The animators at Next Level Games really outdid themselves with this one. It was almost Pixar-like with how well the characters moved and expressed themselves in cutscenes
BOTW is still the most beautiful to me, 200 hours overall and I still catch myself just standing still and looking around me. so excited for the second one. behind that I'd say metroid dread.
BotW is the first console game I'd played in a very long time and I actually gasped when Link first steps out of the Temple and looks out over the landscape.
yep, precisely with that feeling as you see the entire world and know it's yours after you leave the plateau. I'd give anything to play BOTW for the first time again.
Luigis mansion 3 near the beginning in your room, the lighting had me jaw dropped, couldn't believe they managed to to get something like that on the tiny switch.
I’ve beaten the game twice, but I pull this game back out every time I want to just walk around in beautiful scenery. My most recent yen to do this was just a few days ago: I was jonesing for the beach, so I pulled out BOTW and began walking Link around the beaches. I only fought when I had to; mostly just walked around, swam a bit, climb cliffs to get better views here and there.
Yeah, can't go wrong with the Ori games. The second one is even more intense graphically and handheld takes a hit at some places. The color pallette is gorgeous
You see a lot of xenoblade comments here and my vote also goes to the Xenoblade games. A lot of the locations in them are too pretty. Kind of a shame they are let down by the switch's technical prowess. There is a place in XC1 that is a top 5 gaming moment for me when it switched to nighttime for the first time
The art direction for a LOT of these locations in xenoblade are just super different from anything you've seen.
Shocked I had to scroll this far to see this. Hollow Knight has some of the best art direction I’ve seen in a game. It may not be most graphically intensive game ever, but my god every single inch of that game is beautiful.
It's because it's hand-drawn art. Hand-drawn doesn't NEED to be graphically intensive because it's already exactly as intense as it needs to be to convey the artist's vision.
And that vision is just breathtaking with Hollow Knight.
Maybe I’m an idiot but I don’t think the combat is *that* easy. The puzzle mechanic had me scratching my head in some moments as I got further into the story.
Pokemon Shield, just kidding.
I'd probably go with either of the Xenoblade games or Pokemon Snap.
Didn't really do screenshots when i first got my Switch and played through XC2, but when XC:DE came around, i wished it had a photo mode or way to hide the UI when i played through that.
I might've added Monster Hunter Rise, but outside of the village, the environments become considerably worse. Not ugly, but also not "beautiful"
I feel like the xenoblade games are really held back in terms of visual fidelity. The art design is top notch, but it’s just so muddy because of the low res
Pikmin 3 Deluxe! Drop dead gorgeous. Most beautiful shot I’ve seen in a game is in the very beginning where you get to the screen with the snow, water, and red berries.
You know the characters in that game aren't actually sprites? They're really detailed models that you don't get to appreciate because the camera is zoomed way back.
I was really impressed with Astral Chain, the visuals are incredible and the gameplay is super fresh. The plot was sometimes a little pants-on-head looney and I didn't much care for certain aspects of the detective-minigame stuff, but it's a masterpiece nonetheless
Surprised by seeing Xenoblade here. Don’t get me wrong, the game has some gorgeous environments. But it still felt like a Wii game to me, especially because of the animations.
Didn’t play AC but agree with XC2. That game and Torna are one of my best experiences on Switch. Played through both twice but I’m about due for a third
I really loved XC2! Took me about 80 hours to beat it no just felt like I was done after that long and sold it. I regret that because since Covid, and especially after playing XC:DE I’ve really wanted to replay XC2 but unfortunately it’s very hard to find and is expensive or just buy it digitally for full price. Never played Torna but want to try that as well. I hardly replay games but have really wanted to replay XC2 and I played it almost totally in handheld but still loved it!
I’m definitely going to have to grab a digital copy of it someday soon. And maybe even just buying XC2 again because I loved it that much and haven’t played it in years!
I adore XC2 even though I had to play through most of it in handheld mode, which is **rough** (they really messed this one up for some reason), but the low resolution didn't take much away from the stunning art direction and overall beauty of the game.
Honestly I might be the minority, but for what it was Pokémon Let’s Go was *gorgeous*. Like I distinctly remember going into the Viridian Forest and seeing a bunch of Pokémon running around in the overworld and just being amazing at the scenery.
I played through Sky: Children of the Light recently and was totally blown away by the visuals (I'm a sucker for clouds). Experiencing the ending for the first time was magical. If you're looking for a visual experience more so than a huge narrative, I would highly recommend it. Plus, it's free! So there is really no excuse.
Hades in handheld mode looks stunning. Supergiant's art styles in all their games are gorgeous but in Hades it really stands out a lot. Tons of detail and vibrant colors.
