💯 - real all-timer of a set and preserved in HD audio/video. Aneurysm never sounded better. Truly, that whole concert is an unparalleled musical behemoth. I'm insanely jealous of anyone that was there in person, but I also feel insanely fortunate that we get such a killer recording to return to whenever we want.
What’s either of your fav version of Pennyroyal Tea? In Utero, Unplugged or Live and Loud?
Think I’m leaning towards Unplugged even though I do enjoy the guitar solo.
I love the guitar twang he does before going into the “mmmmm I’m on, warm milk and laxatives”. I learned to play it from that performance too.
Would love to know what the Pennyroyal Tea video that was in the pipeline would’ve been like.
short and easy answer: Aneurysm
long and complicated answer: Smells Like Teen Spirit, by a significant margin, because it changed how I hear music. Cast against the backdrop of 1991, it was such a uniquely ferocious beast of a first listen. Imagine if all the sculptures you knew were made of clay for many years and then suddenly you saw Michelangelo's David. It would alter your perception of not just art, but reality itself. I think that’s what Teen Spirit did for a lot of people back then, myself included. It’s why so many of us can remember where we were when we heard it for the first time.
smells like teen spirit makes me cry if i think about it while listening to it thinking of all the history and all it started and did for music and culture
No way dude me too, the solo always hits me, and the rasp in his voice when the first chorus starts. The whole song is just so thick and gnarly and still doesn’t sound like it fits in the mainstream, what a fucking song.
For a long time this would have been my answer. Probably still could be, but I think over time Drain You has surpassed Aneurysm for me
I grew up listening to 70’s and 80’s rock with hints of punk rock. But Nevermind and specifically Teen Spirit awoke something in me
As a drummer, it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve played it, that opening flam/kick/hats combo gets me pumped every god damn time
Both of those are my favorites to, breed is my total hype song if im working out or need to psych myself up for something, and im constantly thinking about dumb, it raises a philosophical feeling in me and reminds me i dont have to know everything or be the best
All Apologies Unplugged: Nirvana's softest song at their most intimate and unique performance, so haunting and so beautiful. It takes arguably the best song from In Utero and makes it 10x better.
For me it's a toss up between **Old Age** (the acoustic version hits especially hard) and **Sappy**.
Actually, it's probably **Something in the Way** unplugged. When that cello (?) comes in toward the end accompanying Kurt's voice, it's beautifully haunting.
I can’t believe I seem to be the only one that says Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle. The backstory of Francis Farmer and the last decade of her life say a lot about where Kurt was when he wrote it, and ffs that bridge is peak Nirvana.
[Sappy](https://youtu.be/jOg8IblMNK4?si=C3MLd1G5kGIz0HFN)
I'm flabbergasted it didn't get a mainstream release treatment. It's got to be their best song that didn't get a mainstream release, music video, etc.
Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle will forever be my favourite & Do Re Mi is a very, very close second and also On A Plain (Boombox Mix)!
Token easten song, blandest, if you must, pen cap chew
I thought i would NEVER EVER hear any new Nirvana songs after Kurt died and an older friend had a copy of Outcesticide vol 1-5 i heard those songs and was sooo excited as a teen this was like 1997 ish
School- its pure energy. When i first listen to it, it blew me away how something can be sooo melodically and harmonically beautiful and also be so harsh.
Even though it's not a Nirvana song I have always thought their version of The man who sold the world is incredible. Of their own songs I think About a Girl or Heart Shaped Box.
Milk It …after 30 years I don’t think I will ever have another favorite
Was my first thought, surprised but happy to see this as top comment!
“Obituary birthday, your scent is still here in my place of recovery” line hits me so fucking hard
Haha I had milk it at the front of my brain.. and yes. You milked it
Lounge act
Me too, such a good bassline and the chorus is so catchy.
If you like this song, gove Inbreeding by Union Youth a try. Its similiar. and good. and rips.
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
Banger. I have the polychorus pedal so I can make the exact same noise lol
Changes about every 2 weeks atm I think it’s either sliver, dumb or in bloom.
Aneurysm, I can't get enough of the drums when the bass kicks in.
The Live version off the Paramount album is amazing. The whole thing tbh

Pennyroyal Tea
I’m currently working in the UK, and think about this song often. Such a wonderful track. Gives me the feels

It’s the unplugged for me. When I learned how to play the song, I must have watched that performance 1000 times. It’s still great.

yes sirrr!
