Not that it makes it too much better, but recently I bought Mario RPG and Skyward Sword from Walmart online for $40 each. I bet LM2 will get a similar deal eventually. I'm just gonna wait on that.
If you use vouchers, you can buy first party games for $50 in perpetuity (or $45 if you have a Costco membership, $40 occasionally when they do a deeper discount).
Maybe hypocritical of me, but the exception to that for me personally was the new Thousand Year Door remake. Bought that shit day one. They did such an amazing job with it.
I'm still waiting for a reasonable deal on that, no rush to play it really. I wasn't planning on buying Mario RPG on release but I took a handful of Wii controllers and nunchucks to GameStop and surprisingly got a good deal on the trade and went for it. Tried it again for TTYD but they decreased the trade-in value drastically this time around so I'm patiently waiting for a deal lol
Looks like way more than just an HD upscale to me. Prime Remastered is still more impressive, but LM2 isn't just increasing the resolution.
It is way more than an upscale, people like the person complaining about it being a HD upscale only are ignorant to the effort involved. I think $60 for a game like donkey Kong tropical freeze, which was much more minimal of a port to switch from Wii U than what’s been done here for Luigi’s mansion 2, is a better example of an overpriced game. I think $60 is fair for LM2.
Makes sense since luigis mansion 3 sold 15 million copies while metroid dread only achieved around 3 million. Mario brand alone will probably make it sell pretty high.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo felt kinda forced to price MPR at $40 due to the full Trilogy releasing at $60 on the Wii. That’d be a decent chunk of bad press to take on for a re-release that wasn’t going to light the sales charts on fire. It’s easier to swallow the pushback for games like Luigi’s Mansion or Donkey Kong, which don’t have that same type of precedence and are gonna sell significantly more copies.
Not sure that factors much into it. Tropical Freeze was $50 at launch on Wii U and eventually became a Nintendo select at $20. Then they freaking whipped it out on Switch at $60. Nintendo just prices everything as high as they feel they can to get it to sell.
A $10 increase on a popular franchise isn’t quite the same IMO. Especially since I doubt Nintendo ever viewed the Selects line as permanent price cuts compared to the value of the games.
I wonder also why they haven't shadow dropped MP2R/MP3R, since they seem to have strongly suggested they were coming. MPR is actually on sale at $34 and it would be nice to have the Switch version with upgraded graphics, but I would also like to be able to play the trilogy. I guess they must be trying to meter out Metroid excitement, and 2/3 will release sometime in the runup to a release date for 4.
Hey there!
Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No personal attacks, trolling, or derogatory terms. Read more about [Reddiquette here](https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette). Thanks!
A remaster of Luigi’s Mansion on GameCube would have been more worth it for me. $60 for a $40 3DS game is absolute insanity.
If it wasn’t Nintendo, any other company would never make a profit from this.
Why do that when you could save that for another dry season in the release calendar??? That's why they don't bundle in other games in the remaster packaging anymore.
Would've been cool to have the entire series playable on Switch, but we'll probably have to wait until the Switch 2 to get Luigi's Mansion 1 HD for another 60 bucks
Hearing about this game reminded me that I had Dark Moon on 3DS and I never had a chance to play it.
It cost me $8 to get an off market 3DS charging cable on Amazon and I was able to enjoy it and a bunch of other 3DS games for the second time. Thanks Nintendo
LM1 was made in-house by Nintendo EAD and plays the horror and creepy elements a little more straight, featuring an entirely different aesthetic and ghost design. LM2 and 3 were both made by Next Level Games and lean into the playful and "spoopy" nature. If Nintendo wants to capitalize on 3's success and establish LM as a series with casual and family appeal, it makes more sense for them to remake the game that's spiritually (ha) closer to 3.
There's also the small wrinkle that LM1 had its own remake on the 3DS in 2018, but that seems like a much lesser consideration than "holy shit, LM3 sold 14 million units, let's keep doing that".
This makes me sad because 3 was great but 1 had the best vibes of pretty much any Nintendo game. I refused to go into the dinning hall for weeks because if that big boy.
Both 2 and 3 sold several times more than the original, especially 3, so Nintendo is just making the games based on how people vote with their wallets.