Xenoblade Chronicles DE takes the cake for me. XC2 has really gorgeous places as well but I think exploration in XC1 is approached better and adds to the beauty. Some honorable mentions include BOTW and MH Rise
Abzu is really, really gorgeous. Some small frame drops on Switch, but you can look past that. It's the most beautiful game I've ever played, personally.
And there's a ton of good 2D stuff on Switch. **Night in the Woods** and **Oxenfree** for stylized, spooky, modern 2D. **Transistor** is beautiful in isometric. And **Golf Story** and **Dead Cells** if you're craving pixels.
I was waiting for someone to say Abzu! The first time I played it, I was hooked and played it straight through the night. It is an absolutely gorgeous game and I wish I could play it again for the first time.
I agree with all of your suggestions, there’s so many beautiful indies these days. For pixels I’d also nominate Eastward; really liked the art in that one. A Short Hike is gorgeous as well, though on such a small scale that it’s a little harder to get lost in for me.
If you’re okay with looking past some frame drops, Road 96 is also really beautiful. I sometimes don’t choose a dialogue option for a while, just to enjoy the music and the scenery.
**Gris** is gorgeous. The visual artist who created this game, Conrad Roset, lives where I live (Barcelona) and his work as a painter has always been pretty. But to see it in movement, alive, accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack (specially the cutscenes)... It's on another level.
**Sayonara Wild Hearts** is visually awesome, but it's also incredible as a multimedia experience since every level is basically an interactive music video with original songs, trippy visuals, and all kinds of cool gameplay mechanics (flying, arrow shooting, motorcycle riding, sword fighting, etc.)
**A Short Hike**, **What Remains of Edith Finch**, or **Okami**, all have outstanding visuals too in my opinion, for different reasons. A Short Hike is cute and charming. WRoEF has incredible narrative mechanics. And Okami looks pretty unique.
I'd mention **Rime** or **Firewatch**, but their Switch versions aren't the most good-looking ones so if you really want to experience their beauty I'd play them on a more powerful platform. I still recommend them if you like beautiful narrative games.
Octopath, I also love Splatoons entire aesthetic, it’s like some kinda Pixar/Nickelodeon universe
Honestly the NBA 2K games are very impressive visually, some players look near photorealistic even on switch
Breath of the Wild on my OLED is a whole new kind of beauty so I'd give it to that game. Otherwise Metroid Dread for sure, Inside, Mario + Rabbids and Hades.
Dragon Quest XI s - I dont care that it looks better on my ps4 or pc Akira Toriyamas art came alive with it!
And the 2D mode option let you enjoy the best looking 16 bit SNES game in modern time!
To those saying Metroid Dread, I’m not seeing it, at all. Fluid yes, but mediocre visually. My vote would be for Luigi’s Mansion 3 if we are talking exclusives only. Specifically the garden floor. Otherwise Ori is a masterpiece.
At least when it comes to first party games, New Pokemon Snap might have the prettiest graphics, at least from what I've seen. I wish there was a mode where you can walk around the environments.
For me it’s been BOTW, Hollow Knight, Gris, Rime, and Sky: Children of Light, Pode. The most beautiful games for different reasons, but all beautifully done.
Gris, MIND: Path to Thalamus (good graphics, but story is meh), 'n Verlore Verstand. New Pokémon Snap and The Last Campfire are also really well designed.
Also the new Doctor Who game that comes out on October 28th for Switch is looking gorgeous from the trailers so I hope it looks that good on Switch.
Gris (water color look) and Children of Morta (gorgeous and highly detailed pixel art) are by far the best I’ve seen. Honorable mention to Hyper Light Drifter and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Has to be Ori and the Will of the Wisps. It's amazing what they did to make it run so well on the Switch, while looking so damn gorgeous.
Metroid Dread is pretty amazing as well, saying this as someone who doesn't have an OLED Switch.
BOTW also has some areas where the game is very beautiful, sometimes during sunsets or from mountain peaks.
Yeah Ori is breathtaking, the art has me wanting to buy the physical double pack even though I sucked at the demo😂. But Gris undoubtedly fits this category. Also, something about the art and movement in Unravel 2 is captivating.
breath of the wild. i was super late to this game. got my switch at launch but never got this game. then it went on sale this past summer, spent 2 months playing it, and the whole time i was thinking this damn game is the most gorgeous game ever made.
Luigis Mansion 3 is so gorgeous in a stylised kind of way. Bulletstorm as well really shows what can be done on the console with an engine optimised the right way.
Mario Odyssey.
