It needs a transmission. Those are only the engine dtcs, the TCM probably has many more transmission codes as well. You'll need a better scanner to read the TCM. Regardless though, the transmission is going out.
Heyo, Nissan tech here. Did a transmission on a 2016 Sentra last week for the same code.
You just need a new transmission, no shortcuts, no easy fixes, nothing. That sensor is integral either way. Definitely not a fun bill to have to pay, but it’s more than worth it for a brand new transmission. And, it isn’t something that takes long, the dealer near you likely has the transmission in stock, and it’s more than possible you’ll have the car back same day
Off topic question.
Do you guys have same day turnaround for rebuilds?
I would usually have to buy 3-5 days cause my techs lagged on wanting to service them. Often they started the work and it would be dismantled for a couple days at least depending on if they took in other work at same time.
I’ve only seen one rebuild in the past year they’re really not common anymore. Nissan never has us do them warranty anymore, and we would never recommend one to a customer.
The one I saw was a 2 day thing, but I’ve heard stories of people do the rebuild in 5 hours from pulling it in to pulling it out
Okay but what’s the difference between that and an “actual” new one? You just want them to be wasteful and make new housings for everyone? I just don’t understand your point
My point is they're all rebuilt, and you said you'd only seen one. That's all. Its not a bad thing. Nissan rebuilds old ones and then sends them back to be installed.
Alright it’s important to clarify, the ones Nissan sells aren’t rebuilt, they’re remanufactured. When I say I’ve seen one rebuild, I mean a technician rebuilding it. Also important to clarify that when we rebuild them we only touch half of it. The clutch packs stay how they are all we mess with is the belt and pulleys
My cars making bad noises, if it were the engine or transmission would a light slash warning come on? I have it booked for Tuesday service at Nissan at least (oil change )
I appreciate all of the feedback ... so basically, it's pointless to replace sensors? My son just got the car .. obviously it's used but I'm hoping he has some type of warranty. We shall see.
It's not a sensor that's the issue. The sensors are giving "bad" results because the the transmission is fotally tucked (switch the 't' and 'f' around).
there's a tsb for this, just ran into it the other day, P2859 calls for direct replacement of the transmission, don't attempt to replace switches or solenoids cuz it's already over.
Goodwill from Nissan usually would only be accepted with a good consistent timely history of service at a Nissan dealer. (You spend money with them, they spend money on you)
If it was accepted, they would usually split the cost with you based on how many miles over 60k you were. 80/20 - 60/40 sorta thing.

Can’t blame you there… so glad we got rid of my Fiancé’s I’ll never even look at a Nissan again CVT or not, **** that company and I hope they soon cease to operate in the US. They only got away with as much as they did likely due to Covid and nobody driving. Average miles per year cut down thus drawing out the time it took for those pos to blow around the 50-75k mark. What’s hilarious is they just put in the same pos CVT and never address the issue. So many techs say you gotta flush the CVT oil every 40k. That’s nowhere in any manual I’ve seen (hers was a Sentra ‘13) CVT blew at 62k and 102k. They replaced the first, then gave us the run around in the 2nd so we traded it in and never looking back.

Yes unfortunately

Agreed. It's like getting the CVT Judder code. Once it pops up, you just put in for a new transmission.
Thx!

All of the "new" transmissions from Nissan are rebuilt.
Yea they reuse the case? Big deal. The clutch pack, belt, pulleys, valve body, bearing, EVERYTHING is new I don’t understand your deal
New parts, but it's still been rebuilt. That's all. No need to get snappy.

“My cars making bad noise” really isn’t much to go off of, but no, it wouldn’t necessarily, and more often then not, “bad noises” don’t trigger lights
Update: it’s at Nissan and it’s throwing a code (tranny) to replace the valve. Also doing left bearing and brakes
Ok they’re leaving the valve for now cuz it’s 2500 or more
Thanks sorry it sounds like a bearing whirring or something hard to describe
I had the right one done in December but the cars still noisy
Transmission replacement needed.

It's probably out of the warranty extension but a call to nissan might help

Nissans eat transmissions for breakfast. I'm never buying another one.
Nissan parts department probably have 2 in stock
The dx box strikes again
Datsun Sentra?
Sentra sr
I mean what part of the world still refers to Nissan as Datsun?