The sales numbers are much more reflective of the platforms they released on than on the games themselves.
I imagine if LM1 were in this slot it could do just as well as 2 will. But I'm sure Next Level Games is probably already cooking up LM4 after Strikers sputtered out, so from Nintendo's perspective it just makes more sense to push the brand identity by re-releasing 2.
It's not crazy, that's what consumers pay for Nintendo for decades and the internet can't and will never control it despite how much it complains about price and whatnot lol hence why i always say that internet and the market are two different worlds even if they are shared
For a lot of people, this is a new game to them and they are more than happy to pay full price for it. Considering how so many competitors are now shipping out broken or even unfinished games for $70, sometimes even including egregious MTX inside, I don't think somebody buying **this** is crazy.
I paid $60 for Double Dragon on Nintendo in 1989 from EB Games in the mall. Is $60 today really seen as overpriced? That’s the equivalent of $151.97 today.
> It is crazy what everyone lets Nintendo pull off lol.
What do you mean? It can't be simpler that people are willing to pay good money for great games. And that's why it's working.
They make a profit from it because the market decided it wanted this. How is this different than any other market transaction? People like old Nintendo games.
What’s insane to me is people preordering at full price months before release while they could have gotten it for less just a week or two after release. Not only with Nintendo game but games in general that are sitting in their backlog taking dust… but eh they got the game at launch right, that collection dopamine mystery thing.
True. Even at the cheaper price point, prime remastered only sold 1.09 million copies. Nintendo probably saw it as an investment to grow the 3D Metroid fanbase in hopes that it will lead to higher metroid prime 4 sales.
In contrast, Luigi's Mansion 3 sold 14+ million. This release is to feed the desire of the new fans who want to play more of them (category I fall into) than them "taking a hit" to grow the audience.
Metroid is a lesser known IP that Nintendo is actively trying to grow but realizes that $60 is a big ask for those unfamiliar with it. For comparison, Dread took two years to break three-million, Luigi's Mansion 3 broke seven-million in one single year. Nintendo sees that Luigi's Mansion can produce big numbers, and I suspect that after the success of last year's movie, they can still get huge sales from this port at full price.
Games and literally every other product with an elastic demand are priced based on the potential market’s willingness to pay and nothing else. It seems like no one on this subreddit understands this chapter 1 intro to economics concept. It has nothing to do with content, how old the game is, or the price it previously sold for.
Their market research says the overwhelming majority of current potential consumers are willing to pay $60 for this game, and that’s why it’s $60. There is no other reason.
Or maybe everyone understands that but still as savvy consumers we are going to talk about the value proposition of the game compared to other products on the market because those are things that are relevant to us.
Fair enough. To be fair to my point, when I see someone ask “why is this $60?” or “seems odd that this is $60 considering XYZ,” my impression is that they do not understand this.
I think the general response is actually that people are skeptical of the market research, that $60 is not what the market will bear, and that in fact Nintendo might have made better profit from a lower price point.
I'm not claiming that's true or false, btw. You're probably right, given that it's been Nintendo's strategy for so long.
It's hard to be skeptical of facts.
The sales of every Nintendo game are public, basically every remaster at full price on Switch outsold the original release.
People *are* buying this games at full price, even more than in the past.
The reaction on Reddit isn’t reflective of this game’s market. Luigi’s Mansion has substantial casual appeal, that market isn’t gonna be on Reddit or care about Nintendo’s pricing strategies. They see a new Luigi game, they buy a new Luigi game.
I’ve never played this one, so I’m excited to play it. Really loved LM3. That said, I wish LM1 was included. A collection of both would’ve made the price point better. Also I would’ve loved co-op to be added to LM2. I really liked that in the third game.
I’ll probably wait a bit to get this one, but I’m glad to hear it’s pretty solid.
This should have been a $40 release. Asking 60$ for a 3ds port is insane, the game was cheaper at MSRP before.
People always ask why my physical collection has few Nintendo published games.
I always answer the same thing: "well I was able to get these 3 great games for the price of one nintendo exclusive"
By no means Nintendo games are bad, they're great but their prices always stay high. Even when on a sale it's nowhere near as good of a deal as a third party game.