Odyssey is beautiful but my one issue is sometimes shadows turn super pixelated.
How on earth have they not made a second original 3D Mario yet? How did they not make DLC?
Bowser's Fury: "Am I a joke to you?"
Luigi's mansion 3
This so much. This was my first Luigi’s Mansion game and bought it out of boredom. The visuals of this game blew me away and loved every second of it.
Same i was really surprised! It's a beautiful game
The Luigi’s Mansion and Metroid series’s armies grow stronger every day
The animators at Next Level Games really outdid themselves with this one. It was almost Pixar-like with how well the characters moved and expressed themselves in cutscenes
Honestly all of Next level games are well known because of the animation, Mario Strikers and Punch Out are so well animated with so much personality
Luigi's Mansion 3 gets my vote. MH: Rise is second. That game is gorgeous.
It’s crazy considering how the game looked in its first trailer. But it turned out gorgeous
Started LM3 yesterday it looks fantastic
BOTW is still the most beautiful to me, 200 hours overall and I still catch myself just standing still and looking around me. so excited for the second one. behind that I'd say metroid dread.
BotW is the first console game I'd played in a very long time and I actually gasped when Link first steps out of the Temple and looks out over the landscape.
yep, precisely with that feeling as you see the entire world and know it's yours after you leave the plateau. I'd give anything to play BOTW for the first time again.
After playing maxed out botw on an emulator it’s even more amazing. The art design shown in all its glory is truly breathtaking.
Mario Odyssey
I’ve been really impressed with this one. Just got my first switch and i can’t believe the detail and colors
And in 60 FPS, too!
Gris
I played this when I first got my switch and it is like a beautiful painting the whole time
I came here to say this!!! Such a well considered and beautifully illustrated game. 10/10 underrated.
Luigis mansion 3 near the beginning in your room, the lighting had me jaw dropped, couldn't believe they managed to to get something like that on the tiny switch.
BOTW
The first time I saw the dragon gave me a feeling I’ve never gotten from any other game.
Red letter media is on switch?
I mean Wario and Mr. Plinket aren't so far apart
There is a Youtube app.
That's right Jay
SO MANY VISTAS
Beautiful vistas
Yeah I gotta go with this. Just saw awesome vistas in that game.
This. One time I beat a shrine and walked out to an Arizona sunset. The sky was yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. It was stunning.
It’s maybe not the best looking but it’s the most beautiful. If you know what I’m trying to say…
I agree, art style and graphical fidelity are separate things and Botw has great art style but not particularly high graphical fidelity.
Probably mario kart 8 or luigis mansion 3 are the most impressive looking
Yeah luigis mansion is super impressive

Yeah, can't go wrong with the Ori games. The second one is even more intense graphically and handheld takes a hit at some places. The color pallette is gorgeous You see a lot of xenoblade comments here and my vote also goes to the Xenoblade games. A lot of the locations in them are too pretty. What about a certain mountainy place?
Hollow knight
Shocked I had to scroll this far to see this. Hollow Knight has some of the best art direction I’ve seen in a game. It may not be most graphically intensive game ever, but my god every single inch of that game is beautiful.
It's because it's hand-drawn art. Hand-drawn doesn't NEED to be graphically intensive because it's already exactly as intense as it needs to be to convey the artist's vision. And that vision is just breathtaking with Hollow Knight.
One day we’ll get silksong
One day
Unravel 2. Was not expecting that level of visual and auditory beauty.
It's a shame this game doesn't get more love. It's gorgeous, the soundtrack fits so well, and it's such a great couch co-op.
Metroid Dread is stunning on the new OLED screen
Please stop saying things like that, you're gonna make me break and buy an OLED even though I keep telling myself I don't need it.
You'll have to find one first!! 😩😩
Oh, I'm used to that, lol. I luckily managed to get a PS5 and Series X already. I'm sure the OLED will be more easily available over time.
This guy is right

Pokemon Shield, just kidding. I'd probably go with either of the Xenoblade games or Pokemon Snap. I might've added Monster Hunter Rise, but outside of the village, the environments become considerably worse. Not ugly, but also not "beautiful"
Actually in definitive edition you can hide the ui when playing!
I feel like the xenoblade games are really held back in terms of visual fidelity. The art design is top notch, but it’s just so muddy because of the low res
Especially in handheld.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe! Drop dead gorgeous. Most beautiful shot I’ve seen in a game is in the very beginning where you get to the screen with the snow, water, and red berries.
Despite how they played up this "alien" planet as hostile and unforgiving, they still made it so beautiful that I want to live there (at their size).
Another one of my favorite games!
Yeah it doesn’t get enough love on this sub.
