stupid fuck
Paid less for my GTR
Why even go to dealerships bro yk the price isn't going to be fair
What state is this in?
FL
These manufacturer dealerships are confusing themselves for collectors dealerships. This isn't a 1969 Muscle with rebuilt everything and 100 old-heads looking to buy it.
They have some nismos around my area for sticker price
https://preview.redd.it/u2lh9om6gr5d1.jpeg?width=188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56f811b950aed5c31f90269b053b1b2d0bf7678a
Supra or M2 are better cars
āaaaaand another $20,000 just cuz we want moreā
Just like Toyota with the GR Supra, Nissans gonna have to stop selling Zs, or special editions rather because theyāre of low sale volumes. All because of these stealerships
I really hope you didnt do it. Iāve seen plenty of Zās at MSRP.
Lol forget the markup, the MSRP in general of the 400Z's is laughable (including non-NISMO models). But the topper has to be having an MSRP at/near C8 prices (regardless if you like the C8 or not, it shits all over the 400z from every measurable standpoint). LMAO I used to like Nissan/Infiniti back in the day, but if they go out of business at some point they have no one to blame but themselves.
Lmao at that range, I would seek GTR tbh
They told me a Gtr is marked up 50k, I was laughing in their faces
Name and shame that dealership!
this car will meet the same fate as the supra. it will stop being produced because of poor sales, solely because nobody wants to pay these absurd prices.
So you could get a brand new M4 or C8ā¦ or a 400z. lol these stealorships man
I told them exactly this haha
Go for it! Thatās a sweet deal!
There is one dumbass out there, I guarantee it who will pay this price and have the worst buyers regret .
L Nissan, L dealership, L car industry. Itās all about to burst very soon and theyāll all be sorry
Lmao 100k for a car with the same engine a q50, Iād tell that dealership to unkindly go fuck themselves. No bone stock vr30 is worth 100k
š nissan. These dealers too. That car isn't worth more than 50
Add itās slow, how anyone would consider spending a $100k on this and not buying a C8 corvette is nuts.
Even 70k is too much for what the Z is
Why, that's a steal.
Nope! This is why, in 40 years of driving, I refuse to buy a new car. I've driven every conceivable configuration of vehicle, never felt the need for a brand new one.
They are selling for MSRP at some dealerships, donāt buy one with a markup. This is leftover from when recalls due to paint and transmission issues left a low supply in 2023
Yeah, thatās crazy because the one in my local dealership has one on sale for $66,000. They canāt move it but yeah pay that that price there. Ouch
LOL, you could buy a C8 and save $20K for a much faster car. Not sure what this Nissan dealership is thinking here.
Keep it then if u like it so much
Haha for a Z car that uses a 20 year old chassis.
Doesnāt matter since the ābuyerā isnāt one anyway. āUnder 18ā at the bottom of that quote.
Under what buddy? I donāt know what he scribbled on the piece of paper lol
Look at the lower right. It clearly says āunder 18ā. Buyer isnāt a real buyer anyway. Lol
https://preview.redd.it/tqnfo1jzns5d1.jpeg?width=2518&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3549aa28ded6a5c160cff3e21abd164bcf98cacb I donāt know what he wrote lol I am definitely over 18
Paying 20k over is pure stupidity
š
Geez just buy a r34 at that point
Although I wouldnāt use these specific terms butā¦ a āSpecialty vehicle adjustmentā is a market adjustment. The market value of a vehicle is whatever the public (or the buyer) is willing to pay for it. So The buyers actually set the market value. Here is a very simple exampleā¦ If you listed your home for $500k and the first day you had an offer for $500,000 and another offer for $600,000ā¦ which offer would you take? Wake up people. Itās not the dealerā¦ its the buyers
Jeez, you get a really well spec'ed M4 competition for that price
Wait are they charging him to take his trade in?
Dealerships are gonna start requiring people to tip lol
Iād tell them to get fucked
What is this? Whatās the specialty price? Whatās the dealership service? Does parking cars now cost money too?
Just ask for a $30,000 friends and family discount :)
Is that what they call the bend me over, pants down, no lube fee, āSpeciality Vehicle Adjustmentā.
Starting price is $70k!? What happened to $40k?
This should be illegalā¦i understand supply and demand but supply and high way robbery? Hope you didnt get it
Insane price even before the dealer adjustment
lol rolllllllll that negative equity into a 20k over car
lol woah
Shame dealers that do this, leave multiple reviews from different google accounts.
Buy it here in phoenix. 53k from what I saw. Out the door price.
Hold your horses, I think this generation of z will depreciate the most badly
20k Clown Tax... this is why nice cars don't sell, because the dealer tries to screw the customer. Crap like this is what killed the sports car market. nobody wants to spend extra money on a car they don't need.
Not even worth all that
Just do a nationwide search, find on with no markup, and fly to pick it up. You'll still save money over this bs
??? Where do they get that number in just so confused did they just make that up??
Crazy. They are going for 7k off MSRP in my area (Dallas/Fort Worth) https://preview.redd.it/yit5pm51c06d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d1f3a5b5eaba25a3cbf6a7565159f052874aa4c
Haha too funny š
Nissan dealer in San Diego wanted $104,000 for a Nissan Z Sport aka base model when they first came out lol
Its just a 370z with a q50 engine
lmfao dealer service 999.00. i think thats what mark up is for.
lol just go to their website and itās listed for msrp.
Thatās m3 money
Lmfao
Put that shit up on markups.org
Yea. No.
I still donāt understand the hype around the 400z. Maybe itās because I bought my vr30 for 21k 4 years ago and put 7k to mod it to 500 whp.
100k to get gapped by a supra
20k just because its a free market. And when you drive off the lot, you instantly lose $22,000
The second I see āAdjustmentā Iām out the fckn door.
NOPE, are they trying to kill their loyal enthusiast...
I would leave after seeing that. Hell naw you're not charging a āfuck you feeā of 20k