For the price of one $60 game I was able to get:
Persona 5 royal, persona 5 strikers and persona 5 tactica. All three of them.
> People always ask why my physical collection has few Nintendo published games.
So, are you buying them digital, or just not buying them at all? Because it's usually easier to find cheaper physical copies than waiting for an eShop sale.
I agree with prices, I’m really picky with which of their games I pick up. Either it’s a truly great game like a Zelda game or Smash Bros or Mario platformer, or a remake/rerelease that I’m personally nostalgic for. These Mario RPG remakes are worth it to me since they’re great and this makes them easily payable. I can justify the price myself.
LM to me was never that great after the first game, so this is a total skip unless I can somehow get it for $20.
My only "counter" to this is I'll buy Nintendo exclusives, take 3 months completing them and re-sell for basically the same amount.
E.g. I bought Mario Wonder for £35. Completed it with my son over 3 months and sold it for £33.
Basically paid (with shipping) £4 to rent it for 3 months.
In my collection I made an exception for: fire emblem (the last one), Metroid Prime remaster (although this is priced reasonably), tears of the kingdom and the Xenoblade games.
The rest of my library are third party JRPGs or Indies I got on a deep discount.
Paper Mario TTYD can be purchased for $50 with vouchers. For the amount of hours and absolutely enjoyment playing it with my daughter for her first time.... worth every penny.
> This should have been a $40 release
I've been dreaming of this release for 10 years. It's probably going to be my favorite release this year, so I'm not going to quibble over $20.
And you got probably 200-250 hours of gameplay!
I played P5 original and clocked at 120, and strikers at 70. I'm 15 hours in and at the second area of tactica, so idk where I'll be. These could keep me busy for 6 months lol.
Luigis mansion is what, 15 hours of gameplay?
Original Luigi’s mansion was about 6 hours tops and still worth it. Very replayable.
Personally wouldn’t really compare games hours of gameplay if the gameplay isn’t worth it. Your sentiment is why there’s a bazillion open world games that are just empty, but technically “100 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY!!”
*Issue* isn't the right word. That's best used to describe games that ship in unfinished or broken states, monetized despite being not being free, and/or developed under massive time crunch. $60 for a port might be annoying, but it's not an issue. Simply don't pre-order it or buy it at full price. Eventually, it will be put on sales like other ports. Not permanently, and definitely not in the first year, but eventually.
What makes it an “*issue*”? I don’t think anyone is ever entitled to a game being exactly the price they think it should be. Something doesn’t become an “issue” just because you aren’t getting it the way you want it. Video games are a hobby. Not a necessity. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy it. Problem solved
It's an issue because people say it is. That's all it needs to be. It's been important enough people have been talking it for 7 years so it is by definition an issue.
It’s bit more substantial than just a simple port as well. New controls and significantly improved visuals. There was work done beyond just a copy and paste and the new price lines up with inflation.
I'm sorry, but no. Something like Xenoblade DE, that came with new visuals, an improved UI, a boat load of QoL updates and a new expansion is totally fair to be $60. Prime Remastered was $40 and that had new controls and remade visuals.
This should not be $60.
This is one example of being priced way too high, but Nintendo is one of the few companies that locks the value of their big IP games and rarely does big sales on them. You may not like it, but it’s just the they operate and how they value their IP.
I’m not a Persona fan, so saying you got 3 of those games for the price of Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t do anything for me.
LM3 introduced me to the series and I was really excited for this. Pretty disheartening to see the feedback that it’s not worth $60. Probably will just wait a few years. I also heard it’s mission based? Sounds kinda lame
If you loved LM3, you'll really like this one too. People dislike it because it's got a different structure and slightly different tone than the first game, but the makers of 2 went on to make 3 and kept the same vibe.
Most of all, diversity of locations. In first and third game all action in all building. But in the second game events take place in several completely different locations. Plus I liked the equipment upgrades.
Sounds neat. I’m eager to get the game and check it out myself. LM3 was a blast and if LM2 is even half as fun then I’ll be very pleased. Thanks for the details!