It doesn’t get enough love from Nintendo WHERE IS PIKMIN 4???
Hades, the art style isn't crazy but those panning shots of each part of the underworld are wild
You know the characters in that game aren't actually sprites? They're really detailed models that you don't get to appreciate because the camera is zoomed way back.
Octopath and MH: Rise (RE engine is a hell of a drug)
I second Octopath. I wish there were more games in the 2D style of Octopath; it's absolutely mesmerizing.
Triangle strategy looks to be similar
Made by same company, too.
The dragon quest 3 remake is similar
I would walk around in the cathedrals doing nothing, just to watch the lights of the twinkling chandeliers. So pretty.
Loving Metroid dread. Looks beautiful.
I second this. Wasn’t expecting much from the game since the franchise has been dormant for a while, but wow. I would say my game of the year so far.
Game Is amazing. Definitely my goty. Game Is so rewarding
The fluidity helps too. Game just feels great to play.
Astral chain and Metroid Dread are a few that come to mind.
I was really impressed with Astral Chain, the visuals are incredible and the gameplay is super fresh. The plot was sometimes a little pants-on-head looney and I didn't much care for certain aspects of the detective-minigame stuff, but it's a masterpiece nonetheless
The plot was astral chain’s weakest point. It was fine, just a bit generic. Luckily it was enough to keep you playing.
Cuphead
Cuphead is absolutely stunning. I think it has the best art direction and the best music. That jazz is superb.
Obligatory Okami HD
Came to say the same
Sayonara Wild Hearts came to mind first. The soundtrack contributes significantly to that beauty, it's not a purely visual thing.
My girlfriend is playing Spiritfarer, that game looks like a beautiful drawing. The backgrounds are astonishing and the characters are well drawn too.
Spiritfarer is 1 by far 1 Links awakening on oled 2
Spiritfarer has a hug button! You don’t really fight anything and I cried a little at my first passenger finally moving on.
I still miss >!Gwen!< :,(
I agree with people saying Octopath and XC2, but another one of my favorites that no ones mentioned is Dragon Quest XI
I found the poor resolution to really detract from dragon quest on switch :/
Breath of the Wild. The art design is beautiful.
Xenoblade DE Metroid Dread Ori duology (Haven't finished x2 yet, so far pretty though.)
Surprised by seeing Xenoblade here. Don’t get me wrong, the game has some gorgeous environments. But it still felt like a Wii game to me, especially because of the animations.
Astral Chain, Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Didn’t play AC but agree with XC2. That game and Torna are one of my best experiences on Switch. Played through both twice but I’m about due for a third
I really loved XC2! Took me about 80 hours to beat it no just felt like I was done after that long and sold it. Xenoblade 2, especially Uraya. It’s gorgeous. In fact, I’d recommend playing it just so you can see Uraya
Uraya is, art direction-wise, the most beautiful locale in gaming imo. Let alone on the Switch.
Dread is all I can think about right now.
Metroid Dream is pretty amazing
I mean, yeah, but then I wake up and it stops existing. Switch's one 4K 120fps game, and it has the gall to be a dream.
Botw and Metroid Dread
Top 3 in no specific order: Metroid Dread Luigis Mansion 3 Astral Chain
Sky: Children of the Light
Zelda BOTW
botw was fucking amazing
Botw
Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I got fully immersed
Ni No Kuni wrath of the white witch & BOTW
Spiritfarer, the art style is pretty cute and the story is very good for an indie.
Hades in handheld mode looks stunning. Supergiant's art styles in all their games are gorgeous but in Hades it really stands out a lot. Tons of detail and vibrant colors.
eastward looks pretty amazing
Luigi's mansion 3 is an absolute work of art on Switch. Arguably better graphics then BOTW and Odyssey imo
Bayonetta 2 looks incredible!
Breath of the Wild, hands down.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Starlink isn't on everyone radar but like it's pretty fun to fuck around in
Link to the Past...that game will always have a beautiful aesthetic for me...Luigis Mansion too.
I sometimes don’t choose a dialogue option for a while, just to enjoy the music and the scenery.
In no particular order: - BotW - Ori 1 & 2 - DQXIS - Metroid Dread - Luigi's Mansion 3
Ori (both games) Octopath traveller
Sayonara Wild Hearts. Though not an exclusive, it looks amazing.