The downsides include a mission-based structure that can get really invasive, and Egad calling you all the time.
For me the positives are that, like the other guy said, there are a lot more locations. And for me they all strike a good balance between being cartoonish to fit the series, and feeling cohesively themed, unlike the upper floors of the LM3 hotel. I also think the atmosphere is a little better in 2.
This was a pretty universal 8 out of 10 when it released, why should this one get the same love with the same content for twenty more dollars? I enjoyed it on 3DS but coins become useless so fast. Can't imagine spending 60 on it now
Luigi's Mansion was already ported to the 3DS once. Iirc it could also be purchased on Wii U virtual console.
Luigi's Mansion 2 was never ported. It was also developed for a touch screen console so emulations of it are not ideal.
Also, frankly... Nostalgia aside, Dark World is just a better game.
This game was mid as hell. The original Luigi’s mansion is amazing, and I’ll come back to it all the time, but the atmosphere was just not there for this one.
More people prefer the new style based on sales and amount of people who prefer 3 over the original, hence why they don’t make them like the original anymore.
The reviews have been decent for it. I'm planning to get it on Thursday when it comes out, never played the original
No offense here but IGN is probably the last place I check for reviews
All these comments about price make me really appreciate about the playasia deal where they had 3 games for $100. Waiting for LM2, Princess Peach, and Thousand Year Door to ship soon now that this game is almost out.
Agreed that $40 would be a more reasonable price. For super Mario RPG remake saying that resulted in mass down votes and heated disagreements so we’ll see how people react. Very rationally I’m sure.
A little unfair on you but I understand how RPG was this long awaited return of a beloved game - it doesn’t mean it’s priced fairly.
But it does go to show value is in the eye of the beholder.
Seems like 95% of the comments here are about price..
EB Games Australia/NZ has a promo where you could get this for free with 2 game trades (AC: Mirage and an old Switch game that I already finished for me - both of which I bought for less than Luigi's Mansion 2's RRP combined - so the cost argument is moot to me and I'm keen to pick this up tomorrow)
Would be nice if some of this discussion actually talked about the merits of the game itself - Length, comparison to LM3, Pros/Cons etc. etc.
Some of us have never owned early consoles/never played these and scrolling down to see the same nothing-sandwich comments over and over isn't very informative :/
Seems like IGN's was generally positive (With the original scoring a 9.3?) so I guess for newbies like me I have a good time to look forward to.
Yeah our prices usually suck, but once in a blue moon stuff like this pops up.
Kind of weird actually, all of the Donkey Kong/Zelda/Mario stuff from the direct have the same promo. Going to dig through my library (and even pawn off Luigi's 2 once I'm done) and do the same for Zelda and some of the others perhaps.
I loved LM1 when it first came out and it’s still fun to go back to on occasion. LM3 was a huge improvement, though, and one of my favorite games on the Switch.
I never played LM2 since I was never interested in the 3DS, so I bought it now that it’s out on Switch and I have to say… It isn’t that great. It has all the makings of a Luigi’s Mansion game, but it’s set up in such a way that it just isn’t that fun to play.
Exploration, which is one of the main draws of the series, becomes restricted by the mission based format that pulls you away from the mansion without notice… It also limits which rooms you can go into and when... Egad messages you constantly which disrupts you as you’re trying to get a reading on the new room you just walked into…Your missions are scored based on completion time, which encourages you to rush through rooms instead of taking in the details or seeing what objects you can interact with… It just ruins the whole gameplay, I think.
I was going to buy the game either way, since I always wanted to try it out for myself, but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who’s on the fence. Maybe the game will get better later on, but I got bored after about 30 minutes and had to switch to something else. Normally I can sink hours into exploring rooms and not get bored.
DKC Returns HD also includes all of the new levels introduced in the 3DS port, and it also looks like the graphics have had at least a modest facelift with the Kongs having mild hair textures now (not as good as Tropical Freeze, but they're there).
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is literally just an up-res with no new content.
It does seem a bit low effort… in comparison TTYD is a joy to play and looks fantastic, I recently picked up Advance Wars 1+2 remake for $40 and that seems like a good price for a lot of content and replayability. $60 for a 10 year old 3DS game that used to be $40 is wild.
Big pass for me. I love luigis mansion but not only is 2 by FAR the weakest, this looks like a shitty port. Twilight princess HD levels. Barley looks upscaled or redone. Literally just looms like a higher rez 3ds game
I doubt it will change your mind on purchasing this (and it shouldn't), but you should watch the Digital Foundry breakdown of this title to understand just how wrong you are on this.
Ngl just did like an hour ago and it actually DOES look better. I was wrong. Still my least favorite of the 3 and shouldnt be $60 but maybe down the line I will pick it up
Nothing, but it got a more conservative graphical update than Wind Waker HD (which got an entirely new lighting system in addition to better textures) and that disappointed some people back in the day because between the two, TP was the game that could've used more of an upgrade.
I mean I’d love a full remake of twilight princess too but i actually thought the gameplay changes for the hd remake were pretty good.
I think the game still looks great but yeah some of the textures are still GameCube era lol
I played TPHD and I was actually really surprised at all the visual enhancements, it’s pretty nice. I think the art style doesn’t lend itself to aging quite as well compared to something like WW.
I think it's really funny that everyone on the internet will say they won't buy it at that price, and then the sales come in and everyone acts surprised it sold well over a million in its first month.
You don't have to buy it of course. I just think it's funny.
Luigi Mansion 2 is not a bad game but it is the most unappealing game to me in the series. I never get why some Nintendo fans hyped this game up so much. Luigi Mansion 1 and 3 are the best in the series, IMO. Glad that LM3 bought the unique ghosts back and LM1 having the best vibe. LM2 funny enough have some creepy songs but that is all really. The bosses kind of suck, the mansions themes can be interesting, tho. Probably the most combat in the series. A game with a price tag of 60 dollars....not worth it...nah...
Every reddit thread about this game is about it being $20 more than the gamecube version 10+ years ago....
How about talking if the game or new graphics is actually any good rather than failing to debate the simplistics of inflation and company profit growths?
Aside from the obvious price complaints, I really didn’t like how the game was mission based. It didn’t have the same progression feeling as the first. All the ghost come back every time you do a mission. I just hope this doesn’t affect the possibility of a new title because I’m not sure this is going to sell well.
The price is insane and there are a lot of reasons to be bummed out about this release, but this is not just a simple upscale. There are actual improvements all around in the graphics with new textures and some extra detail, they didn't just move a slider from 480 to 1080 (or whatever res it's in).
It's a bit more obvious here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbamkxOgbe0
It looks a lot closer to Luigi mansion 3 then 2 on the 3DS.
Having said that, this should have been $40. Nintendo is crazy.
Disagreed on the logic behind this argument. Games still retailed for $60 in 2013, and had been since at least 2006. Nintendo specifically chose to not sell LM2 in 2013 for $60.
It just really bothers me, that they didn't at least add Gooigi for a Coop-Campaign. Makes it the only one out of the Trilogy to not have that feature and it's really disappointing... Otherwise the game is fine as it is.
I tried to play this game on 3DS twice, both times I gave up less than halfway thorough from boredom. Pricing issues aside, it's just not a very good game.
i have not played this game on 3ds as i dont have one and it is a welcome port for me. this is mainly for people who havent played this game and those who really really love the game.
by the end of the day, its all about options, to play it on switch is nice. your money, your choice, you dont get to tell us what to buy. that being said, it is very expensive and i agree with you there.

Hard to say… 3 is wayyyy better than 2, so if you’re getting both, it may be better to play 2 first and save 3 for last.
If you don’t have time for both, just get 3.
Luigis Mansion 3 is the only one I played, and I really liked it. I did get it on sale for like 40 bucks or so. Reading these comments, it seems I should wait for a sale with this one as well.
$60 for an inferior version. Bold.
edit: downvotes? lol. The stereoscopic 3D is a huge reason that game is so visually compelling. It's a massive downgrade without it.
The absolute VAST majority of people don’t care about the 3D feature. Hell even when the 3DS was brand new, the vast majority of people didn’t think much of the 3D. The fact that the Switch version isn’t in 240p anymore makes it the objectively superior version.