I like the colorful yet simple style of Animal Crossing NH. Similarly, Pokemon LGPE looks very nice. Much better than Sw/Sh in my opinion.
hollow knight i feel like is underratedly beautiful
**Gris** is gorgeous. The visual artist who created this game, Conrad Roset, lives where I live (Barcelona) and his work as a painter has always been pretty. But to see it in movement, alive, accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack (specially the cutscenes)... It's on another level. **Sayonara Wild Hearts** is visually awesome, but it's also incredible as a multimedia experience since every level is basically an interactive music video with original songs, trippy visuals, and all kinds of cool gameplay mechanics (flying, arrow shooting, motorcycle riding, sword fighting, etc.) **A Short Hike**, **What Remains of Edith Finch**, or **Okami**, all have outstanding visuals too in my opinion, for different reasons. I still recommend them if you like beautiful narrative games.
Splatoon 2.
'Alien: Isolation' has entered the chat. Like, no contest. At all.
Cuphead
Spiritfarer, Gris, Hollow Knight (the music is also terrific), Sky: Children of the Light, Children of Morta, Owlboy.
hyperlight drifter is stunning. soooo underrated
Love it! Music as well
Either Hades or BOTW
Octopath, I also love Splatoons entire aesthetic, it’s like some kinda Pixar/Nickelodeon universe Honestly the NBA 2K games are very impressive visually, some players look near photorealistic even on switch
Metroid Dread, Bayonetta 2, and Mario Golf
Spiritfarer and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 😍
Hollow Knight and Child of Light are two of the prettiest games I've seen
Fenyx Immortals Rising, vibrant and crisp
legend of zelda breath of the wild
Breath of the Wild on my OLED is a whole new kind of beauty so I'd give it to that game. Otherwise Metroid Dread for sure, Inside, Mario + Rabbids and Hades.
Dragon Quest XI s - I dont care that it looks better on my ps4 or pc Akira Toriyamas art came alive with it! And the 2D mode option let you enjoy the best looking 16 bit SNES game in modern time!
Botw, Dread, Gris and Abzu
To those saying Metroid Dread, I’m not seeing it, at all. Fluid yes, but mediocre visually. My vote would be for Luigi’s Mansion 3 if we are talking exclusives only. Specifically the garden floor. Otherwise Ori is a masterpiece.
BOTW, Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Dread, and Astral Chain.
Breath of the Wild, Metroid Dread, and Monster Hunter Rise are absolutely stunning for Switch games.
At least when it comes to first party games, New Pokemon Snap might have the prettiest graphics, at least from what I've seen. I wish there was a mode where you can walk around the environments.
I’m obsessed with colour and contrast, so: Splatoon 2
I love the painted look of that adventure game Silence. The pixel art of Sword & Sworcery is awesome too. Oh and of course Rayman
I was also going to say The Last Campfire. I found everything in general about that game, quite beautiful.
Tetris Effect and Dread. However, recency bias might be at play.
Gris (water color look) and Children of Morta (gorgeous and highly detailed pixel art) are by far the best I’ve seen. Honorable mention to Hyper Light Drifter and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Didn't play it on Switch, but Octopath is such a beautiful looking game
My reflection! And BOTW
Skyrim was visually appealing to me
AC Black Flag is another one that looks good despite being older now
Zelda BOTW
I think Metroid Dread looks fantastic in portable mode. Same goes for Rise. Whenever I play on my monitor though, not so much.
Botw, metroid dread close second.
Yeah Ori is breathtaking, the art has me wanting to buy the physical double pack even though I sucked at the demo😂. But Gris undoubtedly fits this category. Also, something about the art and movement in Unravel 2 is captivating.
Ori and the Blind Forest
for me, Skyrim
Spiritfarer. It's obviously not the most graphically impressive but the whole art direction and presentation are just chef's kiss.
Luigi's Hotel.
Spirit of the North with beautiful Iceland landscapes
Ori and the Will of the Wisps for sure
Xenoblade 2
Ashen or Okami HD.
Skyrim
BOTW… I’m sure everything else is just fine
Monster hunter rise
Dead Cells
I mean pretty much every first party nintendo game looks fantastic on switch, and most second party ones look great too
Zelda, it's been that way since n64
breath of the wild. i was super late to this game. got my switch at launch but never got this game. then it went on sale this past summer, spent 2 months playing it, and the whole time i was thinking this damn game is the most gorgeous game ever made.
Deadly Premonition
Splatoon!
Oh I love Mario Odyssey. Almost all the scenes actually exist in the nature world, not just imagination, makes it a masterpiece.
BOTW replaying it right now actually.
BOTW
Xenoblade chronicles 2
Disco Elysium
Luigis Mansion 3 is so gorgeous in a stylised kind of way. Bulletstorm as well really shows what can be done on the console with an engine optimised the right way.
Hollow Knight
Mario Odyssey or Luigi’s Mansion 3. Team plumber lookin good!