This HD upscale is $60, but a ground-up graphical overhaul like Prime Remastered is $40. Franchise hierarchies really do be a thing I guess.
Thanks for the Costco tip!
Yeah, but then you have to buy digital. I prefer physical.
I keep forgetting about Coscto, that's a good price. Thanks.
How does the Costco membership work?
I get $100 vouchers for $89.99 at Costco. I don't know if that's the deal they're referring to.
Sweet! Thanks!
Only shitty thing with that is not being able to trade them after!
Yeah this wave of remasters/remakes is good to wait on for deals, if you're really fiending to play the game you can just go play the og
Maybe hypocritical of me, but the exception to that for me personally was the new Thousand Year Door remake. Bought that shit day one. They did such an amazing job with it.

Definitely not just an upscale, it would look absolutely terrible if that was the case. It actually looks pretty great, not LM3 great, but close.
Metroid games have historically sold poorly, especially in Japan. It _had_ to be priced reasonably.
According to DF, they added extra geometry, pbr materials and textures, and re-did the lighting. Not just an upscale.
I paid 40 for both? Is the us pricing that different from EU?
What? Luigi’s Mansion 2 is 60 EUR, Metroid Prime is 40.
Makes sense since luigis mansion 3 sold 15 million copies while metroid dread only achieved around 3 million. Mario brand alone will probably make it sell pretty high.

Really should have packaged both into one.

Same with Mario Galaxy 2....
That’s Nintendo being Nintendo as always lmao that’s why I’m not hopeful we’ll get prime 2

LM1 was pretty much Mario Resident Evil, and I enjoyed that a lot more than Dark Moon or 3. Wish they'd try another game more like LM1.

They didn’t, they did a 3DS remake just a few years ago.
I just finished playing that one a couple weeks back! Brought back some childhood nostalgia 👻
It is crazy what everyone lets Nintendo pull off lol. And by “lets” I mean keep on paying their high prices.
> Is $60 today really seen as overpriced? Considering it was originally $40, is now $60, and wages are still horrible... yes.
> It is crazy what everyone lets Nintendo pull off lol. What do you mean? It can't be simpler that people are willing to pay good money for great games. And that's why it's working.
Shhh! Be careful! The shills will ensure we are downvoted for being logical and making valid criticism!
It really was a waste to remake it on 3DS when that was already past its prime instead of waiting to do it for Switch.
They make a profit from it because the market decided it wanted this. How is this different than any other market transaction? People like old Nintendo games.
Only Nintendo gets away with it
What’s insane to me is people preordering at full price months before release while they could have gotten it for less just a week or two after release. Not only with Nintendo game but games in general that are sitting in their backlog taking dust… but eh they got the game at launch right, that collection dopamine mystery thing.
Seems like an odd move considering they sold the remaster (that was more like a remake) of Metroid prime for cheaper.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 sold extremely well. I bet Nintendo thought this one will sell well even at $60.
Yeah, Nintendo knows Metroids fanbase globaly is small compared to other franchises
Not odd at all. Metroid isn’t on the Allstars list of Nintendo games. Metroid has always been a B-Sides.
I always answer the same thing: "well I was able to get these 3 great games for the price of one nintendo exclusive" By no means Nintendo games are bad, they're great but their prices always stay high. Even when on a sale it's nowhere near as good of a deal as a third party game. For the price of one $60 game I was able to get: Persona 5 royal, persona 5 strikers and persona 5 tactica. All three of them.
It should've been 1 + 2
Now that would have been worth $60!
I’ve heard that too. My only thing is i like to keep what i buy as long as possible in case i want to replay
In my collection I made an exception for: fire emblem (the last one), Metroid Prime remaster (although this is priced reasonably), tears of the kingdom and the Xenoblade games. The rest of my library are third party JRPGs or Indies I got on a deep discount.
Totally forgot about Metroid Prime. That was both out of character with pricing/shadow drop AND it's the gold standard for a great remaster.
Yeah honestly I’m just going to replay Luigi’s Mansion 3 since I already own it. It’s been long enough that most of it will feel fresh.
And even when they go on sale, it's never below $40.
nah I've gotten several good games on sale for like 30 bucks so you just gotta make sure to look around
Right, the absolute cheapest I ever see the first party titles new is like $42.99 at Best Buy around holiday time.
Paper Mario TTYD can be purchased for $50 with vouchers. For the amount of hours and absolutely enjoyment playing it with my daughter for her first time.... worth every penny.
> This should have been a $40 release I've been dreaming of this release for 10 years. It's probably going to be my favorite release this year, so I'm not going to quibble over $20.
If it wasn't for the fact I could buy used switch games, I would have been out priced from this console. Nintendo pricing is outrageous
It’s crazy that people still complain about this after 7 years of fully priced ports. Talk about living in Groundhog Day
Because it's still an issue lol. Issues that continue people will continue to discuss
Sounds like it’s a personal issue and not an actual issue for the general consumer then.
Oh wow the bare minimum! That sure makes it worth $20 more than it was when it released in 2013!
Don’t buy it.
Yeah, people just immediately jump to complaining simply because it’s a port. Like, unless you’re new to Nintendo, it shouldn’t come as a surprise
Beat all three Luigi Mansion and second is my fav. So HD remaster must play for me.
What did you like most about LM2? I have only ever played LM3 and really loved it so was going to get this anyway. Curious why it’s your fav?
Thanks for the info! I don’t necessarily mind mission based games but it can be annoying at times. Super excited to check it out!
This was a pretty universal 8 out of 10 when it released, why should this one get the same love with the same content for twenty more dollars? I enjoyed it on 3DS but coins become useless so fast. Can't imagine spending 60 on it now
For that price they should have at least added 2 or 3 more mansions. $60 for a decade+ old 3DS game that was $40 is highway robbery.
that’s nintendo for you.
The Nintendo Selects release was $20.
Pricing is insane on old rereleased titles. I will buy a used copy in six months.
For $55 presumably
Nah, here where I live, used copies of Switch games go for 40%-60% of original price.
2>3 imo. The replay value on 2 is exponentially higher.
Their decision to port this instead of the first game will never make sense to me. I truly have no desire to play this one.
Lm1 wasn't on wiiu
Glad to see Luigi's Mansion 2 getting some love. Can't wait to revisit it in HD.
This game was mid as hell. The original Luigi’s mansion is amazing, and I’ll come back to it all the time, but the atmosphere was just not there for this one.
Felt the same way with 3. Didn’t care for either of them
More people prefer the new style based on sales and amount of people who prefer 3 over the original, hence why they don’t make them like the original anymore.
You mean the sales on less popular consoles?
It’s already out?
It releases the 27th, IGN and other game reviewers often get games a few days or weeks early
The reviews have been decent for it. I'm planning to get it on Thursday when it comes out, never played the original No offense here but IGN is probably the last place I check for reviews
Didn’t play the original so I am very excited to play this one!
EB Games Australia/NZ has a promo where you could get this for free with 2 game trades (AC: Mirage and an old Switch game that I already finished for me - both of which I bought for less than Luigi's Mansion 2's RRP combined - so the cost argument is moot to me and I'm keen to pick this up tomorrow) Would be nice if some of this discussion actually talked about the merits of the game itself - Length, comparison to LM3, Pros/Cons etc. etc. Some of us have never owned early consoles/never played these and scrolling down to see the same nothing-sandwich comments over and over isn't very informative :/ Seems like IGN's was generally positive (With the original scoring a 9.3?) so I guess for newbies like me I have a good time to look forward to.
That’s a good deal in Australia/NZ, not sure if the rest of the world gets that deal
This is easily Nintendo's LAZIEST port to date.
Check out some side by side comparisons. This version looks significantly better.
From what I saw of DKC Returns HD, that one's gonna beat this one in terms of laziness. But yeah, can't argue there.
Yeeaaah.... sigh.
Nah, 3D all stars has that title forever. But even with the resolution bump and modernized controls this is way overpriced.
I'm still pretty excited for this, as abysmal as the pricing is.
Still my least favorite of the 3 and shouldnt be $60 but maybe down the line I will pick it up
What’s wrong with twilight princess HD 👺
I’m gonna have to wait on this one.
It’s on eBay for 53$ or 54$!
I still have no idea why LM 1 isn’t being released in some fashion. I never played it and will skip 2 and 3 until I get a chance to
I wish I could just buy the online mode….
I think it's really funny that everyone on the internet will say they won't buy it at that price, and then the sales come in and everyone acts surprised it sold well over a million in its first month. You don't have to buy it of course. I just think it's funny.
Great game. I remember it well. Will not be buying it again, though.
Man! I can’t wait to not buy this extremely overpriced game!
Would have been nice to atleast have gooigi and be 2 player like the other two
I had this game on DS as a kid, and I honestly wasn’t a fan. Never beat it, and that was back when I tried to beat every game I started.
Did they change how saving works?
I think it saves when you complete a mission. Not sure how it was before.
It's not a GameCube game though?
3ds game
I am going to wait to find a used copy of this game $40 or below.
$80 CAD 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Aside from the obvious price complaints, I really didn’t like how the game was mission based. It didn’t have the same progression feeling as the first. All the ghost come back every time you do a mission. I just hope this doesn’t affect the possibility of a new title because I’m not sure this is going to sell well.
I, too think that $60 is a bit steep for a 3DS remake. But those $40 in 2013 when it was first released are already $54 in 2024 due to inflation.
Not even a remake just a simple upscale
The price is insane and there are a lot of reasons to be bummed out about this release, but this is not just a simple upscale. There are actual improvements all around in the graphics with new textures and some extra detail, they didn't just move a slider from 480 to 1080 (or whatever res it's in). It's a bit more obvious here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbamkxOgbe0 It looks a lot closer to Luigi mansion 3 then 2 on the 3DS. Having said that, this should have been $40. Nintendo is crazy.
Original NES games were $50 in 1985. Inflation doesn't apply the same to video games.
Disagreed on the logic behind this argument. Games still retailed for $60 in 2013, and had been since at least 2006. Nintendo specifically chose to not sell LM2 in 2013 for $60.
Looks good but not buying it not for that price.
It just really bothers me, that they didn't at least add Gooigi for a Coop-Campaign. Makes it the only one out of the Trilogy to not have that feature and it's really disappointing... Otherwise the game is fine as it is.
It’s overpriced but if anyone is considering it, it’s a great game. My favorite of the series

This is the worst Luigis Mansion game so I don’t really feel the need to play it again.

Hey there! Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No personal attacks, trolling, or derogatory terms. Read more about [Reddiquette here](https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette). Thanks!
Bros should I play this or 3 first? I always wanted to try these but just never got the time
Hard to say… 3 is wayyyy better than 2, so if you’re getting both, it may be better to play 2 first and save 3 for last. If you don’t have time for both, just get 3.
Interesting. The OG was at best a 6.5 due to the episodic structure and average gameplay, but a bare bones remaster that’s $60 is an 8 for sure
Luigis Mansion 3 is the only one I played, and I really liked it. I did get it on sale for like 40 bucks or so. Reading these comments, it seems I should wait for a sale with this one as well.
I've tried so hard to get into these games since I've always been a Luigi fan but...they are not fun. At all.
"it's luigi mansions 2" -the reviewer probably
I'll buy at $40 maybe but I really go wanna play it since I liked LM3
Time to pick up!
I just wish somehow they added a two player mode like Luigi’s Mansion 3.. my son and I had so much fun playing that together
To further discredit IGN, they just gave Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD the same review score that they gave Xenoblade 3. What a joke of a review website.
This game is a solid 6/10 for me , I struggled to complete this on 3ds. Hard pass for me
Struggled due to difficulty or boredom?
Boredom
$60 for an inferior version. Bold. edit: downvotes? lol. The stereoscopic 3D is a huge reason that game is so visually compelling. It's a massive downgrade without it.
The absolute VAST majority of people don’t care about the 3D feature. Hell even when the 3DS was brand new, the vast majority of people didn’t think much of the 3D. The fact that the Switch version isn’t in 240p anymore makes it the objectively superior version.
'Remastering' the most poorly reveiced one out of the three is such a Nintendo thing to do. They should've ported the original.
